Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “This is a solid 1954 CJ-3B with an original rust-free body and original-style drivetrain. It had a frame off restoration at some point. The correct F-head engine is from an M38-A1.
It has the correct T-90A transmission, Dana 18 transfer case, Dana 44 rear axle, and Dana 25 front axle.
It also has a Koenig 50 PTO with front and rear outputs. The front PTO powers the Koenig 151-J winch.
This Jeep is a wonderful vehicle to escape the stress of daily life. It will take you to spectacular scenery and introduce you to a great group of fellow vintage Jeep enthusiasts. It is nice enough to take to a car show and capable enough to take you out into the woods on a dirt trail.
I have done a lot of maintenance within the last year. Including a new radiator and all belts & hoses, new brake master cylinder and brake hoses, complete ignition system, 12-volt Optima red top battery with cut-off switch, and so on.
Windshield wipers and turn signals have been added. I installed a new Bestop Tigertop within the last year.

UPDATE IV: Branden found this 1945 Parts List booklet that includes a prominent “J” logo. This is the most prominent use of the logo that I’ve seen. It’s not clear to me whether this booklet was introduced with the jeep in August of ’45 or a little later in ’45.

UPDATE: This is best described as a working draft that Maury Hurt and I have constructed in the hopes of understanding Willys-Overland’s “J” logo better …. If you have input, please email me or add it in a comment at the bottom of the post.
In January of this year, Maury emailed me about a Willys/Cars•Trucks/Jeep logo that he was hoping to reproduce, wondering if I had any better examples of it. That simple email turned into a mission: Find out the history behind the logo.
I have one of these patches. Not sure who created them or when.
It turned out that we could find no articles or discussion about the evolution of the logo. So, we spent a month looking through old brochures and advertisements to develop a theory of what it should look like, when it was used, and why.
What’s the logo supposed to look like?
Our first challenge was to determine what the logo was supposed to look like. As these examples show, different fonts and slightly different looks were used in the printing of the logo.

Our suspicion is that this is from overseas, possibly Australia? We don’t have a time frame on this one.

“1949 3A Willys Jeep. Has GO Devil. 134 cubic inch with 60 HP. Very nice Jeep and loved att the car shows. I also run in local parades and run around town locally. She runs great. Never in the rain or snow. Original body as you can see was gone so I went south for another body. Jeep has 12 volt 3 wire GM alt. and charging and lights are no problem. Also installed electronic ignition recentlyalong with Warn front hubs.
She still needs a few things like a set of leaf springs as these are getting weak and a 2nd gear sycronizer. It will pop out of second when down shifting but pulls fine. Easy fixes. Prices came from Hemmings. Never thought I would sell but health forces me to.She is not perfect but very nice.”

“A very nice HISTORIC convertible ready to go.
Orig 4 cyl engine and 3 speed column transmission. Both were overhauled by previous owner who died before finishing his pride and joy. The car has lived it’s whole life in Oklahoma, and was finished by his son and then sold to dealer at estate auction.
The mileage reads 23,247. Cars runs great, shifts easy and rides smooth. Lights, brake lights and horn all work. It was repainted years ago in it’s original yellow color. Wide white wall poly tires are in excellent condition and run smooth. Brakes are very good and stop better than my truck. The car has no radio (optional in “48) and no heater (also optional) and your arm is the turn signal (I have TS kit that goes with the car). All these can easily be retro-fitted. The gas gauge is erratic but I have a complete extra dash that goes with car that will fix that problem. The orig generator has been replaced with a new 6v alternator for better spark and starting (old gen goes with the car).
All chrome is excellent, no rust. Floor pan has been replaced
The top canvas and back glass is in excellent condition and easily goes up and down, manually.
I purchased the car a couple of years ago. I have done some minor work on it but my 83 years have finally caught up with me and seriously limit my efforts.”

“I am selling my 1947, restored, CJ2A to make room for another project. This is one of the nicest 72 year old CJ2A’s you will find around. Obviously there is no rust. I don’t need to sell it, I could make everything fit if I need to. Everything works except the driver side vacuum wiper that I need to look at. The engine has been rebuilt and runs amazing. These old CJ’s are getting very hard to find, especially in this condition. There has been a lot of money put into this Jeep and it shows. The frame and body tags are on it. I have used this mostly for parades and just driving the grandchildren around. I am asking $14,500 OBO. If you have thought about restoring one, you will realize how reasonable this price is.”

“Two late 45 early 46 CJ-2A Willys VEC very early civilian Jeeps. The red one has matching body and tailgate numbers as seen in the pics (15007), three dash plaques, and two vin data plates (24662) on the firewall. It also has the key in coil, all column shift linkage and a good floor shift cover plate. The blue one also has matching body and tailgate numbers as seen in the pics (6469) but has no vin data plates. It does not have the key in coil, but it does have the little toggle switch under the dash for the parking lights. The column shift linkage has been removed under the hood, but the column is in it. Both have good grill marker lights. The rolling chassis is good with good front bumper bracket, rear bar, another column shift trans, t-case, drive shafts and axles. There is no number on the chassis. I also havedraw another column shift trans and transfer case to go along with this package.
