Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Former Air Force jeep.
“24v everything is functioning and All original – still has the original paint (blue was for the Air Force; this Jeep was on an air craft carrier when in the service) new tires tubes and rims and battteries installed by les Schwab, brakes and engine tune up has been done too- fun to drive!!! Has 4low with lockers, tow bar and is wired for flat towing; comes with many extra parts: Bikini top, charging cable for supplying 24v to ???? Many extra parts original- this has been in the family and well cared for for a LONG time and it’s condition shows – always kept covered (very little rust) even the engine paint is original – black out running lights all work so enemy aircraft can’t target you! Haha
Clean and current pink slip in hand – no past reg or anything dumb- even the original turn signals still work!
I’ve seen these go for BIG money on the auction blocks so I’m testing this out – make me a actual offer and I’ll consider it – cash only – no trades – no checks – you pick it up yourself and hand me cash 🙂

“An east county San Diego Jeep since it was brand new. This is the “Dispatcher” model, that was originally sold as a 2wd.
This Jeep was professionally converted to 4wd with surplus military M38 parts by Border Parts in Spring Valley. Saginaw steering, Dana 25 front axle, Dana 44 rear, Dana 18 transfer case, and a T90 transmission with Borg Warner overdrive completes this rock-solid suspension and drivetrain conversion.
The engine is a 1964 Ford 260 cid V-8 out of a Fairlane. Engine routinely starts on first crank. A new ring gear on the flywheel, new starter and new clutch were recently installed by Action Cylinder Heads in Santee.

“Clean frame and body with new paint. This is a great clean slate for someone looking to finish where I started. I have a brand new wheel bearing set, new brakelines installed and a whole new exhaust system for it. Also included is a Walcks Wiring Harness and some other goodies. Everything is there, transmission is in perfect shape, transfer case too. Engine needs a complete rebuild. Brand new Corbeau seats, still have all additional parts needed to put the jeep back together minus some hardware and engine components. Like new STA NDT tires on original rims. UPDATE: Someone pointed me in the direction of this Walter Baumhofer CJ-3B calendar image (I can’t remember who, but please take credit in the comments).
There’ s no name associated with this one. At 16″ x 12″, it’s a little smaller than Emmett Watson’s “Jeepers” print. You can see more of Walter’s work over at the CJ-3B page.
Original Post (11/19/2018): Robin recently purchased this Walter M. Baumhofer illustration at an auction. It’s titled “Self Appreciation”. According to intelligentcollector.com, Walter was one of the most prolific Adventure Pulp artists out there. Among other prolific pulp adventure artists mention in the article is Emmett Watson.
Funny how both Emmett’s illustration Jeepers and Walter’s image has two men, a jeep, a tent, a red blanket, and three bears. I find that a big coincidence.
