“Started frame up restoration, lost interest. The tub is in awesome condition, for being almost 70 years old. It is not rusted out. The small parts are done and painted. The floating Dana 44 rear diff is complete with new 5:38 gears. The Dana 25 front diff needs to be assembled. Comes with tailgate, windshield, and hood, also comes with the fully functional original trans and t-case, and a spare trans and t-case. Could be worth a look. Given the oil filter bracket, this may be a CJ-3A era engine.
“Here is a Willys Jeep Industrial engine that originally powered a welder. The welder was bad and scrapped. This engine is loose and turns over but I’ve never heard it run; it was supposedly running when the welder unit failed. Should make a good engine for parts or might be restored. Export Plate: The export plate that I am referring to has English, Spanish & French on it. I don’t know what its called. I simply call it the “export plate.” Pictures can be seen with this ad. The original export plate was damaged, so I paid to have it remade and it came out wonderfully. I have only seen this plate on 1 or 2 jeep (pictures) in Europe. I have not seen it in the USA. Rare. This February 29, 1948, article in the Salt Lake Tribune describes Utah Reserve Train Center’s rescue jeep, describing how it works with the new mobile radar truck.
I couldn’t locate a corresponding photo of this in a newspaper. The rig looks interesting.

“Vintage Las Vegas Nevada Sheriffs Clark County Jeep Posse Patch. Condition is “New”. Patch has not been used or attached to clothing. Background is brown and the embroidery is gold/yellow. Approximate patch dimensions: 4 3/4″ high x 4″ wide. It appears the Jeep Posse was an all volunteer unit under the Sheriff’s Office direction from 1952 into the early 1980’s when it was disbanded.”

Was on a Willys L head engine running a pump . I believe it fits all early Willys flathead and L heads along with continental engines and a bunch of other industrial 4 and 6 cylinder engines. Clutches are like new ring gears are really nice. Good to run sawmill generator pumps etc.”

Our good friend Boomer plans to do some snow plowing to help out his Minnesota neighbors. Rather than plow driveways (too much shit to hit, he says) he will open up all his neighbor’s curb cuts.
He’s snagged a Western plow blade attachment, but he still needs the blade. Does anyone have suggestions what blade length he should seek? 6′ or 7′ or 8′ or something else?

(Originally Posted October 21, 2010): It’s easy to forget about the logistical challenges faced by the military to cover simple needs of the military. Showering in the field is one such example. A New Zealand-focused site has a page on the history of mobile laundry and baths from 1914-1990. Canada also had similar mobile services. How frequently such services actually appeared in the field is less clear to me, especially given the lack of photos of this equipment.
Back in 2010 I came upon the model below, which appeared on a new defunct website. The site showed how the builder created the model mobile bath.
The builder, Dave, had based his model on the picture below. In his post, he notes that the Jeep “was stationed in Germany in 1945 with the 2nd Battalion, The Kensingtons, 49th Division, Transport Centre, Iserlohn, Ruhr“.
This 1954 example out of France shows a mobile laundry unit of some type. This photo (page from book?) is for sale on eBay. The auction title is “Jeep transport laundry collective”.
Maury spotted this unusual item. It’s pretty small. The starting bid price is $50. I’m not sure what the value should be; the seller isn’t all the sure either.

“Here we have an original ~ “OBSOLETE” VINTAGE KAISER-WILLYS GUARD HAT BADGE ~ that was recently acquired out of a Toledo, Ohio estate. I would imagine that this is a fairly hard badge to find. We could not find any other examples like it for sale. It measures approximately 1 7/8 inches tall by 1 3/8 inches wide. The over all condition is pretty decent with a few scratches from age and use and it does not have the little nut that screws on to hold it to the hat. Original untouched as found condition. Would make for a nice addition to any advanced collection.”
Thanks to Aaron for alerting me about these engine mounts. Ian Liljeblad, the builder of Big Willy, sells these L-head and F-head 134 engine-mount upgrades. They look like a good idea to me.
