“For sale is a original and rare 1959 FC170 with the 9 foot bed option. Original paint, never been repainted. Two previous owners, complete and fully documented ownership history, including the original dealership bill of sale. Everything works. Everything on the Jeep is original, the interior is complete, seat upholstery is original, the running gear is refurbished and works as it should, including the engine, the 3 speed manual, the transfer-case, 4 wheel drive, axles, diffs, all in good running condition. Rebuild gas tank and rebuild the sending unit. This Jeep drives real nice, and everything works, the heater, all the electrical, the turn signals, lights. Complete with original headliner, original door panels, original sun visors, and a few rare items like a vinyl cigarette box holder attached to the visor. The stencil “Jeep” and “4 Wheel Drive” insignias on the tailgate are original. The tires are original old stock, most likely the second set, dating early 60’s. A true survivor, this Jeep spent 90% of her life in one family, who owned a RV business in a small town in Washington State. The Jeep was mostly used to plow occasional snow on the RV lot, otherwise the Jeep parked in the dry. The body is completely stock and original, no accidents, no rust with the exception of pitting and surface rust on rear fender flares and surface rust on the bed floor. Because it is so original I never had plans to repaint or frame-off restore this Jeep, I always loved the original condition it is in. I just made everything work properly, with the goal to avoid any modern upgrades or parts replacements that are not era correct. This Jeep drives real nice, it breaks properly, shifts nicely and the engine sounds very healthy. This FC170 is a true survivor. Your chance to own a piece of Jeep history. “This M38 has quite a storied past. It is a great Jeep in excellent restorable condition. Other than two small spots behind the passenger seat, it’s rust free. Even the tool box is sound. The Jeep runs. It has a period correct Braden electric winch. The Jeep was delivered March/52, I don’t don’t know when the winch showed up, but it’s been there a while. It looks like there is rust on the body, but it runs and has a plow. Either the alternator needs replacing or it has a wiring problem.

“Virtual frame up restoration of a 1954 Military M170 Frontline Ambulance to great running condition. I wished I had unbolted the body from the frame and replaced the little body pads because that is about the only thing not restored or replaced on this jeep. Engine rebuilt with less than 20 hours running time on it. Rebuilt radiator, NOS carburetor, NOS fuel pump, complete new Vintage wiring harness, NOS lights, power switch, steering linkage, new brake shoes, emergency break system, rebuilt transmission and transfer case, hubs repacked/rebuilt, New military tires, new exhaust, exhaust manifold, NOS cross over tube, water proof plug wires, accelerator peddle and linkages, cables, speedometer cable, NOS fuel tank, NOS passenger seat, etc., etc., etc. I have over $12,000 of parts and shop labor invested in this restoration!
24 Volt power system with 12-volt starter. This makes it crank fast and is therefore easy to start. Very little rust. Pictures show the major places on the body where there is any pitted rust other than the bed. Bed had some pitted rust. I scraped, primed and painted that area, covering it with plywood for protection when hauling rocks, etc., (it is a working jeep).
Note the importance of this rare jeep model. The M170 Frontline Ambulance with the twenty inch stretched body length is a very rare Willys model. Some reports show less than 2500 ever made, (and possibly only 300 running today), as compared to the much more common M38A1. It was the precursor to the Civilian CJ6 which Ronald Reagan drove on his ranch. While most parts are interchangeable with the M38A1, several are unique to the ambulance.
I restored this Jeep with the help of the local Lonestar Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA). Hopefully there is a chapter in your area. We used ours as a fun hobby and kid’s car at the ranch. For parade restoration, I would recommend configuring it into the 7 man troop carrier version (which was not an uncommon configuration while they were in service) rather than buy the required ambulance canvas top, stretchers and rails for it to be set up as an ambulance.”
