Original Post September 17, 2018:
Hugo Vidal, that 85 year old intrepid traveler from Brazil (and founder of AVM) has published his book. I received a copy last week and tore right through it. It’s written in both Portuguese and English. Since Ann and I traveled with Hugo and his son Fernando last year for four weeks, I knew most of the stories he included in his book. But, there were a few new ones and some fuller explanations on others. It’s also full of photos, some I hadn’t seen.
Most of the book centers on the 1956/1957 trip. But, there’s a little bit at the end about the 2017 Alaska Or Rust adventure. And on that, I have a minor quibble. Hugo remembers me contacting him about joining us on the trip. Actually, it was Hugo who contacted me. His eagerness was infectious, as this email extract, the second email he wrote me, underscores:
“…. Since we only heard about the Alaska or Rust caravan yesterday, my son and I rushed to try and find a way of joining in. But I understand now that participation is closed. Even though we don´t even have a vehicle yet, if there is a chance for a place in the waiting list we will somehow purchase, lease, borrow or steal one….”
Maury is hoping to find a set of installation instructions for his NOS Warn M2 3-ring type hubs.
“I have a set of NOS Warn M2 hubs in the original box that’s missing the instruction sheet, and am trying to either find or reproduce one. If someone has an original copy they’d be willing to sell, great – but a good scan or photo of the unfolded document would also suffice to reproduce it. Here’s a photo of the installation instructions / owner’s manual with a set of early Warn locking hubs. The sheet folded down to about 3″ x 3”:
This includes NOS Desert Dogs on Hurricane Rims and a Husky Overdrive.

ORIGINAL POST (02/23/2013): This was sold in 2013 on eBay.
Was a former high school project. Looks solid. The floors have some liner.

“This jeep was my project in high school about 5 years ago. It’s been kept in the garage since then. Starts and runs like a champ, the engine (original 4 cylinder L-head) was rebuilt just before I got it, so very low hours. We had the transmission rebuilt, shifts like the day it was built. Body and paint (’46 Harvest Tan scheme even though this is a ’47 by serial number) is in excellent condition, interior protected with color matched bed liner. Hat channels are like new, no rust.

Craig shared this modified wagon. Note that it has right hand drive. Maybe this was a former right hand drive postal wagon?

Looks quite complete. This was made for 3 years (1950, 1951, 1952), not two years. Also, not the last of the flat fenders.

“This a military M38 Jeep. Only made for 2 years. The last and best of the flat fenders. Converted to 12 volt. Has lots of extra parts and goodies. Has a full winter cab and heater.”

“Clearly needs work, project Jeep. does run, manual transmission. Engine and transmission have been rebuilt. Comes with new and used parts. Text for more details. just don’t have time for it anymore everything that’s needed to finish it comes with it. Would be interested in trades just let me know what you have. I am asking way less for it and everything that comes with it then it is worth.”
Probably an FC-170 chassis. No pics of chassis provided.

“FC jeep chassis. Frame, 6 cyl jeep gas engine, transmission, transfer case, axles. Was running when parked. Picture is for reference only. This is only the frame, engine, drive train, no body components. I can load on your trailer.
Rick shared this one. Seller notes the ‘many military accessories, but I don’t see any?

“1948 Jeep CJ with many military accessories. Motor stuck and requires complete restoration. Many parts. Bill of sale only. No trades and no texts. Phone calls only. $1000 OBO.”
This may have updated axles, but the frame looks to be 2A based on the transfercase crossmember bracket. I suspect only the title is a 1965 CJ-3B.

“1948 Willys Jeepster Overland for parts. The floor boards are severely rusted but it has a ton of useable and restorable parts. The drivetrain is complete. All of the frame work for the convertible top is still there. It isn’t really a builder quality chassis but I have seen worse starts to projects! It has NO TITLE. It spent well over 40 years inside a semi trailer. Sold complete only, AS-IS.”
UPDATE: Still Available.
(10/02/2018) Has some interesting hubs (Sears-branded Dualmatics?). Might be a VEC. Just say NO to NADA vis-a-vis Willys.
https://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/d/1946-jeep-willys-cj2a-in-good/6709235272.html
“I am selling a 1946 Jeep Willys CJ2A that we’ve owned for 20 years. It is in really good condition for its age with some normal rust under the floorboards which have been repaired. It has a 4 cylinder Willys engine which runs really good. The clutch works great and the 3 speed transmission and transfer case shifts very well. The brakes work as they should. There is some play in the steering wheel. The steering wheel itself is not original as it was replaced by my husband so he could fit in the driver seat! Electrical was converted to 12 volts. The tires are like new and the seats were reupholstered and have no tears in them. It comes with a 6000# Ramsey electric winch with a wired remote control. It also has a tow bar which is included.
Some issues: there is a small oil leak at the rear differential bearing shaft, the passenger side windshield is cracked, the odometer and the fuel gauge are not working and there are some minor electrical issues with the lights.
If you are familiar with the 1946 Willys, you know that it is a good investment if you decide to have it fully restored. For information, the NADAguides list it at $7,450 for Low Retail, $19,100 for Average Retail and $33,400 for High Retail.
I am asking $7,950.00 or best offer. CASH only. Serious inquiries only please.”
