“Selling my child hood dream…….. It is a 1957 Willys Jeep Utility Wagon. Been in my family for 35 years or more…. Been in the desert, all this time as you can tell by the little amount of visual rust, common place to a vehicle of this vintage. This is the strongest, and best 4 wheel drive vehicle I have driven. While the newer Fords and Chevy’s got stuck, I was driving around them in this bad boy – what a glory day that was for a young man at the time. I replaced the original flat 6 with a 1967 buick V6 225. It is the perfect match in size of motor for this jeep. Not so strong to rip the rear differential (which most V8’s will do), but more than enough power to get up any hill. Ask around and folks that know will confirm. The motor will start if you give it fuel and spark on a dime. The jeep has sat for 19 of the last 20 years. To make this run, it simply needs a new battery, fuel pump from Auto Zone ($40 or so), and a fuel tank. The original fuel tank finally rusted after 54 years that it needs to be replaced. I drove as my first car and it was reliable at the time. It is fun to work on, and easy to work on. Perfect for a young person learning.
This is a fixer upper, all vehicles 55 years old are……. Like I said, it will run with little effort. Believe it or not, a few years ago when my son and I worked on this, it was FAR easier to find parts today with the internet than it was in the 80’s when I was putting parts on it. I can provide a host of places to buy new or used parts. The great thing about it is that the parts are relatively cheap by comparison to buying todays parts – go figure. Simple design back then. A few items that can improve the vehicle: INTERIOR: doors and window will need a little grease and cleaning to make function properly, interior headliner is pulled out. can be replaced. seats are old, but can be relined. I have a spring set for the one that needs it I can throw in. needs carpet in front floor board. There are likely other small cosmetic items you will want to do depending on your desire for restoring. On the outside, we have kept paint on it so there is not a lot of rust. It can use new paint and the tires are getting older, but have plenty of tread and will work for a while. original chrome is there, but could be redone if you like. front bumper is there, could use repair on right side. Anyhow, I had an amazing amount of fun as you can tell by my book. Now the fun can be Yours if you want to have a fun collector type Jeep.”
