Today I ran across an Harbor Freight Ad for a tubing roller for only $139. That got me wondering if I could use that for bending too. So, I went did some searches on the HF tubing roller and read some pretty postive reviews for it in a variety of forums. That said, the bending radius is too big for rollcage angles and corners in most cases.
So, I did some additional looking around at low priced benders and notchers. As I went, I recorded some sites that I felt others might be interested in looking at.
One of the more interesting tidbits I found was a Tubing Coping Calculator that creates a 2 dimensional cutout for tracing around a tubing (in place of a notcher).

“This is a great restoration project for the right person in the (JEEP WORLD). It is an all original 1946 willy’s. It has the floor shift T-90 transmission, original dana hi-lo transfer case and the L-134 flat head four cylinder 60 hp Go-Devil engine.(It also has an ALLSTATE cab on it.) The bad, I do not have the title for it, but will give bill of sale to the one who wins this 1946 CJ2A, which are getting really hard to find. Thanks for looking and happy bidding.”
This sounds interesting. The seller claims this is unrestored (and maybe the seller just means it hasn’t bee pieced together). If so, it’s been well maintained.

I can’t tell if this is an early or a late ’46. It appears a bit rough and without matching tires.

“1946 Willys Jeep Siberia Civilian Style Cab and Frame. This is a great Willys, I built it bolt by bolt. I had a Chevy 350 in it and twisted the rear drive line pulling wheelies everything else is just fine though. I will sell the transmission and the T18 transfer case twin stick if you would like it for $450 more. So its your choice. This is a special willies because of its hard top. The body is close to perfect, but not painted. Everything is good on it, if you get the tranny all you would need is the rear drive line and engine and you will be ready for anything. This jeep never has been stuck in anything, it goes up and through everything. I added a heater in it so that you have defrost and heat, if you need it. Call me with any questions, I know everything about this Jeep, I built it, I”

I was searching for more extended CJ-2As and came across Bennett’s CJ-2A Project pages. The Serial Number is 71781. It appears he’s owned the jeep for quite some time and over the last few years has been slowly working on it.
“1946 Willys Jeep CJ2a soft top. – 23,262 miles. Runs smooth -Comes will dolly, spare tire, 5 gal gas can. -Hi lift jack holder. – $6400. – Call 805 340 2579 or email to see it.”
“1947 willys jeep civillian with tailgate. body in really amazing condition. this jeep is mostly original and is not rusted or rotten. the body is amazing condition. the drive train is amazing as well. the engine was exchanged for a buick v6. the original trans is still in place as is the overdrive unit! yes even the overdrive is there. a willys in this condition is almost impossible to find. the windsheild is the two piece design that was all original. under the fuel tank is even in good condition. title is clean. this willys is not running right now and was being meticulously restored by a very anal guy for years. there are still many things to be done, but the condition of this willys overall is amazing. it has been garaged kept until recently and we hate to leave it outside due to its great condition. so it is up for sale to a good home only.”
Jim and I had a few email exchanges about the extended flatties. After a little searching, he came up with these pics of a 1942 GPW that someone expanded and that Jim owned for a short time. It appears the builder was going to extend the front, though that looks pretty scary!
More discussion on extended jeeps tomorrow or friday.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay
This sounds like a pretty stock CJ-3A in good condition.
“NEW: Engine Overhaul; Trans Bearings (gears look good); Divider Box Bearings; Warn Overdrive; Exhause System; Elec Wipers; Tiger Top with doors; 30x 9.50 R 15 LT Radial Load Range C Tires; Updated 44 rear ends; Springs. INCLUDED: Original Vacuum wipers; Used Roll Bar; 2 Boxes Misc. Parts; Flywheel; T90 Trans with divider box warn winch tow bar”
This has a nice rollcage, and HEI distributor, v6 headers, and possibly a one wire alternator with the V-6. This might be a decent deal, especially if you have another tranny around.
“1943 Jeep Willys. Engine works, tranny doesn’t. Locked up. Was planning on fixing, but after a year and a half, haven’t. Jeep’s located 20 mins. east of Julian. Call me at 619-722-7065 for more information and a time to go see Jeep.”
It looks to me more like a M-38 rather than an MB. However, I don’t see any passenger side cutouts.
“A 1942 Willys Jeep,Red in color,a three speed,new brakes,tow bar And its in Exellent shape.4 cyl engine”
