UPDATE: Peter rightly pointed out this is a Lefty. **SOLD** on eBay for $3156. A true ‘barn find’ It was parked for 44 years (1970-2014). Seller got it running and gauges worked.
Some great vintage signage on this jeep.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500
Thanks to Glenn for identifying this as a lefty. I missed the passenger mounted bow holders under the cammo paint.
Interesting paint job!
“1948 JEEP WILLYS 1500 may take trade plus cash”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3300
(07/02/2014) Runs and drives. It lacks brake lights.
“This is a very rare 48 Cj2a Willys Jeep. It is Call a lefty as the spare tire is mounted on the drivers side and the bow mounts are on passengers side, just opposite of the standard 2A They only made so many of this type jeep in a short time in 1948..The jeep is in great shape for its age it is the original color..The windshield is in super condition and all there, including the manual and vacumn wipers..It has been converted to 12 volt, it runs great and stops.. I used this to drive around on my farm but since sold it.. would not take much to get street legal..Has lock out hubs, needs a battery and muffler, seats are in good shape, no rear seat..Has the usual rust, jeep has not been molested..
This is a very solid rare old peace of history
Has a Ohio title”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6500.
It looks like this may have been a ‘lefty’.
“1948 Willis flat fender jeep. This jeep is week built with 1993 throttle body injected 4.3 Chevy v6 and 4 speed transmission. Runs great, just tuned up, has headers, electric fan, Wilwood brake, clutch, and gas pedals, along with wildwood master cylinder and hydraulic clutch cylinder, Flaming River tilt steering column, low back factory style seats in great shape with 4 point harnesses, New best top and doors (no rips) later model front axel out of CJ 5, new brakes, tilt out front windshield, no rust, new springs with graspable shackles, black bed liner on engine compartment and tub, red bedliner on body, well built jeep, 4 wheel drive works great, clear title, perfect for town or the ranch.”
Looks like a good price.
“Cj2A, runs real well, cab complete with doors, 6 ft plow, 608-628-84five nine, no texts.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3800.
I’d like a photo of the rear of this top. It sure looks unusual.
“1948 Willy’s for sale. Asking $3800 no trades. It has inline 4cylinder with 4×4. Needs a new battery and master cylinder.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6500
Runs and drives.
“1948 willys jeep. 4cyl 4spd 4×4. clean title, all original but an older restoration. Runs and drives.
dmv fees estitmated at $175 but could be lower. open to offers and partial trades. $6500 feel free to call or text.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $14,000.
Besides the crazy price, given the “left” top bow holders this is not a ’46, but rather appears to be a 1948 Lefty.
“Classic 1946 ‘Army Green’ Willys JEEP
This 4-wheel drive, 4 cylinder motor JEEP has all its original parts, excluding the rims and tires which are almost new, and runs GREAT!
Interior is in superb condition; Exterior has some minor cosmetic blemishes.
If there are specific details you’d like to know about or questions you might have, please do not hesitate to call and ask.
Willing to discuss options for delivery (after sale only) and/or meeting up, depending on distance and location.”
This is likely a 1948 given the left mounted bow holders.
“Old jeep, runs and drives, many new parts replaced, needs brake master and tires. I also have original wheels and tires to go with it. Would make a great farm or ranch hand or a great hunting vehicle or something to play around with. Does not have a title but you can get one.
$1500. Obo”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $10,750
(10/21/2013) Glenn spotted this nice looking ‘lefty’.
“Sold by licensed RI dealer. Beautiful frame off, body off, nut and bolt restoration, many many new parts. Jeep shows to be in very much like new condition. Every system and component has been restored. Minor flaws only. Transmission will need attention however. Borg Warner T-90 gets stuck in second gear. Good opportunity for someone. Originally a Southwestern United States Jeep.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500
(04/05/2013) Joe spotted this jeep.
“I have a 1948 jeep willys. its all original drive train axles, everything was running when parked but needs some tlc or a custom builder. it has a roll cage on it but it is only bolted in. asking 3500 obo just trying to get rid of it to someone that will actually fix it”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6000
The 1948 (Lefty) is listed as a 1949.
“1949 Willys Jeep for sale. It is a off frame rebuilds with rebuilt motor. It has been converted to 12 volt. Seats are restored, . Asking $6,000.00 or best offer, top is in great shape Questions please”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4000.
It’s a lefty. Besides a PTO, this appears to have a very practical parking brake solution. Isn’t that a DJ-5 brake?
“1948 Classic Willy’s Jeep…original 4 cylinder engine with a new carb…runs well…needs brakes and TLC…great restoration project. I just don’t have the time for the project. Stored indoors…previous owner modified the suspension, wheels and tires, added a roll-bar, rear seat and tailgate extension, and tow bar…With some brake and electrical work on the lights, she would be a great off-roader…or restore her to military glory as was my plan…”
UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was $1500.
“I had plans to fix this 1948 Willys Jeep CJ2A for use during hunting season, but I never could find the time to work on it. It’s been off the road for a while, but I was told the original four-cylinder flathead engine has little time on an overhaul. It cranks freely with no suspicious noises.
There’s nothing wrong with the Jeep that can’t be fixed by any competent shade-tree mechanic. It needs some basic wiring repair to hook up the new ignition switch, and the brake system has gone dry. The bearing inside the steering column is stiff; I have it soaking in PB Blaster. The Jeep already has been converted to 12 volts, with an alternator, and the gas tank is good. The towbar has a new 2″ coupler.
I do not have a windshield, and the seats obviously need new pans and cushions. There’s a healthy aftermarket for these flat-fender Jeeps, and parts are not difficult to obtain.”
This looks solid. It is listed as a ’46, but with the spare tire on the driver’s side, it may be a “lefty”. This also has the wrong grille for a ’46.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6999
(10/06/2013) This looks nice. I wonder if this was originally a lefty? If so it’s a ’48.
“For sale is a 1947 Willys CJ-2A. It was completely restored about 8 years ago. Complete frame up restoration including an engine rebuild. Nearly everything is original. Body had floors replaced and frame had some reinforcing. The whole jeep is painted in POR15 products–the body is painted in their 2 part epoxy. Electrical was converted to 12 volt. Has original glass fuel pump and oil filter. Head is actually stamped Ford from an earlier military jeep. Tires are in excellent shape. As with any vehicle so old, there are some little things that can always be done.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2400.
This runs and drives. It looks like a good price.
“Still has original flathead 4 cylinder motor recently rebuilt. Runs, drives& shifts good just needs body work”
UPDATE: Was $895. **SOLD**
Joe spotted this RUNNING Lefty. He needs someone to buy it so that it doesn’t end up at his house.
“All original, clear title and it runs!”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was priced at $1500.
“This is Willys CJ2A S/N 185318, a documented Lefty, as discussed in “Calling All Leftys” on The CJ2A Page. This is a PROJECT!! It needs EVERYTHING restored. Mostly complete vehicle, rusty body and frame. Frame has been repaired, repaired again, needs more repair now. Body has been off frame, repaired, welded in floors, panels and needs more repair now. Engine, drive train are stock, non running, looks complete, I haven’t tried. Has a rear PTO unit, but needs repair also. As per PO, this Jeep was running when put into storage about 5 years ago. I added stock KH 16″ rims with oversized 7;50X16 tires, took out bucket seats, added stock left seat frame. RH seat is not stock, maybe Crosley. The dash tag is very readable with CJ2A-185318. The frame tag is missing. The ACM Number looks like 17?579 and others in that neighborhood show the third digit might be a 5 or 6. Buyer will research further. This is very near the end of Lefty production as per Willys Service Bulletin 48-27 and less than 25 have been accounted for making this a very worthwhile project. Sold with a Bill of Sale only as Maine is a non title state..”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $900.
It’s rough.
“I have for sale 1948 willys for parts. No Title. The tub is good for parting out only, the drivers floor is rusted completely out. It would be good if you need specific pieces of sheet metal. The frame is rusted through and patched. This has a pinto four cylinder running motor, axles, springs, drive shafts, tailgate, rear hitch, four original rims, windshield, fenders, grill, hood transmission, transfer case and other parts. It also has some parts on it for a trencher attachment like the, pto, hand engager, large toothed drive gear, universal joints, drive shafts and rear attachment. This has no brakes. It would be good for a trail rig. The battery and gas can does not go with the jeep.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1000
This seller has other jeeps, too.
“No titles. Have sat for years. They are rough. Have several other Jeeps as well as a boat, Harley FXST, and a 1929 Model A pickup. Make an offer. It must go! Cash only”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2800
“I have a super clean 1948 CJ2A Jeep for sale. This is a “lefty” version. That means the spare tire unlike most all other Jeeps from this era is mounted on the drivers side. Willys produced less than 100,000 of these “lefty” models and are pretty hard to find. It has 5 new (never run) Firestone NDT tires with blasted, primed, painted rims, tailgate and spare windshield frame. Also, just installed a new EverStart MAX battery. The 4 wheel drive all works. The radiator is solid, NO leaks. All gauges work. It is 100% bone stock original. The underbody “hat channels” are rusty but does not affect the driveability. It also does have some other minor rusty spots as most of the old Jeeps do. It was running great until recently when the oil pump decided to quit. It will need a new oil pump ($150.00) and she’ll be back running. The brakes will also need reworking. I did install a new (model correct) fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel sender, filter and fuel lines. That is all in perfect working condition. This is a super solid Jeep that just needs some minor TLC to be rolling again. It has not been hacked on or butchered up. I’m in the process of moving and have no place for it. I am trying to get the title but no guarantees. I am in contact with the original owner, he’s trying to help me get the title.”
