Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The 1950s jeeps were built for work. The 1960s jeeps were built for fun, as this 1968 ad from the Norwalk Hour attests.
The seller believes this photo is from the ALCAN, but the photo is blank on the back, so I’m not sure why the seller thinks this. Squamish is just north of Vancouver and closer to San Francisco than Dawson Creek. Still, it’s a neat old photo. (Squamish has been used as a film location substitute for Seattle-area-based movies like the Walking Tall remake).

This is supposed to have 11,000 original miles. Given the speedometer does not look original, this may not be accurate. Still, this looks very original and in good shape.

Looks like a solid, updated M-38A1.
‘A solid M38A1. Can be restored to it’s original military form or used as it is. Been a hunting rig for years.
Not stock: equipped as follows:
Buick V6-12k winch-warn hubs-full cage roll bar- 32 inch wheels & tires-12 volt electrical system. Dual exhaust. Runs strong. Power steering. The left front fender kissed a pine tree-have an original M38A1 replacement fender for it. This baby doesn’t have to jump thru DMV’S smog hoop! Now isn’t that nice!
I own 2 other Jeeps just don’t use this one.
Oh yes, it’s all set up to tow, wired and tow bar tabs. All you need is a tow bar. I have one I can sell?”

Looks solid, but a 1964 wouldn’t have the WILLYS branding on the hood or tailgate. It also would have had a place for the parking brake, but that is absent on this one.

“Beautifully restored 1948 Willy’s jeep, very low mileage, garage kept except for the past few weeks. It has a 50 ft heavy duty winch tat works, body in prefect condition. Original engine. For more information plz message. It’s been I the family for over 50 years and has been well taken care of. It will start but needs carbonator rebuilt, tires, and a battery. It’s a true classic. May be willing to trade for a newer truck, depending.”

Oh my! This has a rare DJ-3A air cleaner. If someone buys this jeep, I’d be interested in that air cleaner.

“This is a project I started, and found out I just don’t have time to complete…. I have over 4500$ invested plus the time to install rear brakes, floor, get running properly etc…the running gear of this truck is what truly drives the value, making it a viable project. Seller lists this as a 1948, but it’s a DJ-3A body. I messaged the seller to let him know.

GMWillys and his lovely wife visited the Birmingham Alabama’s Southern Museum of Flight the other day and took some photos for us. He notes that the museum is fairly impressive, given the relatively small space. And, the jeep count is at three: an M-38, an M-38A1, and a CJ-V35. See the pics below.

This spec sheet is a rare one. It’s not clear to me how the seller arrived at the 1953 date.
