Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “FOR SALE. 1947 Willys Overland, CJ-2A, JEEP
Previous owners have made substantial investments in the restoration of this Jeep. The engine has been rebuilt and starts and runs like new. Compression is 125 PSI in each cylinder. Oil pressure in 40 PSI. Vacuum is 20”/Hg. Brakes have new cylinders and lines. Drums and shoes are in VG condition. Exhaust system is like new with surface rust. New parts include fuel pump and tank, oil bath air cleaner, etc.
At some point in time this vehicle found itself too close to a fire, resulting in blistered paint on the right front and side of the body and two melted plastic parking light lenses. The right front tire is blistered and charred and would be unsafe to use. The other 3 tires are truely like new. Glass cracked. The grill, front fenders and windshield frame are in remarkably nice, rust free condition. The tub, though it looks generally decent, and is quite serviceable, shows rust damage that has been “repaired” (covered up) in a substandard manner. The electrical wiring is new from the battery to the ignition system. The lighting wiring has been disconnected at the switch since some original wires are worn and frayed. Upholstery is, well, take a look at the pictures. Rear seat in good.
Examination of the drive train internals shows little ware. See transmission photo.
If you want a project Jeep where the big stuff is done, take a look at this one. Great potential. Your effort will add value to this classic.

“For sale. Old Willys jeep. Best I can tell it’s between 1946 to 1950. Has a buick V-6 in it. Looks like it would run. pretty clean. Haven’t tried it. Has a lift kit. New BFG mud terrains. New rims. Needs work. Has some rust, not too bad. looks to be pretty complete. Needs front drive line, and exhaust. Has power steering. I know nothing about it. Took it in as a trade. Look at the pics. NO title. Bill of sale. Last registered in 1997.”

Jeff Pranger shared the following two wonderful paintings by his father, Ed. Ed Pranger was a WWII US Navy artist and cartoonist for The Hoist in San Diego. According to Jeff, after the war, when surplus Jeeps were plentiful (and Ed was single), his father and his buddies would go hunting and drinking in their Jeeps in the Yakima, Washington, area. Ed produced many paintings and some had Jeeps.
Both of these paintings appeared to have been painted in Anacortes, Washington, one year a part (each has Ed’s name, the year, and the location it was painted on it). The first was completed in 1988 and the second in 1989.
It being a small world, I traveled through Anacortes (to catch the ferry) both of those years, as I was working in the San Juans in 1988 and then got married in the San Juans in 1989.

“With great regret, I’m selling my little jeep that has been part of the family since new. I ended up with it in ‘07 and did the transformation to what you see
It has a 1995 4.3 with 90k miles on it, Painless wiring harness, NP435 transmission with Dana 20 twin stick that’s been geared lower, Dana 44’s out of a Scout II with 5.38 gears. It has a Detroit rear and an ARB front locker. It has a power steering box from a Scout II, and Hydroboost from a CUCV.
It also has 14” Fox air shocks all the way around with 37” red label BFG crawlers. I have a brand new pair Of PRP seats that go with it, it already has PRP 4 point harnesses installed. I have a fuel cell for it that I never installed also.
It has a Warn 8274-50 winch, aluminum radiator, xenon headlights, cage is all 120 wall DOM.
It’s completely street legal, has been driven all over the place, it’ll get down on the trails. It has great street manners. 3 link front and 4 link rear with Ballistic Fab brackets everywhere.”

“I am selling my 1952 CJ3A Willy’s jeep. The jeep has been taken down to the frame and gone through. New brakes, brake lines, full complete custom wiring harness, all lights replaced, new clutch and throw out bearing. New body mount kit. The tub was rhino lined inside and underside. Motor was gone through around 2005. I put a new head on as the old one had a crack. Jeep is converted to 12volt. New hi torch starter, 12 volt alternator. The radiator was redone also. It also has a custom center console between the front seats that has CD player and a lockable box to secure things. It’s a nice jeep but it’s time for someone else to enjoy it. $7500 OBO. Blaine spotted this one. There appear to be two wagons and a truck that will be auctioned off. I could only find pics of one wagon. Lots of other junkers, too, including a Willys Aero.

What I know about this Jeep MB.
Bought from Camp Roberts, CA in the 1940s – between 1948 and 1950 – Army Surplus.
That owner had it until 1954 when he sold it to my friend Bill.

My wife says it’s time to clean out the garage and since the Willy’s mainly sits in the garage untouched, it’s probably time to let it go.

“1949 CJ2A painted military green, but it is a civilian jeep. It appears to have been maroon originally. The transmission, clutch, and transfer case have all been rebuilt. It has a new intake manifold, exhaust manifold and complete exhaust installed. It has the original “Go Devil” 4 cylinder engine. 6 volt system with no turn signals.
