UPDATE: According to the author in the 1964 Jeep News Vol. 10 No. 7, this article was published in the September 1964 issue of Trailer Life (I previously guess it was in 1963).
I bought a wagoner literature combo off ebay that included the “Test the ‘Jeep’ Wagoneer” excerpt from an unknown issue of Trailer Life Magazine that also included the early Wagoneer brochure on the post below this one. There are still two sets of these available for purchased the last time I checked.
The writer, Bruce Grantland, concluded that the Wagoneer was a new type of vehicle for towing, better suited to towing long distances in remote areas better than any other vehicle of the time.
This was purchased on eBay along with the Trailer Life excerpt showcased in the above post. To me, the art and color choices seem particularly good.
The caption suggests that this sniper could be in big trouble, as he was found shooting in civilian dress.

ON THE AXIOUS SEAT:
FRANCE — Perched on the radiator of a jeep, this worried German sniper in civilian clothes holds his neck as he rides to American headquarters after his capture near St. Sauveur Lendelin. There’s good reason for his frights, for under the rules of war he can be shot for sniping in civilian dress. 08/07/44).
UPDATE: **SOLD** I am told it went for $2000.
Given the lift and the rear PTO, there could be value here.
“Guess what? I have been asked again to find another new owner for another new sweet ride! Sometimes I feel like I must be dreaming! I am guessing from the split windshield, marked Willys windshield frame and head that she is a 1946-1949 Willys.
This forgotten gem has plenty of original parts that include the head from the original motor, fenders, hood, grill, PTO, fuel pump, driveshafts, exhaust manifold, gauges, carburetor, fan and more!
The Jeep itself is in very restorable condition, minus the motor, but transmission is still in it! Tires hold air, but are very weather cracked. It appears that the floor had been replaced at one time. Rolls freely, will come with Bill of sale only, no title.
The pictures aren’t there best due to low lighting and shows in some pictures as it being yellow it is not, she is white. If you need additional photos please ask and I will do my best to get them. If you are reading this ad it is still for sale! I will not reply to anyone only asking is it still available. Asking $2600 or best reasonable offer. Cash only no trades! Vehicle is located in Beloit”
It runs.

“Motor 4 cylinder, 3 speed stick. Ran before it was stored. Firm on price. No trades.”
On Monday we took our Pom-Schitzu mix ‘Zollie’ to Washington State University for a neurology exam. To our surprise, on the way out of Colfax we spotted an early Jeep Truck with a sign for Maple “K” Farms, a ranch that raised grass fed beef. They’ve been raising cattle for twenty years and sell direct from their farm in 1/4, 1/2 or whole selections. They are located on the east side of Colfax along US 195. The pics aren’t very good, as they are from Google Earth.
This Jeep ad claims everyone is happy with a new Jeep Station Wagon! The ad appeared in Greencastle, Indiana’s, The Daily Banner on April 05, 1949.
This “Gets to the Job… and Gets It Done!” ad appeared a couple times in the Sullivan Daily News out of Sullivan, Indiana. The ad below appears in the September 27, 1946, issue (and August 30, 1946)
UPDATE: Brian bought this frame and now has it for resale. Contact him for the price
THIS INFO ABOUT THE FRAME IS FROM A March 16, 2018, ad:
“THIS IS A FRAME FROM A 1970 JEEP CJ5 CAMPER. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I BOUGHT THE JEEP & CAMPER IN 1970 NEW IN SO. CALIF.
WE MADE A MOVE TO OREGON IN 1990 & I DISMANTLED THE CAMPER BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING BADLY & MY THOUGHT WAS TO BUILD A NEW CAMPER ON THE FRAME. I NEVER GOT TO IT. I SOLD THE JEEP A FEW YEARS AGO & NO NEED FOR THIS FRAME.
THE CAMPER WAS MADE BY EL DORADO CAMPERS IN RIVERSIDE CALIFORNIA. THEY MADE CAMPERS FOR PICKUP TRUCKS & THIS WAS EQUAVALENT TO AN 8 FOOT PICK UP CAMPER.”
Camper before it was dismantled:
This M-38A1 used to belong to the San Juan County Sheriff’s office.
https://westslope.craigslist.org/cto/d/durango-1964-kaiser-willys-m38a1/7026309174.html
“This M38A1 was owned by the San Juan County Sheriffs dept in Silverton CO for 35+ years,is part of our high mountain Colorado history. It was bought by a local in 2001 and remained in Silverton until now. I’ve watched this rig for the past 11 years and recently got my hands on it. With a family of 4, 3 dogs and a brand new house I dont know what the Hades I was thinking but at the time I had to have it. I have owned a lot of military Jeeps in the past, have had many M38A1s and know a good one when I see it.
This rig has a very nice Kelly hard top, converted to 12 volt, has the wrong seats in it but otherwise is very original and complete. There are very few “extra” holes, nothing has been hacked or cut up, body, floors, etc are extremely straight, rust free and would make an excellent restoration base or drive it as is. There is a matching spare wheel and military gas can in the back. The tool box floor is perfect as is the glove box floor. This Jeep has no real rust, is surface only, the mud is my fault, I live on a dirt road (see underside photos) The engine starts right up, no smoke, sounds good, brakes are good, shifts tight etc as you would expect with 8K miles.”
Has some updates and looks good on the outside. Needs some interior work.

“1961 Willys Wagon 4×4 runs and drives great. 283 Chevy V8. Recent investment of over $5,000 includes brand new: inner/outer axle seals, wheel bearings, hubs, brakes, drums, pads, brake lines, entire braking system, all components. Driven only 10 miles since work was done! The interior is not done yet but it’s serviceable and everything is there. Newer clutch, shocks, entire exhaust. Drive it away, or delivery is available. Some extra parts, and a complete second 1958 Willys also available.”
