“I have a 1948 CJ2A with rear PTO. It’s all restored to original. The restoration was done roughly 15 years ago but looks like it was done less than that. This was all done recently as it sat for so long: New fuel pump, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, condenser, oil lines, fuel pump to carb line, carb was completely rebuilt, new master cylinder, bell and crank for the steering. I’m sure I’m missing a few things. Have new wheel cylinders but haven’t installed them. Comes with tire chains, a bucket of carbs (3-4) a crate of other parts and a hard cab that needs to be finished. Runs and drives. $18,500. Open to trades”

“1948 Willys Jeep CJ 2A “Lefty”.  44,890 miles. Ground up/body off restoration (though engine is f-head) completed in 2003 at 42,380 miles*, has been garaged since.

Upgrades include: 12v electrical system; 11 inch (Ford) brakes; overdrive unit; 5 new Firestone NDCC tires; reupholstered front and rear seats; roll bar; electric wiper motor; seatbelts; overhauled F-head 134ci “Hurricane” engine. Has1947/1948 CA plates. Original cover bows and Kaiser Jeep universal service manual included.

*Restoration included:  new radiator, front axle overhaul, all springs, all shocks, transmission bearings and blocker rings, drive shaft U joints, new gas tank, new gauges, carburetor, new clutch, all front end steering components, new drive train seals, steering box overhaul, new bearings and shims at steering knuckle, minor floorboard/tool box pinhole rust repair with fiberglass, paint job.”

(10/19/2023) I have called the seller of this CJ-2A a friend for over a decade. His 1948 CJ-2A Lefty includes numerous extras. Also included is a unique collection of literature, some of which I’ve never seen elsewhere.  The seller was instrumental in provided a great deal of unique, early civilian documents.

This collection is in Europe, so for a European collector it is likely a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get all this at cost far below what it would take to ship (if you could find the equipment) from the US.

“The Jeep CJ models are a series of open bodied off-road vehicles built and sold by several successive incarnations from 1945 to 1986. In fact, the 1945 model was the world’s first mass produced 4 wheel drive vehicle for civilian use. As a result the CJ stands for Civilian Jeep.

In 1946 it was equipped with the L34 134ci Flathead 4 cylinder which was nicknamed the “Go Devil” that is mated to a column shifted Borg Warner T90 3 speed manual transmission. This sweet Jeep is also equipped with 3 very rare options making it extremely desirable which are the front tow bar, the rear draw bar (hitch) and the rear bumper mounted Power Take-Off (PTO) which was designed to drive equipment mounted at the rear of the vehicle through a shaft drive assembly. It is also used to drive trailered equipment, operate belt driven machines and shaft driven winches.

“I’ve owned this 1948 Willys CJ2a since 2009 and have thoroughly enjoyed driving and working on it, but am in a different stage of life and now it’s time to let someone else have some adventures with it.

Highlights:
• Frame-off restoration in 2010. Sandblasted and coated the frame, replaced leaf springs (NOS) and shackles, shocks, overdrive, electrical harness, seat cushions and canvas covers. Engine and transmission were solid when I bought it. Total mileage unknown, I’ve put about 10k on it.
• Body is original steel tub as far as I know. It has a few dings and small ares of corrosion. Original Luzon red re-painted in 2010.
• 134 ci. flathead “Go-Devil” engine with Solex carburetor and electric fuel pump, 3 speed T-90 manual (6 forward speeds with overdrive split), 4WD of course :).
• I have a soft top and all the bows for it. I’ve been told it is an older aftermarket “Sunbrella” top but I’m not 100% sure. It keeps wind and shade off you, but is a little tired and is not waterproof.
• I’ll also include a timing light, dwell meter, mechanical fuel pump, and some other spare parts and accessories.

My goal for this Jeep was never for it to be a show vehicle, just something that looked nice and drove like the original. It runs and drives well; it’s a hoot around town and even more fun up in the mountains”

“1946 CJ-2A VEC (Very Early Civilian). This Jeep is an early production of the CJ-2A with a column shift transmission. I am the 3rd owner and have documentation from the original family including pictures and the history. It was purchased by a family friend who had it restored. The Jeep includes many accessories including an extended bed and an original style half cab top. I am currently in the process of installing a new radiator, new transmission synchronizers and some steering components. Starts and drives perfectly, with smooth shifting gears and working 4 wheel drive. Bestop top with doors. Converted to 12V. High torque mini starter with key start and electronic ignition. Good Cooper Discoverer tires, turn signals, seat belts, solid frame, original body, and floor panels with no rust or bondo. Sidesteps, tow bar and floor mats. (09/11/2023) I don’t recognize the hardtop, but it looks like a nice one. It seems a conglomeration of a Kelly (line under door window and the door latches) + a Meyer (door window shape and possible roof shape) + a Koenig (door shape). I suspect it is custom, but if Meyer *had* made a flat fender top, I’d think it would look something like this.
