Great action photo of a Ford GP.

1941-07-16-ford-gp-fort-bliss2

“1941 Press Photo Army lieutenants give new jeeps test drive at Fort Bliss, Texas. This is an original press photo. Fort Bliss, Texas. Under modern conditions of mechanized war, the once lumbering and awkward tank has emerged as a machine of many types and variations, from small steel speedsters to the huge 80-ton land battleships which flatten trees and grind buildings to powder. These have created new problems in defense, and Uncle Sam’s new army is not going to be caught napping in this department.

One outfit devoted to blasting the blitz battle-wagons is the new anti-tank troop of the First Cavalry Division at Fort Bliss. Formed only last January with 31 regular Army men, the troop now has 4 commissioned officers, 31 non-coms, and 121 men, all of whom are draftees from Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin. Most of the men have had mechanical experience working in automobile plants, which stand them in good stead in operating and caring for the scout cars and motorcycles with which the troop is equipped.

These pictures show the outfit in action during a recent tactical problem. Lieutenant Jack Berg (left) and Lieutenant M. M. Roland send one of the new jeep reconnaissance cars hurtling over a bump on a test drive. The baby blitz buggy is a Ford-built Bantam with four-wheel drive. Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches. Photo is dated 07-16-1941.

UPDATE: Price dropped to $7800. See a video of the jeep here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI7rbArxKxI

(07/31/2019) Sam’s former jeep has popped up for sale again, this time in Glendale.

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/cto/d/glendale-1948-willys-cj2a-artic-cab/7050080657.html

“Note: This vehicle will be on display at the 29th Arizona Military Vehicle Show held Sat-Sun 25-26 January 2020, Turf Paradise North parking lot. West Bell Road and 15th Avenue. Take Bell to 15th Ave and head south. Show will be be on right (north) side in front of Turf Paradise. 1501 W. Bell Road, Phoenix AZ. See http://www.armytrucks.org/mvshow.php for more info on the show.

Fun, running, driving and functional, but sold AS IS. 16,528 indicated miles, but overall mileage is unknown. 3 speed floor mounted transmission shifts well. All gauges and horn work.

Valuable accessories include a scarce cold weather fibreglass cab, towbar, Warn overdrive and lockout hubs gives a top cruising speed of 60mph. Turn signals, roof mounted air conditioning, defroster, Am/Fm and CB radio with mount and antenna, dual mirrors and extra stop lights for safety. New June 2019 battery. 2” receiver trailer hitch, dual G.I. type gas cans and spare tire with mounts included as well. A trunk, accessible from the tailgate, has been installed instead of a rear seat. The loose rear seat frame, comes with the vehicle.

This Jeep has a military history, supposedly being an Air Force “follow me” vehicle in Greenland, but this can not be confirmed. The body in good shape, not a rustbucket. A great running, practical, hunting, or fishing, classic, flat fendered Jeep. If restored with Air Force markings, it would be a scarce variation of a military Jeep.

$9600 – Sale by wire transfer (bank to bank) only. Call prior to purchase. Clear Arizona title. Sold as is. Non-Dealer private seller, so no sales tax. ”

3 Wagons Ft. Worth, TX $900-$1300/each

Seller has titles for all of them.

https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/cto/d/fort-worth-3-jeep-willys-wagons/7058445043.html

” have 3 Jeep Willy’s Wagons I’m trying to sell.
1 is a 1947 with no motor or transmission. It’s the one with the most patina rust on it. The floors are in great condition on this one and there is not really as much rust as it looks like. It’s mainly all surface rust.

3-wagons-tex1

The next it a 1955. This one would be a great rat rod. That was our intention on this one. We put a 318 v8 in it with an automatic transmission. It is not running. Now this one probably has the most rust. I do have all the windows for this one.

3-wagons-tex2

The last is a 1959. This one is the best one. It’s the green one. It is 4×4 but no motor or transmission in this one. This one would be a great restoration project. There is very little rust on this one.

3-wagons-tex3

My price range on each is from $900 to $1300 or I would even consider some trade offers or a package deal on all 3 of them. One more important detail on all 3 of these jeeps. I have a clear title to each one.”

Posts Delayed until Monday

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: I *think* I’ve found a workaround solution, as my main laptop is working once again. If you have 2011 Mac and have vertical lines (as seen below), you likely have a video card problem (aka the AMD graphics chip has failed). There’s a software strategy for working around that which you can find here.

I didn’t get much done yesterday, due to technical difficulties, so updates delayed until Monday. I spent a good deal of time replacing the motherboard on my main laptop, only to find out that the motherboard wasn’t the problem. Sigh. At least I have my 10 year old laptop still (and it still works pretty good).

It appears I will have to use a software hack to make the computer work properly again. So, that’s Sunday’s task….

The screen problems ….IMG_0674 IMG_0675 IMG_0676

Not good! I may end up purchasing another laptop. We’ll see how things go….

Newest Al-Toy: A Red CJ-2A

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

It wasn’t all bad news on Saturday. I now have a red CJ-2A Al-Toy (the one in the middle of the jeeps) to go with my tan Al-Toy. I got the red one for $50 (plus $20 shipping) with all the thanks going to Gayland for picking it up and mailing it to me. It needs one rivet fixed on the hood and one at the bottom of the steering wheel, but otherwise looks in good shape.

UPDATE: A revised version of the 4 Wheel Drive “How to” booklet can be viewed here.

I would guess this is an early 1952 booklet. The “W” shown on the back likely puts it after the big push in 1952 to shift towards the Willys marketing umbrella, but not late enough to list the 1953 475 model truck.
