Or forwarded this Israeli video that includes some great shots of early experimental CJ-2 flatties. Check out from :59 seconds until 2:18. Watch a Willys wrangle cows and more ….
Colin provided a couple updates. He’s got a new top for his Surrey and his son, Lee, got their CJ-2A project running for the first time.
Colin writes, “I had a new top put on the Surrey. Here are a couple of photos of it. I also attached a couple of photos of our project 1952 CJ3A that is nearing completion. It has a CJ2A windshield and is now 12V with upgraded larger 11″ brakes. It still has the L-134 4 banger, but also sports an electric winch, custom built rollbar and custom bikini top. These were taken the first time we fired it up..it ran like a Swiss watch!”
A reader named Stephen is feeling quite Merry about this year’s Christmas after purchasing a CJ-2A project. Good luck and keep us updated!

YEAR:
I wasn’t certain of the year when I registered it with MVD. They guy I bought it from only had a Canadian title with no information. I guessed it was a 1945. I did a little more research and after talking to a few guys from g503.com, we determined it to be a 1943. Instead of dealing with MVD again, I just left it as is.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
I’m not sure this will be an ‘easy’ restoration, but this does appear solid.
“THIS IS AS RARE A FIND AS YOU CAN GET. WILLYS JEEP FORWARD CONTROLS PICKUPS WERE A PART OF AUTO HISTORY. THEY MADE GREAT SNOW PLOWING MACHINES AND WOULD GO ANYWHERE YOU WANTED TO GO WITH THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. A LADY FARMER USED IT TO GET AROUND HER FARM IN HILLY AREA OF WISCONSIN AND ONLY QUIT DRIVING WHEN THE BRAKES QUIT WORKING. ENGINE RUNS GREAT AND IT ALL WORKS. THE BODY IS NOT ALL RUSTED OUT, YOU CAN SEE ONE CUT IN THE LEFT REAR FENDER WHERE SOME RUST MADE IT WEAK. OTHER THAN THAT IT HAS SOME LIGHT SURFACE RUST BUT OVERALL IT WILL BE AN EASY RESTORATION PROJECT FOR SOME LUCKYU WINNER. OR JUST USE AS IS. THE PHOTO’S SHOW THE DOOR TOPPS ARE OFF BECAUSE I AM GETTING NEW GLASS MADE FOR IT. ALSO WE HAVE LOTS OF SNOW SO TAKING PHOTO’S IS HARD RIGHT NOW.”

(12/13/2010) This seller provides a detailed overview of what he’d like to get and the pluses/minuses of the jeep.
“I know times are tough on every one now, so I thought I would set this out for a trade or sale to see what would be offered. I am looking for a NICE aircooled (pre-1980) VW Bus, Camper, Thing or Beetle. It will have to be NICE. I am also interested in a good late model passat stationwagon or Jetta 4 door, or NICE new beetle. I am a VW guy so I know what to look for, so no junk please. Any thing else, just let me know. I am not interested in any money from my end, but I’ll look at trades + Cash.
WOULD ALSO TRADE FOR A NICE MEDIUM SIZED TRACTOR (DIESEL, KUBOTA SIZED) AND IMPLEMENTS.
Ok about the Willys:
-Paint is GREAT (original color)
-Has a new Gas tank, and Tool box.
-Upholstery is great.
-Has a great Bestops top and new bows.
-Has a brand new Heater (aftermarket, w/ blower – needs the hoses ran, but the switch and power are all hooked up.)
-Has a GREAT aftermarket Tub (NO RUST).
-Has the original L134 Flat head engine, runs well.
-Has fairly new Kuhmo 16” 7ply AT tires with tubes on OEM rims.
-Trannie is supposed to be rebuilt as of 7K miles (new clutch at that time).
-Is 12v with the High torque starter.
-115 PSI on all cyl. / 12 PSI oil @ idle with hot oil (20 w/ cold).
-Front Disk Brakes – NEW Hardware. Back Brakes – New hardware.
-Has new front headlights and tail lights, WITH TURN SIGNALS!!!
In the past Month:
-New plugs, oil, oil filter, adjusted valves.
Comes with:
-New front pulley, current one works, just has a bent spot.
-New engine gasket set (head, side, intake / exhaust, water intake…) New oil pan gasket. – bought and never needed.
-New fuel pump. Has an electric one installed now that works, but in case you wanted to go back to an OEM look.
-Has a 1 wire Altenator and all new wiring.
OK, there are not alot of “bads”, but here they are:
-It leaks oil. not alot, but around the oil pan at the front it drips. not alot, but it will “mark it’s spot.” It has a few other “drips”, but nothing other than a light drip every so often .
-It needs a front driver’s hub oil seal. This is the one that goes around the ball that the stearing turns on. – This leak is pretty good and should be addressed before going of road.
-Engine is LOUD, it has a small exhaust leak (seal blown at exhaust manifold at down pipe…)and sounds like an old engine. This ain’t a modern car. If your expecting a 2009 TJ, this ain’t it.
(engine has great Oil Pressure and has good compression…)
-Engine could use new points / condensor. I do not use points on my VW’s, (Petronix) so I hate messing with them. I have set the points and it runs good, but the timming light is jumpy about 3*.(New Distributor with petronix = $125 and never worry about it again….)
Any way it is a GREAT looking / Running Jeep that has lots of potential.
Not alot of Flat fender Jeeps around and not a lot that are ready to get in and drive.
I have been Honest in my presentation of this Jeep, please be honest in your descriptions of your trades. This will save us both some time.
Thanks,
KC

I have more photographs, but do not waste my time.”
It seems Santa had to turn to an Orange CJ-2A to complete his duties last night. I’d like to give credit for the brave soul who snuck out and captured this photo; however, the reader(s) didn’t leave their name. (Actually, this photo came in from two different email addresses, neither of which had a name). I guess they were concerned they’d get some coal in their socks?
We’ll just call this wiki-leak-like photo a Santa-Leak!
One year, I wrapped all the presents using gold and silver aluminum foil into all kinds of shapes. Another year, I wrapped presents using only recyclable materials. This year, I made some jeeps and cars :-). As you can see, I don’t take wrapping too seriously.
Happy Holidays All .. I’ll have my kids for the next week (starting tomorrow morning), so updates will be occasional and arbitrary.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2700
“Reduced $500. 1947 Willy’s CJ2A. I purchased this jeep about twenty years ago. 4 cyl L-134 engine starts and runs good. Converted to 12 volt. Rebuilt Starter. Tires are balanced and ready for you to drive home with no bumping. Next project is to repair minor rust, sand and paint. Just arrivedsd still in the box. 2 new Smittybilt lowback seats ready to be installed”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $650.
This is a rough CJ-3A.
“Selling a 1952 CJ-3A. I bought to use as a plow jeep for the parking lot but no longer need it. It runs and drives. four wheel hi and low work. Brakes dont work. The insulated aluminum artic top is in great shape. There is a dent in the back corner, the window glass is all intact and the windows slide open easily. There doesnt appear to be any cracking that I can see at the corners or roof which is common. The data tag on the drivers door can be clearly read. The tool box bottom has a sheet of aluminum over it so it looks better from above than underneath. The tub is in very rough shape. It comes with extra parts shown in pictures.”
Here’s a modified truck that looks pretty good.
“1948 Willys pickup built on a 1985 Ford Bronco II. Ford 2.8 liter V6 with power brakes and power steering. 4WD, 4 speed manual, sun roof. Since earlier listing have had frame welded and replaced bucket seats with a bench seat, making it much more comfortable for taller drivers. Recently had engine tuned up, new starter and fuel pump. Less than 1700 miles on front brakes. Starts and runs well. Single owner, clear title. Actual mileage unknown.
This would is a good hobby truck that technically doesn’t need anything, but could stand some improvements here and there as time and money allow. Paint is fair, with a few points flaking off, especially on the roof. Tires are fair and not in need of immediate replacement, but a new set of larger wheels would look better. Previous owner created wood tailgate, but the original Willys tailgate is available – it is solid but needs work. The wood pickup bed could be replaced. The radio is old and should be replaced along with new speakers. Carpet is OK but eventually could be replaced, with floor / firewall insulation added. Doors could be better aligned and have weatherstripping replaced.
The truck has vintage, rugged Willys looks but with more modern amenities. I am only selling because I bought another ’48 Willys truck. No trades.”
Lots of parts.
“Two 1946 Willys: $2000. One is unassembled and complete except for motor and seats. This one had a small block chevy at one time, frame is boxed and mounts reinforced. The assembled one is complete except for seats. There are three windshields frames between them. One good title. Trailer not included. $2000 OBO 916-717-7290”
The seller must sell this project.
“Nice jeep, a bunch of custom stuff done to it, new paint, ok tires, looks likenew diamond plate all around, roll bar, custom red eucaliptus wood dash, ( very nice) and new VDO guages. new pertronix ign. new carb, orig 4 cyl engine, runs nice. needs to be finished. bill of sale only, car is clear and out of system. can’t finish, losing home and must sell. Open to offers but don’t be an idiot. thanks”
