This eight-page issue includes stories about Country Maid’s FC-150s ice cream trucks and Prade Ranches wagon. The Boyd’s FC was included as part of a story on the Boyd family’s travel to South America. Two different articles highlight DJ-3A dispatchers. There are two very different examples of FC-campers, which one looking quite a bit like Dan Horenberger’s old streamline camper (discussed in this Motor Trend article by Jim Allen). Also, don’t miss the last story which shows an FC with two sets of duallies on the rear.

This quad-fold 1982 San Juan Scenic Jeep Tour brochure shows two newer jeeps with rear seating like the FC-tour jeeps, along with one vintage chopped wagon.
June 1953 Willys Motors Booster News eBay
This June 1953 issue is Volume 2 No. 4. I’ve only documented a few of these, so I don’t think many of these “Booster News” newspapers were saved. This one is on eBay for $99. Anyone know if they have copies of the Booster News in the Toledo Public Library?

All new wiring and brakes.
Runs and drives great.
Clean Washington title in my name.”
1970 CJ-5 Gardiner, OR $6000
Blaine shared this CJ-5, noting the hardtop looked unusual, which the rear of it does. After some research, I felt it is a Koenig Jiffy Cab 520 for the CJ-5 (see an Aug 1957 brochure here). This is the first time I’d noticed that the Jiffy Cab 520 had an unusually wide rear door with slim sides (not room for side windows in the back).

“The jeep is pretty-much untouched and original (except for the paint). Last year before AMC bought Jeep. It has the factory 3.7l Dauntless V6 motor, three-speed transmission and factory PTO winch. Split bench seat.
The motor is strong with as-new oil pressure. A prior owner put a 3.8l intake on it so it can use the Delco electronic ignition. Dual exhaust, as new. Transmission good as are the brakes. I hate antique cooling systems, so a new radiator and heater core. Headlight replacements should be in today (3rd), LEDs with glass faces.
The paint job was for protection since it came to the coast, mediocre base coat, clear coat. The hard top was bought when the Jeep was new. Neither roof or the body show rust, it came from Talent, very dry country. It has a mis-matched tire, and needs little jobs for it to be the daily driver.
This is an old Jeep, old school. No power steering, just a big steering wheel. No power brakes or cruise control. Early Jeeps are strong and reliable, but have little in common with modern Jeeps.
I am willing to consider trades, even non-vehicle, if the trade seems right, or $6k. I have varied interests.”
1945 VEC CJ-2A Rainier, OR $15,000
UPDATE: Still Available.
(04/10/2023) John shared this early CJ-2A. It’s had a few updates, but the indents and column shift are still there. There has been some body work (such as the elimination of the spare tire carrier mounting holes), along with new paint. If the underside on this is solid, it may well be worth a look at this price. I don’t impinge it would take too much to bring this back to stock.

“Dj5 mail jeep. Has a title! Bought it to v8 swap it. But don’t have the time to do so. Motor ran off a boat tank recently and the jeep was driven around in a feild. It’s right hand drive. Automatic. Pretty neat little piece. There’s some bucket seats that come with it. Other than that what you see is what you get”
CJ-5 Fiberglass One-Piece Hood Centralia, WA $500
1946 CJ-2A Chehalis, WA No Price
This was listed at $4800, but that price has been crossed out. Perhaps the seller is taking offers? The front suspension setup is unusual. It appears a bump stop has been added to the rear of the springs, replacing the shackles. It also looks like some kind of block or wedge sits between the springs and the axle.

“Complete frame up restoration project that is very close to being finished. It came from California and is extremely solid. It was taken down to bare metal and there was not a spot of rust anywhere. A skim coat, block, primer, block seal, and painted gray. It’s a 46 CJ2A with CJ5 running gear that has overdrive so it will have no trouble running the freeway. Has a chevy 350. Lot’s of new parts. Part’s alone cost more than the asking price. I have the windshield frame and windshield for it. its painted black. I will not respond to is this still available. Located in napavine Washington. Cash only sale, no trades. First person here with cash takes it home. Change of plans…..I’ll part it out. Let me know what you need. It has a really nice suspension setup. I think I’ll keep the 350 SBC that’s in it for another project.”

If a Crosley, which the grille indicates it might be, I’m unsure the model. Usually, these have some type of hood-bump and different style fenders, but the hood on this is flat, as are the fenders.

“Selling my 1946 cj2a. Hate to sell it but I got another one which is as good as I ever hoped for this one to be. It was used as a plow jeep for many years before I bought it I’ll start with the good Runs and drives very well, engine sounds amazing. The body has many patches but the floors are solid. It has a previous registration and plates but no title. Depending on when it sells I might include a spare frame for extra. The half cab is solid and are hard to come by. It comes with a complete plow setup that I know for a fact works. Cons The frame needs a patch before I’d recommend even yard driving it. One of the rear left leaf spring mounts rotted through the frame, the last owner never told me that before driving 6 hours to buy it. The brake lines are all there, unsure if theyre even hooked up, but the brakes don’t work. It’s currently hooked up to an auxiliary gas tank in the bed but I will be including a plastic one. 2700 obo, negotiable in person only, no I’m not parting it out”
1952 CJ-3A Amboy, WA $6000

“Hello, I have a 1952 Willys CJ3A project for sale. I have had it for about 25 years now and don’t see myself finishing it anytime soon. So it’s time for it to move on. I have about $12k into it and it’s still in pieces. I bought the replacement panels and $4k in parts (see lists in photos). I also had engine completely gone through, machined, and professionally rebuilt ($3k) with hardened vavle seat so it is good for todays gas. It has a Dana 44 rear axle, original heater, professionally rebuilt front and rear driveshafts, and quite a few spare parts including a spare transmission and transfer case. I also have a full steel hard top (no side doors) and a half cab/doors. Have clean title too. I also attached a couple photos of when it was together. I would like to get $6k because there is $4k in parts on the lists alone, $3k in the engine, plus everything else. Open to offers/trades especially a for 55’-59’ Chevy/GMC truck driver/solid project. Goose neck livestock trailer w/lvg qrtrs.”
Fiberglass Body and Front Clip Missoula, MT $200

August 1959 Jeep News
This 8-page issue has lots of DJ-3As, Surreys, FCs and Wagons. Note the six-wheeled wagon on page six. The issue includes a photo of a CJ-6 being used as a tour jeep at Hell’s Half Acre near Casper, Wyoming (page 3 lower right).
Quickly Assembled Jeep Video
Bill shared this quick-assemble jeep video, though this doesn’t quite look as quick as others we’ve seen.
What’s more interesting is that one of the comments under the video shares how some US jeep dealers ran some contests challenging folks to assemble actual jeeps completely taken apart. This is the first I have heard about this type of contest. I wonder if it was ever documented in any news articles or magazines. Here is the full comment:
“My grandfather’s garage did this in the 1950’s. He owned the first Jeep dealership in Manhattan, because he was selling Willy’s before WWII, so automatically became a Jeep dealership after the War. [Willys] did a promotion where they set up this contest in different dealerships, to see how long to assemble an entire Jeep. But it was completely apart, not in sub assemblies like here. My grandfather won with a time under 4 hours, and they presented him with a solid gold Bulova watch. On the back was engraved his name, the date, and the time it took to put the Jeep together.”

-C3 transmission w/ B&M shifter
-T18 transfer case with warn overdrive
-Tires with less than 1000mi
-Rebuilt carb installed with engine rebuild (could use a tune now that engine is breaking in)
-Electric fan
-Vented hood
-Heater
-Electric wipers
-Soft top was installed about 2 years ago and less than 1000mi. Jeep parked under carport since it was installed
-has rear seat
-Front seats don’t match
Jeep runs and drives but could use a carb tune/ choke adjustment and general check over from sitting. Hasn’t been driven more than 100miles in the last year.
I have many spares including a performance intake manifold, spare engine that needs rebuilt, spare carb that needs cleaned and rebuilt, non matching spare wheel and tire, rear tire rack that’s not mounted.
I thought I would use this in the mountains while camping but have barely driven it in the 3+ years I’ve owned it. It’s time to move on and let someone else enjoy it. Asking $6000 OBO”
