Jalopy Journal has a short thread with a variety of pics.  The wagon that caught my eye is shown below, a creatively constructed ‘party wagon’.  I love it!  There’s a few more pics of this at the website.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was  on eBay. Possibly a Porter & Reed hardtop.

Here’s a CJ-2A that has the spare tire on the driver side and the bow holders on the passenger side.  I see no evidence to indicate this was a military vehicle or a military ambulance.

“I am selling a 1948 Willys for a friend of mine.  It runs good, all tires hold air, and it’s fun to drive around the farm.  It has a clear missouri title.  He was told that it used to be a military ambulance.  I have posted several pics of it, but I can get all the pics you need, so just send me an email and tell me what you would like to see. I am starting the auction at the lowest price he said he would take for the willys, but if you want to make a reasonable offer I will ask him if he will take it.”

Reason #63 for a trip to Italy

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Museums, Old Images, Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Some of the folks over at the ww2talk.com website had a discussion regarding the Museo Storico Piana delle Orme – Latina (Italy).    The museum describes itself as a “historical theme park designed to accommodate one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world: planes, tanks, locomotives, wagons, radio, weapons and hundreds of military vehicles, agricultural tractors, threshers, trams and coaches, tools and thousands of objects of all types and sizes. Dedicated to the twentieth century, the Museum is a journey through 50 years of Italian history. 14 themed to tell the traditions and culture of the peasant, the great works of improvement, the Second World War but also to show the vehicles and means at the dawn of industrialization and great toys with which children entertained themselves.

For the purposes of ewillys, the highlight of the trip might just be the opportunity to check out these two modified flatties a little closer (ok, hopefully we could find many more highlights as well!)

In the foreground, we have a MB that has been converted into a tow truck.  Behind, and to the left, is a jeep with a water tank(?) on the back of it.  Maybe a water transporter?  This photo was taken by “Captain Bill”.

Anyone know anything about these trucks?

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Features, Old Images, Willys Trucks • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Doing some research on Warn hubs this morning, I ran across this image on Warn’s corporate website.  This may very well be  the original Warn Motor’s Service station in Seattle, Washington, where Arthur Warn developed his early ‘Summer Hubs’ as Mike refers to them.  Note the signs atop the roof, “Jeeps”  and “Warn Motors”.

If there were just one of these trucks, i would call it a custom one-off project.  However, two of these suggest to me this was a kit of some kind?  It kind of looks like the prototype for the Willys we have named a Tender.

I wish I had found a complete picture of this truck from Camden, NJ, but it appears we’ll have to make due with a partial image.  I think that’s supposed to be a wooden typewriter on top. Here’s the original link.

“Sitting on the wall are Mr. Robison’s nephews and niece, Tony, Annamarie and Joe Di Paola Jr.
In the background, parked on the Haddon Avenue side of 964 Pine Street is the Willys truck belonging to Robison’s Typewriter and Cash Register Repair.”

1948 CJ-2A Plymouth, WI **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $16,000.

The seller claims this is an AgriJeep.  In his book Preproduction Civilian Jeeps, Frederic Coldwell makes a convincing argument that despite filing for the trademark Agrijeep, and the use of the name Agrijeep on the CJ-1, Willys Overland quickly abandoned that trademark to focus in on the trademark Jeep for CJ-2’s and CJ-2A’s.  Note: there might be some debate to this based on some of the websites I reviewed – some believe the CJ-2 is an Agrijeep as well.  While I’m not in a position to provide any input into that debate, I would still review this seller’s claim cautiously.

“Rare 1948 Agri-Jeep, power take off, 3 point hitch. Only three prototypes made. Factory aluminum plate is 2 inch x 3 inch on the frame in back”

David Boyd, Jr’s Willys Painting

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

David Boyd, Jr,  is a high school art teacher and self-syndicated editorial cartoonist, but also describes himself as a painting addict.  In his painting titled ‘South Georgia Willys Jeep’, shown below, which has already sold, the artist appears to have captured what I think is an early CJ-2a, a claim I make based solely on the turn signals.   Here is a gallery of his non-jeep paintings hosted at dailypainters.com.   You can email David @ rdboyd2@mac.com.  David has another Willys painting that he completed a few years ago.   Great work David!

1937 Ford House Car — an early motorhome

• CATEGORIES: Unusual This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Dave forwarded me some information about this unique Ford House Car.  A quick search revealed this website with a full collection of images by the previous owner of the vehicle (he sold it in 2001 according to the site).  I’ve included a pic below and some info below.  Thanks for sharing Dave, it’s cool!

“One of only six said to have been made per year in the mid-’30s at the Ford Plant in St. Paul, Minnesota, according to an article on this car in a 1993 “Old Cars” magazine article (see link below). Very few others–perhaps none–remain on the road, and certainly not in such amazing original condition. (The only other known example that I heard of was supposedly housed in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. But that turned out to be an early 1920s Model T conversion, the curator told me. He said he’d never seen anything like this ’37!).”

Man Made rebuilds an offroad car (well, technically it’s a car/boat)

• CATEGORIES: Unusual, Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Simon forwarded me a link to a show called Man Made. I haven’t seen an episode yet, but the video introduction below looks intriguing.

Simon reports, “I’ve only seen two episodes but its about a guy who locates barn finds and restores them for selling at auction. So far its covered an amphicar and Camero (no jeeps!) but its a great program to watch and see how a professional goes about restoring classic cars. He’s not been so successful on the profit front mind you – the amphicar didn’t sell and he lost money on the Camero”

Wanted: Willys Truck Expert

• CATEGORIES: wanted This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This truck owner says he has the 401st 4wd truck ever made.

“Is there someone around who used to work at the Willys Overland plant in Toledo that could answer some questions? I have a ’47 Willys Overland pickup truck that I want to restore to its original condition and want to do it correctly. It was the 401st 4wd pickup built. I’m trying to find information on available paint colors, proper air cleaner, upholstery choices, etc. It’s easy to modify an old vehicle, and I’ll do that with something else. I want to see this one done right. I’m sure there are some proud retirees in the area that remember building these unique historical vehicles. Thanks. Steve”
