Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. UPDATE I From July 11/2021: This video was shared by the Goddess herself, Deborah. It used the 1954 Willys Export Company’s brochure as the lens through which is shows the variety of jeeps in this movie clip (in color no less). You can learn more about the various forms of this brochure below. This brochure did not have a form number.

Originally posted January 12, 2020: As noted by Edgar Kaiser in 1955, one of the key reasons Kaiser bought Willys’ assets was that Kaiser didn’t feel Willys-Overland was pursuing the consumer market aggressively enough. As a part of Kaiser’s strategy to move that direction, the company created a wide variety of brochures, folders, direct mail pieces, product booklets, post cards, a Jeep family 16mm movie, and other merchandising materials.
Much of these documents have been scanned and available on the internet, but no one (that I’ve seen) has assembled them together to see what items were available at the time the CJ-5 launched.
So, consider this a draft towards that goal, as I still have some more scanning and locating of documents so I can interlink everything together.
To begin, here is one of the earliest examples of the Kaiser Willys team creating a standardized family of similar brochures that highlight each of the models. Nearly all the first wave of documents were created in 1954. How do we know this? Because the January 1955 Kaiser Willys Sales and Dealer News highlighted these merchandising aides:
Here’s an order form from 1955. It’s form numbers for the ‘vehicle folder’ brochures match those shown in the photo below this order form.
Here’s a photo from an ebay post that shows all the vehicle ‘folder’ brochures together (the form numbers I have for the vehicle brochures below match the numbers on the order form above). I only have 7 of the 10 brochures, or I’d take a photo of my own like this.

(11/28/2021) This is part of or from an estate sale. It’s a unique build.
“Street, strip or sand, this 1952 Willys is ready to play! While the clean title, which I have in hand, says it’s a 1952 Willys, I believe only the chassis, which has been boxed, is original. Blueprinted Aluminum GM V8 406ci/7.0l block. Aluminum Dart heads. That’s hooked up to a cutch-Turbo 400 transmission with scatter shield controlled B&M Pro Ratchet automatic shifter attached to a 3/4 ton 205 transfer case. Custom built heavy duty drive shafts to professionally built 35 spline axels. Dana 60 with locker and 5.08 gears in rear and Dana 44 with 4.88 gears in front. Street tires are brand new. Sand tires and wheels are also new. Extra set of wheels included if you want to mount slicks!
The rig is up and running/stopping but should be gone through before pushing it hard. It was parked for several years in an Arizona garage. Was plated in CA. Has break lights, headlights, turn signals. It’s an estate sale. Really cool, but not my jam. Trailer with tire rack available.”
Ben spotted this running Jeepster that needs some more work. Note the “hinge” gas pedal. The seller has two other Jeepsters he’ll be posting for sale at some point.
“Jeepster with running 4 cylinder 134cu.in flathead original engine and three speed with overdrive transmission. This is not a restoration. It runs (sounds good), works in all gears, (I do not know about the overdrive) has a new paint job. There is a new-inbox top and the bumpers have been re-chromed. The upholstery need to be redone with the proper padding. The rust is present but light for this type of auto. This is a great Jeepster to restore or make a car for cruising the foothill or your neighborhood. Title is in my name as non-op.

Original T98 Four Speed transmission.
Rear axle is stock Dana 70 with powerlock.
Front 44 has been gone through.
All new brakes.
Have seventh wheel for the spare.
Very little rust especially for an FC.
Clean Washington title in my name.”
It’s not currently road worthy, but it does have some interesting mods. The mod at the very rear appears to be a gas tank. I suspect the cargo area may be an animal cage of some type.

“This is my 1946 cj-2a project, it’s got 7k original miles, the body on it is pretty straight and the drive train is still good, and the engine is pretty seized considering it was sitting for a good while before we got it, comes with towbar and a wench so it’s ready to go Will trade for motorbikes, running cars/trucks, and freedom seeds Please message me if u need more pics or more info”
“This is either a CJ2A or a CJ3A or may be a mix. It is a project that I have stalled on…
Frame and engine are in good shape, the engine turns over, is not seized. Has new brake lines and includes a new carburetor. All Jeep parts in the photos go with it; muffler, exhaust pipe, radiator, all body parts, drive shafts, steering assembly, etc. As with most of these Jeeps, the body (tub) is fair to poor.”
“Everything is factory on this runs and drives factory PTO with blade .needs new leaf springs in the front,shocks have all been replaced. Price is firm please no messages after 10 pm won’t answer until morning thank you. Oh it is not mine I’m helping a neighbor.”
This modified CJ-5 has an extended rear. The seller is unsure of the year, but it seems most likely a mid 1960s CJ-5 given the lack of a tailgate stamp and no faux battery box lid.

(01/10/2022) Listed as a 1946 CJ-2A, this seems to be a DJ-3A chassis with an unknown body. Then engine manifold appears to be DJ as well. The serial number plate has the DJ-3A prefix, but the second set of numbers aren’t readily viewable as if the plate had been changed.

(03/02/2022) Nate’s uncle has this FJ-6A for sale.
“This van spent its early life in Honduras as a diving instructor van, then made it’s way to WA where it has been since the mid ‘70’s. Actual mileage is unknown. It does not have an engine but is currently set up for a 327 Chevy v8 and a Chevy automatic transmission. It comes with what is believed to be the original manual 3-speed transmission. It also comes with a 4×4 Jeep transmission though it doesn’t have the 4×4 axles. As seen in the photos, some of the glass is broken. The body is in decent shape and it in good structural condition. The front grill also comes with it.”

Bill shared this article that describes this custom build as a 1948 M38. However, it’s appears to be a modified CJ-2A. It’s an interesting build, but calling it one of the “greatest flat fenders ever built” is a stretch (in my opinion).
