Maury shared this odd part. It seems for a jeep, but neither of us recognize it. It is 2″ in diameter. I would guess the tabs on the back secure it to something?

“Wife or Girlfriend tell you your jeep addiction is getting out of control? Dont worry I found you a loophole. When she sees you bring this DJ-5 home she cant say you bought another jeep because gess what… Its an AM General not a jeep. Now your wheels are turning I bet. She will only be pissed for a little as your loophole technically works because she said no more jeeps.
Now for the good stuff. This baby here is a 1983 DJ-5 mail jeep. Shes got one seat already so when you piss the ole lady off dont worry your covered as she can never ride with you. This DJ-5 looks as good as it drives. Purs like a kitten and will get looks all over the place.
So the truth It is a 1983 DJ-5 Manual windows, steering and brakes All lights wipers and powered accessories work as well Has 4 cylinder, automatic 2 wheel drive with AMC 20 rear end.”
Listed as a 1949, it has the early grille. It may have been a column shift as well.

“Has original engine and drivetrain. 4 cylinder flathead engine 3 speed manual transmission, two speed high- low transmission with 4 wheel drive . Jacked up and put on jackstands and checked 4 wheel drive and it works. Frame looks solid with no new welds. The front half of body is real good shape the rear half has bondo. Engine has a little blowby but does not smoke, has 12 volt alternator that does not work, engine has good oil pressure. I do not have the original seats. Clear title in hand that matches the vin on the jeep. Comes with 4 military wheels and tires, the tires are weatherchecked, new exhaust and very good original gas tank. Runs and drives, drove it 1/2 mile last week. Needs brakes. If interested Cash only, not interested in making trades.”
It’s a project.

“Ive owned this for a long time and Ive always planned on restoring it but I have too many projects. It’s very solid with all the parts plus a lot of extras I have collected. Yes I have the Title! The only trades I will consider are for something thats obviously worth more and easier to sell”
Sounds like it needs work of some kind.

“Known as a rare “early” model, this particular civilian Jeep has the military tool indents on the driver’s side as Willys was making a running change from the military model to the civilian model. Later in that year those tool indents were deleted. Many new parts, too many too list. Jeep was kept mostly stock. This vehicle is a real head-turner and you will get smiles everywhere you go.”
This jeep was up for sale earlier this year. Somehow, I missed this David Tracy story about it on Jalopnik.

Front/rear PTO. New tiger top, runs excellent. Could use a steering gear box. Perfect for ice cream trips. Car shows. Or cruising”
This appears to have a replacement body (no cowl battery box lid). The grille and frame also don’t appear setup for an M-38 grille. The hood looks M-38.
“1953 Jeep Willys M38 with L-134 motor. This truck came from Vegas and the party I bought it from got it from Arizona where it was restored in the 90’s.
