Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “2 1948 cj2as, one f head one L head. F head is seized, been soaking for a month or so. L head turns over. One body is in great shape for the build the other is for parts. Have PTO winch. Original wheels and tires. One has already been modified from the 6 to the 12 volt system. A radiator, carburetor and time is all I’m short on. “Ultra Rare 1960 Willys Jeep FC150 foward control – the shorter one – clear signed notarized Arizona title. From Arizona, was acquired from an estate last on road in 1992. Original drivetrain is complete. Front windshield is cracked in lower passenger side area about 6″ long,,drivers and passenger roll up windows are cracked, the Jeep had a son roof in it and that glass is missing which is why the floor boards and cab corners are rusty, water and leaves got in and sat inside for a long time. Otherwise very complete original vehicle, will need restoration or customization.
Has been in AZ its entire life, see photos for condition, will need metal work on both floor pans, cab corners, and probably to fill in that sun roof opening. Way back in the day it had black shag carpet glued on the dash, doors, and basically all over the inside of the cab, the glue had long since dried out and it all peeled off in pieces, thats why the interior metal looks like it does, mix of dried out glue and black carpet backing. This would all save off easily by hand no sweat. Has decent roller tires and steel wheels, rolls and turns easily. It is what it is, good builder rare Jeep to either restore or turn into a full custom on a modern Jeep chassis or with upgraded drivetrain. ”

These toy jeeps were part of the Seventh War Loan drive. Given the date this was published (July 19, 1945), could these have been the early Al-Toy jeeps?

Tom shared this low-mileage CJ-5. It has a documented history. Seats have been changed to cloth (read story), so at first they look worn, but it’s just the type of material. Overall, it seems in great shape.

“This CJ5 is all original. It has only 39,359 miles. Runs very well and has been driven a couple times a month. The original owner was a lady. I bought it from her in 2014. I replaced the radiator, fuel tank, shocks, leaf springs, heater core, tires, and gave it a tune-up. I only did this to maintain this jeeps integrity and dependability going forward.
Paint is excellent and shines as new. There is some noticeable wear after 43 years. I have taken it to local car shows and everyone is amazed at its condition. The hardcore car enthusiasts tell me over and over to do nothing more to this jeep. It has a documented story, it’s in rare shape, and is shows and runs amazingly well.
This is perfect for the individual wanting a daily driveable jeep or just a weekly joy ride without having to work on it first. It needs nothing mechanically. It is sound and fun to just putt-putt in.
I have a brown soft top, roll bar, rear mounted spare tire rack and owners manual. I also have the poster I had made telling a brief history of the jeep that I use at the shows.”

“This is a CUSTOM Build Jeep that has been “Road Tested” for 3000 miles since is build approximately 6 years ago.
Every detail is done to perfection. From the custom chassis on up. Some build features include, GM 350 crate motor with performer intake manifold, MSD ignition, and chrome header into a custom stainless steel exhaust. The axles are Dana 44’s with Warren front hubs, extended leaf srpings, and sway bars front and rear with disconnects for greater articulation as well as Bilstein shocks. The transmission is a Borg Warner T18 top loader – 4 Speed with a Dana twin stick transfer case. All lines and most of the hardware are stainless steel. The vehicle has power sterring, vented front disc brakes and sits nicely on Toyo 33x1350R15 Open Country tires mounted on M/T aluminum rims. Picture don’t do this Jeep justice, a close up examination speasks for itself.”

This has lots of updates. With all due respect to the builder, a “top notch” 3B ought to have, at the minimum, windshield wipers, more appropriate bumpers and no numbers on the side of the hood.

This May 23, 1943, American Car Company Ad was published in the Evening Star, out of Washington, D. C.. Given Bantam lost the production contract in 1941, it seems an unusual ad, especially many folks probably hadn’t heard of nor seen a Bantam vehicle.

This postcard shows Salty Johns, his dog Junior, and his “Flashy” jeep. Salty’s real name was Vernon Johns. He worked as the Audubon Society Wildlife Warden for Lydia Ann Island. He also brought some color to the Port Aransas, Texas, beaches. That sure is an unusual bumper setup.
