1963 DJ-3A Surrey Colchester, CT $1400

This looks to be a DJ-3A converted to 4WD, among other changes. Has a Kelly hardtop. Thanks to John for sharing it.

“Runs, drives, stops, plows(kinda). Needs battery. Frame is very solid. Body isnt in very good condition but not horrible and floor is decently solid. Had 290 v8 put in at one point and i have no idea the mileage. It leaks coolant from the radiator cap and hydraulic fluid from one of the plow hoses but you can just take the plow off cause it’s not very useful. I just put a new fuel pump in it. It’s a 3 speed manual that shifts into all gears easily. It’s old as hell so it’s obviously not perfect. I was told that most its life it was just a farm truck. I got it as a project but i have too many going on and need to clear some vehicles off the property. I have the title from the previous owner and bill of sale. Would like it gone sooner rather than later so shoot me an offer. (i have the door for the back but it’s missing a hinge so i took it off)”

1965 Jeep News Volume 11 Number 6

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This eight-page holiday  issue is the final issue of 1965 (only 6 issues produced). Page one introduces the first luxury Wagoneer, the Jeep Super Wagoneer. Page two highlights the growing demand for contract plowing. Page three continues the luxury wagon discussion, while also noting that parts can make an “attractive store display”; so, when you start hanging parts in the living room, just show your partner this article and how it can be actually attractive (good luck with that, lol).

Pages four and five share more on Gladiator and Wagoneer vehicles. Page six shows off an unusual display in Peru, while the new Kaiser Argentina Model 101 four-door jeep is depicted. Page seven shares news on the Afton Canyon excursion in Southern California, which is the first I’ve heard of this annual trip. It drew 398 vehicles in 1965.

Page eight includes a story on a New Jersey M-38 fire jeep. Also on the page is a photo of Col. Dave Harbour, an outdoor writer who drove his wagon 100,000 miles, being presented with a model jeep, but I can’t tell what kind of model it is.

Gary shared this low-mile CJ-5, which rings in at 6,619 miles (assuming it hasn’t been run backwards). Given the overall condition, it seems probable that the mileage is accurate, though I’m surprised at the mods given its short work life.

“Selling a one registered owner 1961 CJ5. 6k ORIGINAL MILES. I bought from original owner 20 some years ago. Still in his name with ORIGINAL NJ title . This CJ5 is as good as you could ever find. ORIGINAL EVERYTHING including tires. ( Goodyear Suburbanites). He used it to plow his drive and go to town. Parked it in heated basement with chains still on it in 1983. Hasn’t been started in 40 years. A TIME CAPSULE”

1964 Jeep News Volume 10 Number 6

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features, videos • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Te eight-page 1964 Jeep News Volume 10 Number 6 begins with a record retail sales announcement. These revenue numbers were primarily driven by the three models shown at the bottom of page one, including the Tux Park CJ-5, the Wagonneer, and the Gladiator. Increasing numbers of dealers also helped. Page two mentioned how the golf partnership was already providing beneficial, with inquiries numbering in the hundreds arriving at dealers. Page three shows three of the new KJC-approved “ad mats” available for dealers to place in local newspapers.

Page four highlights a dealer in Ohio that tries to sell a Meyer plow with every jeep sale, claiming it isn’t that hard to do. Page five provides the results of a dealer contest. Page six shares the news of the National Search and Rescue group and their recent election. Page eight turns international, with pics and captions from around the world. On page eight you’ll find the results of Boulder, Colorado’s, 4th annual Jeep-O-Rama. The winner of a brand new CJ-5 was Donnie Beyer, whose father owned a jeep dealership. Pretty good for a 17-year-old kid! Lower on the page is a DJ-3A with an unusual door and top setup. Finally, on the lower right, is a fairly well-know pic of Barb Eden (right) and Shelley Fabares with a DJ-3A Surrey from the movie “Ride the Wild Surf” (see trailer at bottom).

Hasn’t ran in about 5 years. It does turn over but I believe the distributor needs to be replaced. All the serial number tags are intact. Body is very rough especially the floors. Frame seems to be in decent shape. Good candidate to fix and use on the property, use for parts or restore with new sheet metal. Plow blade is included. No title just a bill of sale. $2500 obo.”

It looks like a good price for the pair. Thanks to Andy for spotting them.

https://desmoines.craigslist.org/pts/d/van-meter-willys-frame-weights/7689732781.html

“Willy’s front frame weights for the Agri-jeep / trenchers and even snow plows in great condition and can load for you ! If you have a new 2023 wrangler Willy’s sport the addition of just one of these weights to the back for traction this winter will make your new “Willy’s” 6.72% percent real Willy’s jeep and the envy of all your fellow “Willy’s” jeep compatriots ! Both weights will of course double the percentage but I must warn you that your head might explode with pride and I recommend just settling for the one ! Percentage will vary with make and model !”

“This is a 1965 Kaiser Willys CJ-5 with a Hurricane 4-cylinder as well as a half cab, and an uncommon dome light on top. Looking for $1000 Or best offer. Pros It’s cool It has a clean title and is the ORIGINAL title Has a snow plow and I believe a willys branded hydraulic pump for the plow Has a rare dome light Has a half cab Has a bunch of good parts and semi good parts! …and bad parts if you’re into that… It is complete other than the natural weight reduction Has a factory heater And the frame is good

Cons DOES NOT RUN DOES NOT DRIVE WILL NEED TO BE PUT ON A TRAILER Tub is VERY rusted out, and the motor is stuck. It definitely a parts deal or a project.”

August/September 1958 Jeep News

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: A version of this issue was previously run in Oct 2020. I’ve improved the pics and added a little more detail to the introduction.

Here’s another six-page issue of Jeep News for the months August and September, which is followed in the post below by a special four-page “MAVERICK” Extra edition for the month of September.

Page one includes a short article about the US Post Office purchasing ninety FC-170s, all with power tailgates, which could mean that if you find an FC-170 with a power tailgate, it might have been a USPS jeep. Of the ninety, sixty-two had snow plows. All were stake bodies and painted red, white and blue.

Page two is all dealer-related info. Page three is mostly devoted to the Mile High ‘Jeep’ Club’s second annual ‘Jeep’ Endurance Run at FairPlay, Colorado.

Page four shows off a pretty neat truck, set up for fishing and camping. Also on page four, under “1943 Military ‘Jeep’ Vehicle Stars in Big Portland Rose Parade”, the article shares a little about the jeep and the parade. However, the jeep that’s pictured is actually an M-38. I can only suspect that the wrong photo was added to the article?

Page five has a misplaced headline for the Jeepers Jamboree (story on page six), when the story is actually about Meyer snow plows and other equipment (headline on page six). Page six is devoted to the Jeepers Jamboree.
