Reader Builds — A Garage Full of CJ-2As in Wisconsin
A reader named Robert in Wisconsin has provided some pictures of a CJ-2A collection he has put together. For me, this brought back memories of living in Wisconsin. In fact, the reason I sold my first jeep was to fund a move to Wisconsin back in 1992. I knew I couldn’t haul it around and keep it maintained, so I figured it was time to let it go. I called Wisconsin home for two years and have plenty of fond memories of the Dane County Farmer’s Market, Old World Wisconsin, 40 below temperatures (brrrrr) and the birth of my first son.
Robert has been kind enough to share a number of stories and pictures below. Many Thanks! BTW, to the right is the way a garage should look!
#1 – 1946 CJ2A (tan)
I got interested in CJ2As after buying a 1969 Series IIA Land Rover a couple years ago (ed note: shown at the bottom of the post). I had always wanted a Series 109 Rover and had convinced my wife that I needed one for my beekeeping hobby. We had been hauling beehives and honey around in her mini van and she’d had enough of the sticky mess and ticked off bees that got stuck in her van. With her blessing I located a Rover for sale in Minnesota and dragged it home. I really enjoyed the Rover and put it to good use, but found it was way too big for the garage. Also, it was right-hand-drive and it made me feel like I was driving in the ditch all the time. After awhile, I started looking for something a bit smaller that I could still use for the bee hobby. That’s when I noticed a nice looking 1946 CJ2A on ebay. I bid on it and won. The previous owner had done a really nice restoration and equipped it with a vintage Western snowplow. I never thought I’d need a plow, but it actually ended up coming in handy with all the snow we got that winter. I’m convinced the plow saved my back from shoveling. This is the tan jeep with the soft top shown with my dog.
1960 CJ-3B Elkin, NC eBay
There’s some rust on the body, but this looks like it’s a very stock, quite complete CJ-3B. It might make a great restore project. Note the other flattie to the right in the pic.
“This is a Willys cj3b jeep that I bought with the intention of restoring. I do not have a title for this vehicle. I will give a bill of sale. I believe this jeep could be restored. The running gear is complete. I have not tried to start the engine. I believe this jeep was used as a plow jeep. It does have rust mostly in the back sections. It has a factory hard top that is solid, and could be brought back to like new condition. It would make a great restore project.”
1960 FC-150 Dover, NJ **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** No Price Listed
“1960’s era Jeep FC-150 (Forward Control) restoration project or parts vehicle. 4cyl OHV, manual trans, hydraulic dump, aux hydraulics, plow mount, single wheel rear axle, many parts interchange with FC 170’s. I can transport vehicle within a 50 mile radius for a small fee. I also have a 1983 Jeep CJ-7 with a small block Chevy 350, 4spd manual trans, hardtop, plow mount, in “need” of restoration or good parts vehicle. Both vehicles ran and are complete, though in “need” of restoration.
1948 CJ-2A Littleton, MA **SOLD**
The more I read the list of specs on this jeep, the more I liked it. The drive train is a great combo for both on road and off road. I think the addition of an overdrive would really complete this nice package.
“This is a 1948 Willys CJ2A with a Meyer power angle plow setup. I put the plow on 3 years ago and it was only used on my driveway. This jeep has seen its share of off-road use so it isn’t a show vehicle. It is a very strong working Jeep that is a blast to drive on and off road. Body is a replacement steel tub, hood, fenders, grill, windshield frame and tailgate are original. 225 cu.in. Dauntless V6 from a 1970 Jeep. HEI electronic ignition.
SM420 transmission, 4 speed with 7.05:1 granny low first gear. Dana 18 transfer case with the large 1.25″ intermediate shaft. Dana 44 rear axle with Lockright locker and 4.27 gears. Dana 27 closed knuckle front axle with 4:27 gears.”
1963 Willys Scranton, Pa $1300
There’s a small chance this is a CJ-3B rather than a CJ-5. No pics shown.
“Jeep is solid and runs strong, has a 350 chevy motor with a 4 bolt main, size 31 tires like new, new brakes upgraded from 9 inch to 11 inch(cost 800.00), new rag top, snow plow with mounting bracket for the jeep, great for a hunting camp or for play, must sell need room for other toys. 570-778-1008”
1948 CJ-2A Isle, MN **SOLD**
It runs, it plows, and it appears pretty darn stock. Can’t tell much about the condition from the one distant image.
“1948 Willys Jeep with 6 1/2 ft meyers snow plow. Have title and also comes with soft top and tow bar. Original 4 cyl engine with new tires and custom dual exhaust.”
1944 MB Grass Valley, CA **SOLD**
1953 CJ-3B Pelican Rapids, Mn **SOLD**
Only this one pic is available. It looks very nice.
“1953 Willys Kaiser Jeep w/12,000 actual miles, 90% restored, yellow, 3 speed, first year of the civilian jeep, rear seat, snow plow, front tow bar, goes down the road at speed limit. Includes white soft top with doors.”

UPDATE: I haven’t updated this page in some time. A lack of time, due to the increase in jeeps for sale, is the direct cause. I have thought of ways to automate this process a little more, but haven’t implemented this yet.
That said, I believe the jeeps sold and not sold and their related prices are representative of the current market.
I got an idea for an eBay results page after seeing a similar page at the FCConnection site. I’ve followed almost no jeep auctions to their conclusion, so I expect this will be interesting. These results will focus on the 1/4 ton flat fenders (Models: MB, GPW, CJ-2, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M-38, CJ-3B, DJ-3A). The ebay resutls are a bit complicated, as sometimes the highest bid doesn’t win due to the bidder not reaching the seller’s reserve amount.

1946 CJ-2A Rice Lake, Wi eBay
Brian found this unique ’46 on eBay. No doubt there’s a certain personal touch to this CJ-2A.
“For sale I have a 1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep. It runs good, all 4 WD works properly. It needs rear brake drum installed, I have the drum. It has all new brake shoes and wheel cylinders, duel rear wheels needs wiring work for lights to all work. The jeep was my dads he had it since 1962 it was always kept in the garage. The body is in pretty good shape for a 46. It was painted in 1995 and it had floor patches welded in 5 years ago. The snow plow, hydrolic up and down manual left and right. I just put in a new interstate battery. It was converted to a 12v system. Thanks for looking, ask any and all questions. The jeep is for sale locally, I can stop the auction at any time!!!!!”
