UPDATE: **SOLD**
The half-top show below (which is in poor shape) has an Oneida Military Contract Data plate (here’s a second Oneida hardtop). Anyone familiar with that company vis-a-vis jeep tops? Most interesting, it has a manufacture date of 1951, which means it could very well have been original to the CJ-3A, meaning the 3A (not that there is much left of it) could have been a military 3A.
“3a parts for sale. Windshield frame $300.00 Original seats passenger and driver $200.00 ea. $350 for the pair. Tail gate $100 pretty rough but would make a great decoration. “I have a 1943 Willy’s jeep flat fender. This has a chevy conversion, I has a 327. The only reason I am selling this is I don’t have time to work on it. It does come with a tow bar and heavy duty winch on the front. When we picked this up it was a ranch jeep and had carpet in it. We took the seats and carpet out. I was going to redo the center console metal work. I have two sets of seats that will come with the jeep and I am also have the back seat that was in it. I can put this on my trailer and deliver if needed for a fee depending on distance.”
Rick shared photos of this year’s wet and rainy Great Willys Picnic. I’ve added a few pics from Bill Reiss, too. Bill captured the rain pretty well during the morning caravan to the event.
Here are Rick’s photos:
UPDATE: **SOLD** was $5200
(06/11/2018) TJ spotted this one. This was sold out of Costa Mesa, the place where Hadley Engineering was based. So, it could be a VEEP.
“This is a chance to own a rare VW Veep it’s made to look like a Willys Jeep. it’s a kit car from the 70’s and 80’s out of Costa Mesa CA. per the previous seller. It’s a blast to drive. I love Willys Jeeps and VW’s so when I saw this last year on Ebay. I thought, why not, no wife to stop me. LOL. Well it’s just too much fun to sit in the garage, no time to enjoy. Fun to tinker with. I shipped it to the NE from CA had the seats redone. Removed the back seat (still have somewhere) and took off some pin strips. It looks good from 20 feet and still needs some tinkering with some of the electrical items. ground issue i think. Wipers are not hooked up and the horn doesn’t work. I can’t figure out how the parking brake works or maybe it doesn’t. I bought it with a 1971 VW title and it came back from PA DMV titled as a 1947 Willys. it’s got a bug front and rear end, air cooled VW 1835 dual port VW rebuilt motor, new carb per previous owner. I really don’t know too much about these.”
UPDATE: **SOLD* Was $6500.

“I have a project 1945 Ford GPW in need of a restoration. It’s not 100% complete, but it’s a good starting point. The body has your typical rust, but overall it’s solid. Yes, the original glovebox dataplates are there. The frame is compete, and also solid from end-to-end. Surprisingly, the front gussets, frame horns and rear crossmember have not been hacked and butchered.
All topbow brackets, grand handles, tire carrier, and miscellaneous pieces in the last photo are new reproduction parts.
This GPW is California-registered under my name with a non-operational status. It also comes with the original yellow on black California 1950-1960s licence plates. The number and license plates all match on the title (“pink slip”).”

I spent much of Saturday catching up around the house from our long absence . I’d planned to do updates in the evening, but I got busy hunting down a mysterious entity that appeared to be using our wifi. So, I had to mess around with our router awhile (update firmware, change password, etc). I expect updates to return to normal on Monday.

“1960 FC-170 running and clean title. Located 1 1/2 hours east of Chicago. Original engine and transmission.”
Seth just finished his winter project: a VW diesel conversion on his CJ-3A. Last November he bought a 1949 CJ-3A, but didn’t discover it had a bad block until he pulled the engine apart. So he decided to install a VW engine, while keeping everything else as close to original as he could; it still has the t-90, Spicer-18, Saturn overdrive, Dana 25/41 (lockrite F/R). As a result, the new engine produces 110hp/190ft and he is averaging 38 miles per gallon!
I asked Seth a few questions. Here are his answers:
1) What gave you the idea to us that engine?
I’ve always been a fan of diesel swapped jeeps. My CJ-5 has a Mercedes diesel in it. When I started rebuilding the CJ-3A I realized the l-head would need some work. So, I thought rather than spend money on that, why not put a TDI in it? The engine was already sitting under the work bench as a spare for my daily driver (TDI jetta wagon). I have a small lathe & mill in my basement. It took endless nights making chips and taking measurements. But it’s in and it works!
2) Did you run into any unexpected issues?
I ran into many issues. Some were expected, others were a total surprise. My biggest challenge is that this was not a previously documented swap. So, I was on my own. Honestly there were a few times I almost threw in the towel. The biggest issue was just physically fitting the engine in the jeep. My goal was to keep the jeep as untouched as possible. that meant leaving the drive train in the stock location. I wanted all original driveshafts, cross member and trans cover, etc.
