Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “This a Script Ford GPW in need of a lot of work. Definitely worth saving, however I’m not the guy for this one. It was part of a bulk purchase I did in order to get the one I wanted. It is crusty, but has a motor trans and transfer and axles. Haven’t turned motor, and don’t have paperwork. It will take some research on your end, however It did come from an old timer that has had it forever, so its long off the books”

Original style Willy Overland Type 440 Go-Devil 134 CI engine. 12 volt system, pointless distributor, reproduction carter carburetor with period correct reproduction wiring. This 8-page issue of Jeep News starts with the announcement of the USPS’s purchase of 4,010 FJ-3s. Willys Motors announced on page 2 the launch of new brochures, including these red and blue jeep family brochures. Page 3 is all Surreys. Pages 4 & 5 are mostly dealer related. Don’t miss the Surrey like FC-170 on page 6 operated by the Hilton Inn of New Orleans. Page 7 shares more Surreys, FCs, and other jeeps. On the last page is a story about the First Company of Sheriff ‘Jeep’ Reserve Corps, out of El Paso County, Texas.

There were some jeeps at SEMA 2023 this year, but one of the most interesting was a rebuilt FC-170 by Roy. The excerpt starts at 2;27. (I can’t tell what the narrator is saying, because my sound isn’t working tonight for some reason).
This has a bumper and rear tire carrier update, but appear mostly stock.

“1956? Jeep Willys, inline 4 cylinder. The Jeep will not crank but does not appear to be locked up in any way. The wheels turn, the gears shift, and the steering wheel turns. The engine does not appear to be locked up but that cannot be verified. Most all of the parts of the vehicle appear to be there but many parts are loose. The ignition is not wired up. No keys. The battery is 1-2 years old. A 1-2 year old wiring harness will be provided but is not installed. The tires hold air but not sure for how long. This needs to be hauled away on a trailer. It is sold as-is. There is no title. A bill of sale will be written to the buyer in person at our local bank once the funds are deposited into our bank account. This is a restoration project vehicle. It does not run and will take a lot of work to get it road ready. The price is firm, no other offers will be responded to. No trades. I hope this finds a good home with someone who can restore it. It has good bones, it just needs a lot of work to get it running again”

Cons: Break lines have lost pressure so a leak needs to be found and fixed. I did have a company do it but lines leaked after about a week and after a few attempts to do it myself it got put on the back burner. Gas pedal is needed- currently just a shaft Needs battery, i have a spare one i might be able to part with”

This eight-page issue includes stories about Country Maid’s FC-150s ice cream trucks and Prade Ranches wagon. The Boyd’s FC was included as part of a story on the Boyd family’s travel to South America. Two different articles highlight DJ-3A dispatchers. There are two very different examples of FC-campers, which one looking quite a bit like Dan Horenberger’s old streamline camper (discussed in this Motor Trend article by Jim Allen). Also, don’t miss the last story which shows an FC with two sets of duallies on the rear.
