Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1942 GPW Ford Jeep.Original data plates and hood number. Restored a few years ago. Thus jeep was used in several movies filmed in Petaluma , Ca. It has a rebuilt carb., rebuilt transmission (I was told this when I purchased it), new tires on 5 original split rim combat wheels, new paint and a new canvas top.It has a Willys motor (which was in it when I got it) and a 12 volt system. It was restored with all the original parts., i.r everything was taken off, sandblasted, cleaned and repaired (as needed) and put back on. The front seat cushions are not new- there were on it when I got it. It had a new wiring system an all lights and horn work perfectly.The beauty of this jeep is the original data plates – often missing and the original hood number – often sandblasted off or painted over.”

This has a CJ-2A engine. It also has an CJ-3A windshield. There is some rust in the jockey box floor. There are no data plates, so the title number matches nothing.

“1951 Willys Overland Model 126 pickup truck from Tennessee, converted to a 4.3 liter engine, a newly rebuilt carburetor with electric choke. Runs beautifully with a new dual exhaust. Aftermarket gauge cluster under the dash. All the factory gauges are present but not hooked up. Recovered custom tan seat cover, new black carpeting, power steering, drum brakes. Transmission is a 3 speed manual with 2 speed transfer case, original dome light with control switch,auxiliary electric cooling fan, new gas can and strap mounted in the holder on the passenger side, supplying the entire original vacuum wiper motor, cable linkage, pivots and arms. All lights work, headlights, high and low beams, turn signals, brake lights. All 4 tires are in ok shape. We installed some very stylish bed rails and a tongue & groove wooden bed floor. The frame is solid.

“This is a great piece of history that I have owned for 1976 till present day. It is not perfect as the pictures will show but much better than average for its age. It shows about 20000 miles and I believe that to be accurate it has had all the typical rust of an old CJ that I repaired in 1981 and some of it is starting to show in places . It has a great CJ 3A windshield on it and I also have a CJ 2A windshield frame that needs much repair that you can have with it . I have converted it to a 12 volt system for better starting other than that it is mostly original from front to back it has new brakes and rebuilt brake cylinders so the brakes are as good as good as any CJ2A . Their are some holes drilled in the dash for light switches otherwise the dash is as it should be. And the exhaust system is stock and has a fairly new muffler on it as well and the engine will start and run on the coldest of days sometimes when nothing else will start. I hate to let it go but the time has come for someone else to enjoy it.”

(06/21/2012) “45 Ford GPW world war two jeep. I’ve had this jeep over 20 years. It has Matching numbers, it was made in Texas around July 4th 1945 It’s allmost every part is origenal. It is non opd, no back fee’s title in hand. it has a Carb problem right now but I’ll be taking care of that soon. . I’m only seling becuase of my wife is sick and won’t be back to work anytime soon. E-mail for more pictures just ask.. Please don’t waste my time with a low ball offer, . This is a real good deal. it just needs a little more work to be complete, I mean things like a top,The wiper motor’s need to be taken apart and cleaned or rebuilt The speedo broke about 20 miles ago.This jeep I know only has a little over 30,000 original miles on it. “My pride and Joy is up for sale or Trade. Full frame off restoration. I have use/ kept as many of the original willys parts that I could. Has new NDT tires, interstate batteries(original 24v system). Tail lights are updated to led. Starts first time every time, purrs like a kitten. I probably have put 200 miles on it since completion. Steering is tight and doesn’t wander at all new clutch, brakes. Engine is strong for factory 4 cylinder. Fun little drive. It isn’t perfect but is very reliable and an excellent hunting vehicle. Lock-rite lockers front and rear and excellent tires. It will crawl up everything”

“I have known this jeep since 1971. High school friend of mine drove it when we worked at Kroger’s (1971-1974), he drove it to High School. I rode in this Jeep many times when I was younger. His family owned it from the late 1950’s until my Dad bought it around 1998-2001. Body, motor and all major parts are original to this jeep. My friend’s dad bought it from the WV Dept of Highways Surplus sale in the late 1950’s-early 1960’s and used it on his farm. When he bought it, “Corry Naval Base” was stenciled on the cowl, this is how it was when the State of WV received it after the war. I believe this Naval Base is in Florida(Pensacola I believe). I have receipts of paint and body work alone, that total over $16,000…not counting other work, that was done to the jeep.”
This isn’t entirely stock, but looks solid.

“I have a WW2 1942 Ford GPW for sale. The overall condition is good but this is a restoration vehicle not a turn key. The engine and most other components were rebuilt last year and it was running until recently when the distributor failed. There is a new distributor include with the vehicle and all that remains is for the timing to be set. The vehicle comes with 2 combat rims, a brand new grill, original gauges, and several other restorable parts. There are small spots of rust but nothing that compromises the integrity of the vehicle.
This comes with lots of bling.

UPDATE: This popped up for sale last night for only $800! I knew it would go quickly, so I notified an Idaho reader about it late last night. He called this morning (first person to call) and had a deal worked out to pick it up tomorrow. The reader called at lunch to ask an additional question, only to learn the seller sold it out from underneath him to someone else. I hope the buyer knows what they got.
The serial number (verified by a photo that I didn’t download) was #10300.

It has some dings and dents, but appears in good shape. Someone mounted hood latches to the angle side of the fenders.

“Here is what i got….1957 willys cj-3b in restorable condition…barn find. there is two of them.
the one pictured is all there….needs to be restored, but is do able. i dont have a place to store it now so it has to go.
i have a 1960 cj-5 that is the partsdonor for this jeep, it has complete driveline and a front clip only but is a rolling chassis.
i do however have the Jeep Hy-Lo pump system, and the frame mount system for the plow….
i have to go back and get the cj-5 from the barn soon….the 57 is at my home. have lots of parts and need to go asap…….will listen to reasonable offers and trades.’
