Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I hope someone can buy and properly restore Les’ Jeep (assuming the documentation confirms it was his jeep). For those that don’t know, Les Schwab bought a tire store in Prineville in 1952 that has become a 330+ store chain here in the west (company history). Not bad for a guy who became an orphan at the age of 15. I didn’t know him, but everything I’ve heard suggests he was a man of his word. According to one reader, he was an early champion of the Formula Desert Dogs. Les passed away in the summer of 2007.

1. 1961 FC-170 DRW 226, 3 spd, all original drive train, has radio and heater. $20,000
2. 1965 FC-170 Kaiser, very good original body and good bed floor, 283 V8 advance adapter, T-90/D-20. a nice project truck. $5,000
3. 1961 FC-150 wide track, it has a great body. no motor or trans. It has 70s Blazer 3.08 44F and 10 bolt 6 lug axles, installed. $2,000
4. 1957 FC-170 cab and chassis, 8 lug 44F and Dana 60 rear 4.10 gears, it comes with really good front fender flare rubber edge. $4,000.

It runs and drives and looks pretty stock. This might be a good price. It’s got a few dents in that rear quarter panel.

According to the seller, who has owned this jeep for 14 years, this runs and drives good. But, it needs new brake lines because the seller never connected them? That seems a little odd.

Has some original parts still installed, I have the original parts that have been replaced.. water pump 1 yr old, starter rebuilt 2 yrs ago. has mud tires with lots of tread left. I have original steering wheel, it has a best top frame no top. needs new brake lines, I have never connected brakes since I have owned. This dog will hunt 4000.00 obo. (03/25/2011) There are a few things that aren’t original, including the grille and bumper, however this could be a solid jeep none-the-less. This also has full floating rear hubs.

The year on the hood of this jeep appears to read 1941, but the ad is for a 1942 MB. Probably an oversight, but just saying …
“you will not find a better conditioned willys army jeep than this… all original matching numbers 1942 willys jeep.. this vehicle has never been registered or even driven on a road..it has been professionally restored. its has 72 original miles ….yes just 72 as it just sits around in a climate controlled aircraft hangar and is occassionaly driven on the airfield.. it is in mint condition with no dirt of any kind on it.”

“1950 Willys CJ-3A civilian jeep 4×4. We used for hunting and lake vehicle. Original 4 cylinder engine – rebuilt in 1998 – yearly driven miles = 2-15. Starts right up – definately under-used. my uncle put in a heater, bought the canvas top/doors etc.. supposedly did axle work, clutch , driveshaft replacements and misc other stuff when he rebuilt engine and put on new carb. 12 Volt system now. Rust in several areas – but been here in Dry New Mexico for quite a while. Headlights not working ( switch?) but tail lights are fine – no turn signals.
Extra parts included – whatever i can find anyway.”
