“1948 willys jeep like new rubber runs and drivers good. Jeep has P.T.O. and soft top plow not included but could be if you want it. I have another set of rubber I could put on the jeep for 400.00 less”
Builds: Darryl’s 1943 GPW
As mentioned yesterday, here’s a quick look at the 1943 GPW Darryl rebuilt. He did some beautiful work (both in building and documenting the build). He also built a trailer (pics below as well). He lists his objective below:
“To create for my personal use and enjoyment, a fully-functional, factory new appearing and extremely accurate “representative” WWII jeep using a new reproduction tub on an original, all “F-script” Ford wartime-production drivetrain, while containing costs and allowing minor deviations (a Solex carburetor) from the original configuration for ease of maintenance, reliability and safety and to be driving it within 12 months of starting the project.”

1948 CJ-2A Warren, Mi $6000
The body has been placed onto a ’75 CJ frame, which means something had to be stretched (or the frame chopped) to make the body parts fixed. It appears the builder stretched the body at the point where the body normally meets the fenders. Meanwhile, it appears the hood was lengthened somehow (I can’t tell quite how).
“1948 Willy’s on a 1975 Jeep frame. 360 AMC V-8, lot’s of new parts & Brand new Best top. Run’s strong. Fred 586-822-8468”
1963 FC-170 Oakland County, Mi $1750
It looks like it has been in a barn. I can’t tell what the rust condition is.
“For sale or trade Barn find Parked in 1979 in a barn all orig w/new tires. Perfect for restoration”
1948 & 1949 CJ-2As Belleville, WI **SOLD**
I used to live in Madison and remember driving through the small town of Belleville. Given the lack of titles and the non-running condition, I suspect the price may drop.
“1948 and 1949 Willys CJ2A From Louisiana. Both are GREAT projects, not running, no titles, VERY SOLID!!!!! Most parts are here $2,000 takes both!”
1952 CJ-3A Wellington, NV **SOLD**

1942 MB/GPW La Place, La eBay
It looks like it needs a good cleaning, but I think it will clean up well.
“This Willys jeep was commisioned to Fort Polk. It had a rebuild in 1985.
Owner died in 1989 and the jeep was stored in a barn until four months ago.
I acquired it in an estate sale. Everything was said to be original when I bought it from the sale. As seen in the photos it is dusty from all the years being stored. The jeep was licensed and driving in the late eighty’s and has a clear title. I have extr tires, rims, and other parts that go with it. Any questions please call Mike at (504)417-4535.”
1963 DJ-3A Surrey St. Louis, MO **SOLD**
UPDATE: Was $41,500. **SOLD**
This might be the same one that was for auction on eBay.
“This 1963 DJ-3 has been restored to better than new condition and is beyond perfect in every respect. It is powered by Jeeps rugged little 134 cubic inch inline four-cylinder engine with three-speed manual transmission. More importantly it is festively finished in Flaming Pink and White with a Pink and White striped surrey top and spare tire cover. It is cheeky cute cheerful and fabulously restored.”
1955 CJ-3A Primm Springs, Tn $1000
I don’t see any major issues with the body. I wonder if it will take much to get it running.
“350 chevy motor, not running, good body, $1000 or trade, what do you have … I am posting for my dad. The best way to get answers to your questions is to call the following number… 931-698-1732 cell. Also, I don’t have any more pics right now. (can get some more this week) ”

Dino Danieli’s ww2jeep’s website
Back in 2002, or thereabouts, Dino launched a website he calls the “GPW – MB – CJ 2A/3A/3B – MC/M38 Visual Reference site.” It’s got some really useful visual information, including a dataplate page that I used tonight while reviewing a jeep. Unfortunately, it appears to have been last updated in December of 2006.
One of the coolest images I came across was developed by Darryl of Darryl’s Garage (see below). Darryl appears to love restoring old vehicles. He also documents those restorations wells. Two restorations he has done include a 1943 GPW and a 1943 Bantam Trailer (both of which I’ll highlight tomorrow). These are excellent overviews.
So, the image that Darryl created is a beautifully done chart that follows the changes, on a monthly basis, to the GPW and MB bodies. Nice work Darryl! You can see what he did below (and you can find it on Dino’s site here):
1966 CJ-5 Graham, Wa **SOLD**
“1966 Jeep CJ-5 factory stock Buick V6 and headers. Stock running gear 3.73 diffs. Running gear is intact and not broken. No bondo. No rust holes. Has not been wrecked. No frame cracks. Solid tub has been sand blasted bottom and inside. Swing away spare tire carrier. 6 point cage. Has been in my garage for 8 years. Ran and drove when parked. I began collecting new and used parts off and on with the intention of making a streetable rig. Good for some mild weekend wheeling. Some parts mocked-up on the chassis are GM Saginaw power steering with tilt column. AMC type rear mounted fuel tank includes filler cap insert (still has stock tank under seat). AMC type heater box. Other parts included are: locker spool for rear diff, GM (Blazer) front disc spindles, door frames, Rancho 1 1/2″ springs and shocks. 1″ shackles. Aluminum 15″ wheels. The Wife Hates IT Post Falls, ID **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD ** Was $6000
It’s unusual …. but he loves it.
“Custom made buggy that will go anywhere. I have used it in Moab rocks, AZ desert rocks, Colorado mountains, CA sand dunes, etc. 370hp 360ci mopar engine professionally built … My wife hates this thing, I will hate to see it go. I am asking 6k, but am somewhat negotiable. I would consider some trades such as an equivalent value 4×4 quad or a rhino, ranger, or prowler. I would consider a clean jeep as well. I have this machine at a storage yard in Post Falls. If I have time I hope to take it to Moses Lake this weekend to check out the dunes that are supposedly over there. They don’t sound like much compared to what this beast has seen before.”
New in Box 134 Piston Rings Gallup, NM $30
I have no idea what these normally cost, but figured someone might be interesting in them.
“New in Box set of 4007-std Perfect Circle piston rings will fit the F and L head 4cyl 134 willys jeep engine will ship priority mail for this price contact me at larryd@cnetco.com”
Older Warn Winch Durango, Co $250
This is one of the least expensive winches I’ve come across through Craigslist. It looks like dad’s old winch, which never failed us in 15 years of use.
“Old school, would be awesome for restoration on vintage 4×4, this is the winch that later became the famous warn upright 8274. It worked great when removed from 1964 Jeep CJ5 a year ago. $250 or will consider trade for f*re arms, canoe, aluminum boat willys jeep parts etc. ”
1946 CJ-2A Grand Junction, CO **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.
“This jeep sat for 15 years it has been converted to 12v. Put a battery in and some fresh gas fired right up
willing to bring halfway or all the way for a few more dollars. Email me or call me @ (970)230-0376 as you can see the paint aint the best was used for hunting 15 years ago and a half a** attempt at camo was done and the motor is a willys 4c but not the original for this year but still a willys motor”
1954 CJ-3B The Dalles, OR **SOLD**
This has some good upgrades (toploader 4 speed, Overdrive, tilt steering, 11″ brakes). I think this might be a pretty good price if the body is in good shape (which appears to be the case).
“For Sale; cj3b 2300 pinto engine, 4spd toploader transmission, warn overdrive, 11 in brakes, rancho suspension.”
1946 CJ-2A Ocean Shores, WA **SOLD**
The paint is a little rough.
“1946 Jeep. Stock Running gear. 76000 miles on odometer. Kayline top. L70-15 wide tires”
1981/71 VW Jeep Dublin, NC **SOLD**
This is the nicest ‘VEEP’ I’ve seen. The seller is incorrect about the body, as that’s obviously a M-38 body. As of this post the high bid is $3319.
“Up for auction is an extremely rare and fun Kit 2 wheel drive Veep. I absolutely love this little Jeep. It was built in 1981 using a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle donor car. The body is an all steel 1948 Willys CJ-2A. It was meticulously & professionally built by an aerospace engineer according to the information I have. The kit was designed by the Scamp corporation. You can tell this was done right in every way. Most people do not realize that it’s not an actualy Willys….”
Ya win some and ya lose some …
At the 4wd swap meet in March, my only purchase was a bottom cover for my TH-350 housing. I was assured it would fit a TH-350. I figured, for $10, it was worth a try.
I got it home, cleaned it up, even painting it. It looked like it should fit. But alas, no matter how many ways I tried to make it work, the holes didn’t line up. That will teach me to try something new (as in trying an automatic). So, my search continues ….. here’s a picture, for what it’s worth
1962 Willys Truck Laguna, CA **SOLD**
“Super clean restored with original parts (except for wheels and tires). Detailed “Hurricane 6” flat head motor with oil bath airfilter, in-line oil filter. 4 wheel drive with high and low ranges, and Warn overdrive. All new glass, hidden stereo/cd player, new interior. Garage kept for over 15 years. Not perfect but close. Interesting trades considered. “
Year? CJ-3A Kansas City, Mo $600
Given the windshield appears in good shape, I’d say this is a good price for this parts jeep.
‘rebuilt carb, new head gasket, needs distributer and should run. the tub is pretty rusty but other than that it is pretty decent for use off road or parts. Might consider partial trade for a stick welder, oxy-fuel torch or other welding equipment. “
1952 M-38 Bonney Lake, WA **SOLD**
“1952 Willys Jeep M-38 Buick 231, HEI Ignition, New flowkooler Water pump, GM 14 amp alternator, TH400 auto & Dana 20 out of Wagoneer, Centered Dana 44 rear, Dana 30 front Full rollcage and harnesses. Rollcage is now painted olive drab along with back tube bumper and star on hood. Also now has 31×10.5 tires on black spoke wheels.”
1953 M-38A1 Salton Sea, Ca $1800
Yeah, it’s been chopped a bit in the rear end, but it looks like there’s some reasonable parts there (nice full cage, tires and rims). I’m sure it would be a fun little runabout vehicle.
“First $1800 in cash takes it! Turn key and go 4 wheeling today! Updates on this vehicle are: Tilt wheel and power steering. 2″ suspension lift. 4 new large shocks- Over $1,000 invested in wheels, tires, and brakes. This jeep is low geared for desert fun. It’s really not for the road because of the low gears. It has a factory air compressor from the military and an air hose line to the bumper for filling up tires if you have to let the air out. New muffler and tail pipe. High back bucket seats with 4 point harnesses. Every thing works, lights, brakes, and spot lights. Rebuilt carb and 4cyl. motor with 4 spd trans. Comes with 372 page laminated service manual book and have clean tile in hand. Call Louis @ 760-395-0542 or cell# 541-217-9415 ”
