Updates Over the Next Few Days

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I’m spending the latter part of this week and weekend with Ann’s family as part of Stongfest (their annual reunion). So, I won’t be doing many updates other than she ones I’ll be doing for the Newfoundland crew (as well as Facebook updates).

Bill’s CJ-5 is loaded and ready for the ferry ride to Newfoundland. Bill, nice work on that photo!

UPDATE: It turns out the ferry takes 16 hours to reach Newfoundland from Nova Scotia, so they traveled over night on the ferry.

On Wednesday the group had a short drive from Linwood to Sydney, Nova Scotia, where they caught a ferry to Newfoundland. The ferry ride is around 16 hours (or so I was told), so they don’t arrive until Thursday morning.

2019-08-07-ns-nl-map

You can see the crew drove for less than 2 hours (lower left), so after several longs days, the start to their day has been pleasantly short.

The Newfoundland 2019 (or Rust) crew enjoyed a nice group breakfast to start their morning yesterday. That’s a pretty nice view!

2019-08-07-ns-nl-breakfast

On the left side of the table, front to back, we have Donna Ogle, Kathy Jo Ingrum, Scott Ingrum, Jim Fowler. On the right side, front to back, we have Tom “Cowboy” Ogle, Kevin “Smith”, Bill Reiss, and Joe Bee (his FB name … aka the mechanical genius).

After breakfast, the crew hit the road. At some point, Joe Bee’s alternator protested it’s working conditions and decided to strike, causing Joe’s battery to falter. Joe countered by borrowing a battery from Cowboy and Donna’s trailer. Then, they hunted down a new alternator.

1972 CJ-6 Lacey, WA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-6 • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This has been relisted at BAT (not sure if it is by the original or new owner). Thanks to Chad for spotting it.

“This 1972 Jeep CJ6 was reportedly purchased new from Sanford Motors in Tacoma, Washington and is said to have later remained in storage for 31 years with its second owner. Power comes from a 304ci V8 paired with a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case, and the body is finished in President Red with a white soft top over a black interior. The seller acquired the Jeep five months ago, and service in that time is said to have included a new brake light switch, an oil change, and a clutch adjustment. This CJ6 shows approximately 46k miles and is offered with a custom auxiliary fuel tank, a spare set of tires, removed parts, a service manual, and a clean Washington State title in the seller’s name.

<– Day 4 Aug 5th: Lobster Tales and Other Stories | The NF Trip 2019

UPDATE: It seems I landed flat on my face. It turns out that there is a Saint John, New Brunswick, and a St. John’s, Newfoundland, (thank you Ian). It’s all very hard to see that accurately from where I am on the West Coast. So my apologies!

On Tuesday the crew drove from Saint John, NB, to Linwood, Nova Scotia, a distance of just under 300 miles.

2019-08-07-saint-john-linwood

Yesterday the Newfoundland 2019 (or Rust) crew woke to a beautiful morning near the bustling city of Saint John, New Brunswick.

Here is a beautiful pic of St. John, NB:

canada-saint-john-city-waterfront

I learned Tuesday that the crew had been in Canada almost 24 hours, yet still hadn’t been to a Tim Horton’s, the second greatest thing Canada has ever produced; the greatest thing the country has produced, of course, are stand-in movie locations: Vancouver as Portland (I’m looking at you Grimm) or the Drumheller Valley in place of the US West (Unforgiven).

UPDATE: I originally wrote this post prior to the end of the auction, as I new I’d be busy all night. I should have known that someone would sweep in and snap this up for more than the $10 I was willing to pay. So, I actually missed out on this one.

I could imagine there are few, if any, left. I’ve considered doing a coloring book, but have no way to gauge the interest on something like that.

1959 Wagon Petersburg, IL **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Willys Wagons • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $19,990.

Ed is regretfully selling his beloved beautiful 1959 wagon.

1959-wagon-petersburg-il1 1959-wagon-petersburg-il2 1959-wagon-petersburg-il3 1959-wagon-petersburg-il4

“For Sale, a 1959 Willys Overland Utility Wagon.
Willys Overland is the God Father of the American Jeep.
It is a 6 cylinder, 3 speed manual, dual range, posi rear end. 4×4.
It has 16,000+ on it. When I got it it still had the original tires on it. The spare tire is original and never been used. I still have them and they will go with the Willys.
It is 12 volt original, it actually had a radio which I had updated. It is a workhorse, it likes 50 mph due to the 4.38 rear end in it.
It is a good award winner at shows if you like car shows. I always get a thumbs up when I drive it.
It is very original and an easy car to work on. Even has the original straw type headliner which is in very good shape. I will be adding pics the next few days. You might of seen it around the Petersburg – Springfield area.
Open to a reasonable offer as well.

I replaced all the fluids, dropped the gas tank and had it cleaned, replaced the bushings in the springs, rebuild the carb, new brake lines and master cylinder, reground all the lights, has an Optima battery in it, had the wiper motor rebuilt, dropped the transmission and had it checked out. Plus a lot of little things.”

1959 CJ-3B and 2 Trailers Austin, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7500.

This includes a dolly trailer and Bantam TC3 trailer.

1959-cj3b-trailers-austin-tx2 1959-cj3b-trailers-austin-tx3 1959-cj3b-trailers-austin-tx4

“1959 Jeep CJ3B, 1947 Bantam TC3 trailer and JEEP dolly to haul any flat fender JEEP. 3B has a rebuilt F134 Hurricane engine and runs pretty good. Transmission and transfer case were rebuilt at the same time and were all installed almost 4 years ago. Needs a carb rebuild since it has been sitting. Has a Warn Overdrive installed which gives a 30% reduction in engine speed and doubles the number of gears you have.

All of the work that I have done to it was completed a little over 3 years ago. Complete braking system, except hard lines, was done. BF Goodrich All-Terrains were installed. All seats redone. Duraliner bed liner rolled into the tub. Rattle can paint job in desert tan. Bluetooth stereo.

Jeep is overall in good shape. There are some rust holes and a few places underneath where someone welded on some random plate for repairs. 1947 Bantam is in pretty good shape. Has some rust spots in the tub. Tows great, tires are good and lights work.

Jeep Dolly is made specifically for hauling flat fender Jeeps. Balanced good and has a trailer brake.

Have titles for all. $7,500 cash gets everything and some miscellaneous parts that I have as well.”

1957? CJ-6 Johnstown, CO **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-6 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $9750.

Has upgrades. The title lists it as a 1954, so the seller isn’t sure why that is.

1957-cj6-johnstown-co1 1957-cj6-johnstown-co2 1957-cj6-johnstown-co3 1957-cj6-johnstown-co4

“Solid jeep, lots of new parts, just added power steering, new wiring, new brake master, new hydraulic clutch, new swing pedals, new tail lights, corner guards, seats (bucket front, bench rear). New heater/defrost, radiator, alternator, power steering pump, clutch, headers (outside frame), exhaust.  Just repaired rust in floor pan and structure, repaired tailgate rust, new instrument gauges, new dash cover (hand made/fit), repaired firewall.

This is set up for jeeping, geared really low for off-road, not for highways.  I have additional roll bar from CJ7, I was going to use for parts to create front cage at windshield, just haven’t gotten to it.

Paint in poor condition, former owner used bed-liner and rolled on lime green paint, comes off with ease though.

Additional pics available.  Will take only reasonable offers.

The wierd thing, this is titled as a 1954, but CJ6’s weren’t made until 1955. VIN starts with 57, so I think that is what it is supposed to be.”

<– Day 3 August 4th: Maine’ly Driving Late Day 5 Aug 6th: Scooting Across to Nova Scotia –>

2019-08-05-sanford-me-newbrunswick-merlin-work3

Jim, Kevin and Merlin parked for the night Monday night at the Rockwood campground in Saint John, NB.

Amazingly, the Canadians allowed the Newfoundland 2019 (or Rust) crew into Canada yesterday. Clearly they must be desperate for tourists! Well, that and the fact that New Brunswick is so far from the Yukon that they probably still haven’t received word about our 2017 visit to Canada. Whew!

2019-08-05-sanford-me-saintjohn-map

My guess as to the route they took on Monday August 5th.

The crew started the morning in Sanford, Maine, at a Walmart Parking lot.

2019-08-05-sanford-me-newbrunswick-merlin-walmart

Beginning at the Sanford, Maine, Walmart.

68365362_10219063138785948_6148307046421757952_n

My guess is that the crew hit Highway One along the Maine coast line, then followed it to Bar Harbor. Now, if you are new to this adventure, you may be wondering, why doesn’t the narrator know what’s happening? Well, that’s because the crew’s phones are being jammed and they are unable to communicate with the rest of the Western Hemisphere … it’s the only possible explanation. So, I’ll make a few literary leaps …

I HOPE they got themselves a Lobster Roll, as great ones can be found all along the coast (the best one we found in 2013 was actually in Massachusetts). Even some McDonalds sells lobster rolls during the summer! Just don’t fall for lobster rolls that brag about their Langostino lobster (It’s no more lobster than Almond milk is milk). Here’s a lobster they may have seen in Bar Harbor.

This sums up much of the Maine we saw in 2013: Lobster, Lobster Rolls, and Ice Cream. We saw more signs for those three items than anything else!

From Bar Harbor, they likely followed the picturesque Highway 1 north to the border with New Brunswick. Fortunately, Merlin has saved me from using stock photos at this point, as he shared a few pics along the route:
