These two photos show the jeep (likely a Ford GPW) of Defense Field Marshal Harold Alexander, the first Earl Alexander of Tunis (technically, Alexander of Tunis, Harold Rupert Leofric George Alexander, Earl, 1891-1969). The second photo is dated June 27, 1952. The jeep’s tires look much more aggressive than the standard NDTs. The windshield looks more like a 2A than an MB/GPW. Those doors look awfully thick. I wonder how heavy they were.

According to the post, captions, these are “Part of a series that Williams shot on assignment documenting the visit to Korea of British Minister of Defence Field Marshal Harold Alexander, the first Earl Alexander of Tunis. Here, Earl Alexander salutes as he leaves a Common Wealth Division bunker in his jeep.”

This photo from the University of Wisconsin Digital Achrives was taken around 1954 and shows a jeep atop the Lake Mendota Ice, surrounded by fisherman.

Lake Mendota borders the northern side of downtown Madison, Wisconsin. In the early 1990s I lived in Madison for a couple years, but rarely spent much time near Lake Mendota.

This first photo is a closeup from the photo below it. The jeep appears to be a pretty stock MB.

This photo dated July 11, 1941, shows actress Patricia Morrison sitting in a Ford GP, presumably for a photo shoot. In 1942, she joined the USO tour, entertaining troops in Great Britain. I suspect the men around her are fellow actors, but I can’t say for sure.

Also, Thanks to Lester (who found a front view of this same jeep in the Concord Armor At War series # 7058 titled The US Army Jeep at War by Steven Zaloga on page 70) we also now know that the inscription reads: To the Commander of the First Ukrainian Army Group from Soldiers of the American Armies of the 12th Army Group ….  Lester believes the same thing is painted in Russian on the hood. The jeep also has the insignia of the major formations of Bradleys command on the cowling between the hood and windshield. Finally, apparently the picture in the book clearly shows the two extra holes in the front bumper making it a GPW model.

Here’s another press photo that captures the gift of a jeep by General Omar Bradley to Marshal Ivan Konev of the Russian Army. Six days later, Marshal Konev responded in kind with the gift of a horse to General Bradley, the inspection of which was captured in the latter half of this video.

Marshal Koniev (foreground, second from left) receives a United States Army Jeep as a gift from General Omar Bradley (foreground, left). General Bradley, commander of the United States 12th Army Group, had crossed over into Russian lines to meet Marshal Koniev, commander of the Russian 1st Ukrainian Army Group’s headquarters which was then located southeast of Torgau. All others are unidentified.

This photo is part of a series of photos shared by the families of famous Russian/Soviet families. There are other photos on this page that captured the first documented meeting of Russians and Americans on April 25,1945, near the German town of Torgau on the Elbe river.

This photo can be found within the Los Angeles Public Library Photo Collection. It depicts a CJ-3A owned by the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Posse. There are other jeep-oriented photos as well held by the library.

These images were located at the Hawaii State Archives, Digital Collections. The front bumper on this jeep was pretty beat up! All photos are from the Palmyra Atoll and include Jean Hobbs and Leslie Fullard. The site was very slow when I was exploring it, so searching is a little tedious.

According to the photos, the driver is Sgt. Ruby Chase. She was possibly recruiting young Hispanic women in June of 1944 to help sell bonds.

This 1943 photo from the Denver Public Library’s digital collection shows that these elementary school children were busy. They helped purchase 4 jeeps! There are several other photos from the same event.

The UW sits on the shore of Lake Mendota, so this photo might not have been taken too far from the University. I never got into ice-fishing when I lived in Madison, but lots of others enjoyed it.

No Wisconsin post would be complete without a badger. Here’s an extra-large badger towed by a jeep in 1987.

A Jeep pulls a large float in the shape of Bucky Badger around the Capitol Square in the 1987 Homecoming Parade. This material may by protected by copyright law (e.g., Title 17, US Code).

Walter Hill, the director of the Horry County Museum, forwarded these pics from the Museum’s archives. Great images!

“Mr. Prather owned a service station in Myrtle Beach as well.  He lived in a community on the Waccamaw River/Inter-coastal Waterway called Socastee, not far from Myrtle Beach.  Anyone familiar with the area may be familiar with the Socastee Turn Bridge that allowed road traffic across the Inter-coastal Waterway and river traffic down the Inter-coastal Waterway.

Most of the pictures in this collection appear to have been taken near the end of WWII (some images in the collection show GI’s boarding the bus at the Draft office in Conway) up to the early fifties, judging by the automobiles in the pics.  One picture shows a license tag on the jeep and I want to say it says 1952.  Maybe better eyes can tell if I am correct or not.”

A monkey named “Lady” who was the mascot of the 4026th Army Signal Photographic Battalion, sits in a jeep, somewhere in the Philppines. Donor: John Paxton.

2) Secretary Pace Talks with People in a Jeep

This photo was taken circa 1952. There isn’t a description.  It is one of the nicer Military Police Jeeps I’ve seen.  The door is particularly unusual.
