Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (08/21/2013) Looks like the windshield bends at the cowl. Not quite stock, looks solid.

“Selling my ’53 Willys Jeep. It has new tires including the spare, all new brakes which includes lines, hoses wheel cylinders and linings. New cap, rotor, points and condenser. Runs great and can be driven down the road legally. I have an clean title for it as well. I changed the oil recently with a synthetic oil and now it smokes on accel which it never did before ( honestly). I will change back to 10w30 and hopefully it will stop.. The body tub is rusted on the floor pans other than that it looks respectable driving down the road. Its primary use is on our property for hunting and baiting. Moving on to a UTV so I can keep up on the weekends with the neighbors. Text me if you have any questions. I have another hood that was used and the new fuel tank straps and sender which I haven’t installed. That goes along with it as well.”
This vintage GI Joe commercial includes a real jeep and jeep driver who attests to GI Joe’s accuracy.
The May/June 1960 issue of the California Highway and Public Works department periodical included an article of a survey of the Sierra Highway that included a CJ-5 and a wagon.

“The starters gone out, will need to be rebuilt unless you can find one. I just don’t have the time to put anymore work into her. Had the starter rebuilt last year and I’m just not in it with insuring a vehicle to drive around my neighborhood now that I don’t live in the country, Really fun machine to drive around and I’ve had great memory’s in this little Willy’s but it’s time for a toy that’s a little newer. Top speed is about 45 miles an hour, 4x4s and lockers work just fine, it’s been sitting since November.”

Not sure how much value is here. If the chassis is well done, a person could widen the body of this and maybe make something a little different. I think this might ride hard, given the suspension is built to handle a lot more weight than a jeep?

This upcoming expedition in mid-february of 2019 has a couple slots open for vintage jeeps. Thanks to Blaine for sharing it.

The 21st Annual Vintage 4×4 Expedition is looking for 10 more pre 1975 vehicles to embark on a 4 day back and logging road expedition. Vintage trucks, buggies, pre war speedsters, military vehicles, motorcycles and other means of vintage back country travel. Period correct pre 75 modifications only. We cap the entries at 40 vehicles, and provide starting locations and specifics to entrants only. This is a hosted semi private event. Be prepared to live out of your classic camping for an entire weekend in the worst weather the Sierras have to offer. Make sure your rig has tow points, recovery gear, and tire chains. This is not a casual run for nut and bolt correct parade vehicles. All vintage mountain equipment is welcome. We have very qualified mechanics, support and heavy off road recovery experience. Nobody will be stranded or left behind.
Day 1, Feb 14th : Thursday. Lafayette to Placerville via backroads.
Day 2: Friday. Foothills trails, vintage tractors, log skidding, tree falling, vintage chainsaws, coonhounds and the legendary Fri Night Bonfire. BYOB
Day 3: Saturday, Attempt to summit the Sierras by logging roads. A full day/ evening of driving in the snow. Return to base camp in Placerville.
Day 4: Sunday, Light trail runs, and break camp.

If you ever feel like there’s a lot of stuff on eWillys, you’d be correct. We’ve just passed the 50,000 post mark. This includes the fact that I’ve deleted roughly several thousand posts over the past few years as I try to clean up or eliminate old posts that have no value (such as those that lack photos) and mark others sold.
Side note: There are also 63,000+ comments and 6.5 million blocked spam comments since eWillys began.
Derek Redmond of the CJ-3B page shared these images from postcards on some European auction sites. It appears there are still 4×4 trips related to Canigou, which appears to be in the Pyrenean Mountains.

“I picked this up as a barn find about three years ago without seat frames, seats, wheel/tires, etc.
I have a considerable amount of time and money into it to get to this point.
Here are the details:
Clear title in hand.
The tires are brand new with less than 5 miles on them.
Seat covers are brand new.
Engine has good compression, starts and runs fine. Transmission shifts as expected.
Top has some yellowing on the clear plastic and a zipper that needs to be fixed. I understand there is a product that can mitigate that issue.

“For sale is a custom 1947 Willys CJ2A. The jeep itself is about 80% of the way done. It needs some light electrical and brake work, I am selling because I have too many vehicles and not enough time for this one. This jeep will make one cool camping rig when finished. Specs are as follows:
– Body is stretched 12″ and on a scout ii frame
-Chevy 350 engine with np 435 4spd transmission and dana 20 transfer case
– Dana 44 axles with 4.27 gearing
Included with the jeep are new headers, a new battery, a rear bumper and misc parts. Jeep is titled as a 47 willys. Will need to be towed by buyer as I don’t have access to a trailer.”
