El Dorado Jeepherders Jeep Club

In 1945, a movie called the Jeep-Herders was released. Not long after that (most likely between 2 to 6 years), several folks formed the El Dorado Jeepherders jeep club in the Placerville area of California. My assumption is that the name of the club came directly from the movie.

The internet claims that the El Dorado Jeepherders is the oldest jeep club in existence, however I could find no dates to confirm this. One claim puts the club’s roots in early 1950. By the early 1950s, there were several clubs in existence in the West, including the two earliest that I know of: the Yakima Ridge Runners and the Hemet Jeep Club. A copy of the club’s original bylaws can be found on eBay. Here are pics of them:

“This is a Willy’s Go Devil engine. This is an engine that has a conversion kit on it to make it into an air compressor. The engine is stuck, not blown up! The generator is missing also the air tank, air gauge, and fuel tank. I put some trans fluid in all of the cylinders about five months ago. The block is not cracked! It was built between 1945-1955. If you are restoring a Willy’s Jeep and need a engine this would work well for that.
I just don’t have the time to work on it right now, so I would rather re-home it than let it sit and collect dust any longer.”

Does run and can be licensed as is but it does smoke a little. Not licensed since 2007. Electrical system is 12 volt and starter rebuilt just before I quit licensing it. Ignition system was rebuilt before I purchased a number of years ago. Will slip out of 2nd gear if let up on gas and don’t shift. Brakes are fair. Mileage unknown. Battery weak but will include new battery for $50. There are a number of rusted out areas but does not show when driving. See pictures. (note: fake Gatling gun is NOT included)”
