Chad reminded me that I hadn’t done a post yet on the Big Willy Mutant Jeep, a project meant to be a supersized, trail capable, jeep. The build is being documented on Facebook using both video and photos: https://www.facebook.com/BigWillyJeep/
Here are some pics:
This article in the Chanhassen Villager, out of Minnesota, highlights Steve Knigge’s rebuild of a 1947 CJ-2A.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
I can’t remember seeing this ad for a Cutlas Wheel cover that included an FC-170.

“1950 willys cj3a
$5,500 title in hand.
registered, and inspected at the time of writing this add. I may consider trade for a Tj wrangler unlimited or cj8 scrambler
This has the factory Dana 44 rear axle, front has been upgraded to discs and has a locker installed. I do not know the brand of the locker. At the moment this is a groceries getter for me and nothing else. Tires still have the nubs on the edges.
They are bfg mud terrains with pro comp simulated bead locks. Body work is not awesome, has the storage box under passenger seat, new fuel tank.
There is also a 4.3 vortec fuel injected v6 under the hood. Lots of power for this little truck. Alum radiator, elec fan, power steering, and the ac compressor is setup to be oba “on board air”.”
UPDATE: Still Available.
(08/07/2018) Bill spotted this one. Based on the lack of gussets on the bumper, I’d say this is some kind of modified 3A.

“Have had this jeep for a few years now and don’t have time asking for 3000 not in a rush so don’t lowball me it’s on non op and have pink slip”
UPDATE: Well, there was supposed to be a post above this one (hence the “mutant supersized jeep” comment), but the post scheduler did not automatically post it. That’s a tech fail!
From a mutant supersized jeep, we turn to the Mini FC. Scott reminded me that I hadn’t shared this video of Headquake’s FC-170 RC jeep. A couple years ago I featured another of HQ’s projects, the RC MB. You can see other projects (200 videos) on Headquake’s Youtube channel, including a CJ-5, a Jeep Rural, a Cherokee, and a Wagoneer,
Eight inches of rain in twenty-four hours sounds miserable!

“This is an original press photo. Guadalcanal has two seasons, the rainy, between November and May and the wet. The only difference is that during the wet season there are no floods or as the natives put in when the rainy season comes “White men leaves the island, and the native die.
American Marine soldiers and sailors couldn’t leave the island and when the rainy season reached peak recently they were amazed at the vast quantities of water that poured continuously from the clouds. As much as eight inches of rain fall in 24 hours and river rose as high as seven feet above normal in two hours, Frantically everything was under water and most transportation was by boat. Flood Bridged – Two jeeps make their perilous way across a temporary bridge that was constructed over a low spot on Guadalcanal to prevent disruption of traffic. The swirling waters undermined this bridge before it was even completed but the floods caused such a major problems to transportation that anything above water was considered safe.
Photo measures 8.25 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 04-30-1944.”
UPDATE: Price dropped to $8000.
(05/27/2018) Looks like a nice jeep.

Tach,Full roll cage.Tow bar, spare tire w/ highlift jack.soft top with full doors and I also have metal half doors that go with. Motor has msd ignition, intake and headers and corvette mufflers. Sounds real good. Plenty of power and low gears.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500.
Has a tiny bit of rust at the driver’s step, but otherwise looks in good shape.
“This is an original VEEP VW kit car assembled using a kit from Hadley Engineering in 1978. The all steel Willy’s body sits on a 2″X3″ box steel frame. A VW link pin front beam, a sedan extended rear trailing arm/adjustable torsion beam suspension, a VW bus 4 speed trans and 1969 air-cooled VW engine complete the kit. This rare kit is sought after by both Jeep and VW fanatics and always garners attention wherever you go.
The ‘BestTop’ vinyl top is only a few years old and is like new. Always garaged. The overall condition is very good with limited surface rust. Starts and runs great. Rear wheel drive. Brakes are a bit touchy as expected with the vintage drum style brakes. This unit includes a solid tow-bar and the light weight makes this a breeze to tow.
Meets registration requirements as an antique auto registered as a 1969 VW.”
