1985 CJ-7 Masquerading as M-38A1 **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-7 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5400.

Located in Windsor, Rhode Island.

While this may be a fine jeep, claiming that, except for the longer length of a CJ-7, this is a ‘perfect copy’ of a M-38A1 seems a bit dishonest to me. Exactly what part of this jeep is a ‘perfect copy’ of a M-38A1?

“Up for sale is a Korean war era M38A1 1985 CJ7 MASQUARADE. Apart from the fact that CJ7s are about 8 inches longer this is a perfect copy. Its got a 5 speed transmision with the AMC 258 L6 motor and the 3.31 axel to gear ratio. And good 28′ wheels and tires. Only 130,000 miles on it (pretty low for a jeep) …. Military stuff: Comes with “lusterless forest green” high test military paint job as well as has “USN 023990″ painted on hood (yes the navy actually had more green jeeps then grey jeeps). Has military canvas seats, an authentic m38a1 dashboard (with all gauges hooked up and working, military black out lights and locking toggle switches (including blackout light, convoy lights and military rear and front light clusters). Comes with digital camo hard top and authentic jerry can and bracket.”

A PTO, transfer cases Colorado Springs, Co

• CATEGORIES: Parts • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This seller has a few different items for sale.

“Ramsey PT1-J Dual output single stick Power Take Off (PTO) for a Dana Spicer 18 Transfer Case (Xfer Case) connected with the drive lines and u-joints to a Koenig 8000# PTO driven winch with steel cable. Both have been drained the refilled with fresh fluid and all the grease Zerk fittings pumped full of grease.

This is a special order item for some CJ2A jeeps and is very rare to find in such good condition. The winch alone has been listed on Ebay for over a $1000. The PTO goes for over $150 for a rear output without the chain housing.

I also have a couple Dana 18 transfer cases and T-90’s if interested (not pictured) extra of course.

If you have a functioning Warn Overdrive for a Dana 18, I may be interested in trading. Also interested in other trades for equivalent valued items used for defense.”

Year? MB Spokane, Wa $350

• CATEGORIES: MB This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

It’s certainly not a perfect body, the outside does appear to be pretty straight and rust free.

“Willys MB $350.  Not sure of the year because the tags are missing but it is definitely military because of the lack of a tailgate, storage boxes behind the rear wheelwells, ax and shovel cutouts, and the 50 cal mount on the frame (my favorite part). Tub needs a new front floor but otherwise is in great shape. Includes tub, windshield frame, hood and frame with running gear minus the engine.”

Builds: Rebuilding the front of a CJ-2A

• CATEGORIES: Builds, How To This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

One item I often see on older jeeps are cracks, patches and general ugliness along the front 2 feet of the frame rails.  Sometimes, patching simply isn’t enough and an amputation/replacement is in order.

Over at Pirate 4×4, there’s some great pics of a rebuild that were posted during 2009.  Below are just a few of the many pics posted regarding this surgery.  If you want/need to do this to your build, I suggest you visit the site and check it out.

View all the pics and information here.  Here are some excerpts:

The Surgeon reports, “The front frame section was kinked I think from an incident with the tow bar hitting the ground at speed. It was like that when John bought it. The frame pointed at the ground and the front shackle lay flat against the front bumper meaning no suspension. I cut the fubared frame off and built a new section and front bumper out of 2×3 box tubing.”

The patient prior to Surgery, a 1947 CJ-2A:

pic1

Here’s a closer look at the problem.  Note how the frame still trends downward rather than traveling horizontal.

pic3

And, a closer look:

pic2

The front of the frame has been removed:

pic4

In this photo, you can see the new sections, build out of 2″ x 3″ square tubing that I would guess is 1/4″ thick.

And here’s another view:

As usual, the folks at the Israeli Bureau of eWillys have spotted another unusual vehicle.  I *think* this is a combination of a CJ-3A body, willys truck/wagon fenders/windshield, a cj-3a hood and grille, and some creativity.  But I could be wrong….

Update glitch — final update

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  Final word

After playing with this issue for days, I kept running into similar problems; no matter what code I used to create the submenu, it wouldn’t work.  For reasons as yet unclear, users that are not logged in can’t access the code to make the menu run.

So, I have a big reminder to people that automatically pops up on all subpages when users are not logged, reminding you/them to log into the site to view the subpages.  I’ve also reinstalled some side menu widgets as well.

Please let me know if you encounter any problems .. d@ewillys.com

– D

==============

I updated to the latest version of wordpress, which caused a couple glitches.  I’ve fixed most of them, but one strange issue is that when you aren’t logged it, you can’t see any sub pages.  Perhaps that’s been an ongoing issue about which i was unaware?

I’ll address this asap, but the front page works just fine.

Thanks,

– Dave

Classic Men’s Magazines & a Jeep Image

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Features, Magazine, Old Images This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

My jaw dropped as I opened the magazine.  I was in my early teens (mid 70s).  To this day, I’m unsure why my father hid a couple Playboy magazines in with my mother’s stash of old magazines (I’m guessing he never thought she would look there?).  But, sure enough, in my hands was gold, my eyes were big, and it was coooool!  And thus, that was my first introduction to Playboy.

I can’t say I’ve done much research into the history of Playboy, but during a search of vintage magazines in general, I came across a website called Stagmags.com, which appears to be a gathering and recording of many old ‘stag’ magazines that have since gone out of publication.  It’s a reminder that Playboy had plenty of competition from day 1, but to Hef’s credit, managed to successfully carve out a successful niche, while many others failed.

Now, I only bring this up as a segway to one of two images I found on the page and which you can view below.  Hopefully that provides a little more insight into the image.
