Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Looks to me like this running CJ-5 has a plow and an overdrive. The faux battery box lid suggests this is earlier than 1965.

Blaine shared this CJ-5 Super Jeep for sale. As the seller notes, this has been rebuilt to some degree. It looks to me like the driver floor and box have been rebuilt, among other changes. Perhaps the seller has original pics of this before it was rebuilt, because I can’t tell if this was originally a Super Jeep or not. I do know the decals can still be purchased. Based on the Archive.org’s saved version of the superjeep.info website, it can be hard to distinguish a regular jeep from a Super Jeep.

“1969 cj5 all there very minor rust body is not perfect but killer patina and all there it’s got the dauntless v6, turns over freely by hand would probably run, 3 speed, dana 18 single stick offset 44 rear and closed knuckle 30 front. Comes with a very rough m38 for parts that has no motor in it. Both rigs are bill of sale only i bought the lot 3 from idaho and am building one up so id like to pass these two on to someone who wants a project as i have zero time right now. I expect the “Hercules” comment is supposed to read Hurricane. This includes a rear PTO setup with pto shield. Unclear if it runs.

It’s a shame to see this rare Hurst Edition Jeepster Commando. For someone who needs Hurst related parts, this might be an opportunity, but not a whole lot of value here. Based on the serial number of 68632, this is likely a 1970. On this page is a 66357 that has a production date of Feb 1970.

UPDATE: Barney added to this discussion. He had a customer who refurbed a military DJ-5.
Barney wrote: “Years ago I sold parts to a customer who had a military DJ5. He restored it to USMC tribute because it had been a Marine Corp vehicle. I have attached 2 photos. Note that it is left hand drive. He said they were used for base runabouts – messengers, delivery, etc. Obviously the graphics are not original but a tribute to his own service with the Corps.
I know the military used CJ5s stateside in the 70s and 80s and even in civilian colors as if they had got it from a dealership. Saw a 73 CJ that was and metallic green with a white Meyers hard top and a blue cherry on top as it was an MP Jeep at Fort Ord CA. I saw it patrolling the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey”

Gary shared this low-mile CJ-5, which rings in at 6,619 miles (assuming it hasn’t been run backwards). Given the overall condition, it seems probable that the mileage is accurate, though I’m surprised at the mods given its short work life.

“1967 Jeep CJ6 model and is pretty much original. Has the 4 Cylinder with the T98 four speed with a rear facing PTO output. Has a warn winch from the 80’s up front and the original Jeep hardtop. I am the third owner of it and have only added a new fuel tank to it and a BDS 2.5” spring lift with new shocks. Outside of that it is untouched since last owner. I have both the original Willy’s wheels as well as the cj5 renegade wheels that go with it. Runs and drives good just not fast. Issues I know of that it has: Surface rust on driver floor. Passenger door needs to be tinkered with can only be opened from inside. Rear seat is not on original brackets and needs cove Need to file for lost Title as previous owner lost it and I have never taken the time to go take care of it. Have all paperwork (registration and maintenance) from two previous owners dating back to 1977.”
This needs assembly. The engine appears rebuild.
