Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This combo appears worth a look. This has a rare Carson Car Craft hardtop.
“I don’t want to sell the” 45″ alone, just because. Both run , the 48 has a homemade plow set up. and I would add is crazy clean. Garaged and driven for 35 years, then I bought it. The “45” is a VEC, vin. 10365, good bones. And also comes with a great story ! Open to calls , but I have a limit on how much jeep talk I can do.”

Runs, but needs brakes.
“Hard to find, desirable early Willys with shifter on steering column. This was the first civilian model jeep made after WW2. Serial number 27040. Stored indoors and owned by the same person for the past 40 years. Starts and runs great. Brakes not currently working. Solid, nearly complete vehicle would be great for restoration or would be perfect to use around farm with little work needed.”

Listed as a 1948, it looks more like a 1946. I can’t tell for sure, but the windshield may have square bow holder bolts.

UPDATE ***: Jurgen spotted this one. The ad for this jeep has resurfaced, this time in Ireland. Note the text claims the body panels has their “rivets” removed using a special tool. UPDATE: This jeep was on eBay a couple days ago. The seller listed it in College Station, Texas. The same jeep just popped up on a West Virginia Craigslist for only $4000. The text in the ad is similar to the text shown down below.

“1946 Willys VEC (Very Early Civilian) CJ-2A Jeep – Museum Quality Restoration
Offered is a 1946 CJ-2A that has undergone a frame-off, nut and bolt, rotisserie restoration. This is a very early civilian version, identified by square windshield plates, column shift, tool indents, ‘F’ script bolts in drive train, frame tag on the outside of the driver front gusset and three data plates on the dash.
I acquired this Willys Jeep CJ-2A from a Kingman, Kansas flying service in 2008 where it was being used as an airport tug. Everything was original, uncut, matching numbers and well preserved in several coats of orange paint. The frame tag, dash data plate and the Willys body tag are each numbered 17968 and correctly located. The motor number is CJ-2A 18464. “For Sale is a 1946 Willys Cj2A with 52K original miles. It has the original 134 Cubic Inch inline 4cylinder engine, T90A 3 Speed transmission with rare column shift, Spicer 18 transfer case and Dana axles. It is 4X4 with high and low gear that work as intended. The carburetor was just rebuilt and it runs great with good clutch and brakes, the parking brake works as well. The water pump, the fuel tank and the fuel pump were just replaced. All lighting, gauges, turn signals and horn work as they should. This vehicle also has the rare heater box under the dash. This vehicle was a barn find and has just been recently repainted with olive drab green paint as you can see in the pics. It has less than expected rust for a vehicle of its age and has a very solid frame. The seats were also redone. The Jeep was recently displayed in a local car show and received numerous compliments. It is fun to drive or show. I will entertain any REASONABLE offer.”

Seller lists this as a VEC, but without tool indents or a column shift, I wonder if that is the case. Looks like it could make a good restoration though.

It has very good oil pressure although it burns some oil. It has a new water pump & rad. hoses, new fuel pump, 6V battery, new brake wheel cyl and rebuilt master cyl, new steering bell crank shaft and brgs. The lights work. This Jeep was originally (as you see it) green in color with 15 inch cream wheels with blue pin stripes. (02/24/2016) Looks to be a mix of VEC and non VEC parts. The windshield and tranny are incorrect at the very least. Seems to have the correct rear hubs.
“The CJ-2A was the very first model of the civilian Jeeps. 1945 was the first year of production and this is one of those bearing serial number 11086. It is in need of restoration but the vehicle is all there, engine, transmission, all running gear, very good shape for age. The first of the are tagged as “Very Early Civilian” or VEC, which this is one of. Original color was green which is one of the two colors available in 1945. Call with questions.”
