I’m still catching up on emails, so if I haven’t responded .. that’s why. We had some internet issues tonight. Unfortunately, I can no longer blame the Canadians for that.
As promised, finally, below are pics of the 1942 GPW. We were driving down a street into Friday Harbor when I felt the jeep beckon to me through the glass. Naturally, none of the driver’s behind me minded when I stomped on the brakes and veered violently to the shoulder for an emergency stop. In fact their salutes to me seemed quite friendly, but they seemed in a hurry cuz they only had time to wave with one finger …. there’s more to the story, but I’m tired so that’s it for now.
Note the windshield extension that allows the use of a CJ-3A top.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
“This is a very clean, well restored, and well running CJ2A. You don’t see them like this very often. I hope I look this good when I’m 64 years old! Complete body off restore done in 2001 and garaged full-time since then. Driven occasionally in parades or short trips around town since then. I tried to keep everything original. It’s been in the family since before I can remember but it’s time to pass it along to someone else who will baby it.
Original flat head engine. Engine has been started regularly and runs great. Starts on the first crank every time. Doesn’t burn oil or leak. Belts and hoses are good. New radiator keeps engine nice and cool. Engine compartment is clean, no rust or corrosion, and everything is easy to reach. Manual choke. Foot starter. Starting the jeep by hand is very fun with the hand crank starter (included). Manual 3 speed transmission plus reverse. Odometer reads 1335 miles but I have no idea if that is accurate.
Jeep has been converted from 6V to 12V. New battery, new 12V generator, new wiring harness (every wire in the vehicle is new), lights and gauges are all new or originals that work fine, driver’s side heater with electric fan and on\off switch, high \ low bean foot switch, dash panel light. New headlights and brake light.
Body is in good shape. This is the original tub which was removed and new steel welded in to repair all existing damage. Front and rear floor boards are completely solid with no rust (unusual in jeeps this old). Tool box is clean and dry. New gas tank. Side mounted spare. Frame and underside was sandblasted down to metal, all damage was repaired and repainted. Shocks and springs are good. Drive train is solid. Brakes work well. Rubber floor mats fit floor boards well. Good solid roll bar. Jerry can mounted on rear.
Most rubber is new and in good shape. Window tie-down belt secures the fold-down window in place when its down. Wood blocks on the hood support window when its down. Pneumatic windshield wiper motor (missing the blade) works using engine vacuum. New heavy canvas from Beachwood Canvas Works with no tears anywhere. Seatbelts added front and back to make it legal.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $650
“Unusual old Jeep cab-over truck – mid-to-late 50’s early 60’s vintage. She’s not pretty but frame is solid, everything turns, price is for the complete rig, motor tranny and all. Tires are in decent shape and holding air. There’s also a plow frame on it. E-mail with questions or call 603-209-6817 and leave a message.”
It needs a little work, but looks pretty good.

“1948 Jeep Willy CJ2A — odometer reads 60383 miles — New Exhaust Pipe, Muffler, Tail Pipe, Carburetor, Master Cylinder, Fuel Pump, Wheel Cylinders and Brake Pads, Rewired. Hard to start at times, but runs good when started frequently. Driven on road in 2010. Garage kept since I have owned. ”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $750.
Unclear if it runs or not.
“I have a CJ-2A Jeep which I think was built in 1942 – 1945? I’m selling this for my father. As you can see there’s a fair amount of rust in the body so it’s maybe a good vehicle for parts. The engine looks to be a 4 cylinder and it has a manual transmission. No current registration but a bill of sale will be provided at the time of sale”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500.
“1946 is the first year Willys manufactured the civilian jeep. Over 65 years young. Why not own a piece of history? Classic cars grow in value every year. This jeep was used as a gentleman’s grove jeep for many years.
Areas in the floor boards can use some welding repair, overall good condition. Jeep is titled and insured for street use. Runs great. Transfer, gear box, hubs operate perfectly. Spare tire / same as the 4 on the jeep. Spare parts include steering worm and pinion, new oil filter, rear shocks, new in box. Seats covered in green leather and seat belts added. New brakes, including all cylinders and hoses. Serviced September, 2010 ($1,600.00), bill available for inspection. Used little since. Garaged. Needs speedo cable. Amp wires reversed shows neg (-) instead of pos. (+)”
UPDATE: Steve notes this is a scam and this sold a few months ago. He also notes that LSD-30 was a Navy ship and the LSD stands for Landing Ship, Dock.
The price is a bit high. I think the description explains a lot.
“Need to sale to buy my jeeps”
UPDATE: The price has dropped to $7500
(06/28/2011) This is an unusual FC.

The price seems a bit high for a project, but the story sounds intriguing.

UPDATE: Laundry, lunch, done .. now for updates.
(from Thursday ) I went jeeping in a ford mustang for a couple days and got stuck on a faraway island with only canadian wireless. It turns out those crazy canadians dont want to share their wireless cheaply. We are talking dollars a minute in international charges. So, while i love you all, i dont love you that much 🙂
Even in this remote, faraway place, my intrepid jeep instincts didnt fail me. I spotted gpw #4484 (or thereabouts) housed in a glass paned garage no less at a house for sale. No one was home so we let ourselves in to take some pics. It even has an interesting winshield mod.
I will return to the real world late tonight with some updates and pics of the gpw i found.
A reader plans to buy a CJ-3A body kit for his 1949 CJ-3A. He was leaning towards either Morris 4×4 Center or Willys Overland. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with a full body kit purchase?
Warren forward this fun link. Click on the pic.
According to the website that holds the panorama, “This is image was taken in Circasia Quindio Colombia. Its the place where the cattle is sold every weekend. It is also a place where all the farm people go and sell vegetables and meat. The Fire Department is located there. The jeeps are the famous Willys that take people into the mountain to work their farming.”
UPDATE: Brandon visited this museum recently and files the following notes, “The museum’s collection includes Ford GP #1, Bantam BRC-40, Willys MA, GPA, slat grille MB, GPW, and M38.”
The Veteran’s Memorial Museum in Huntsville, Alabama, houses three early jeep prototypes.
From the Website, “The Museum displays more than 30 historical military vehicles from World War I to the present, as well as tableaus, artifacts, and other memorabilia dating back to the Revolutionary War. Supporting organizations include the 19th Alabama Infantry, which sponsors exhibits from 18th and 19th Century conflicts, and the 8th Air Force Historical Society, which sponsors a Bomb Group briefing room. Both of these organizations support ‘living history’ presentations at the Museum.”
There appears to be a Bantam BRC 40 in the back, a Ford GP to the far left of the photo, a Willys MA just to the left and another Ford Pygmy to the right. I haven’t found any other info that describes what the museum has. Anybody been to this museum?
Here is a closeup of the Ford Pygmy from the museum site.
In case you plan a trip to North Korea, you won’t have to leave behind your love of Willys, for the War Museum in North Korean Museum has a captured one there. http://www.travelthewholeworld.com/northkorea.html
This appears DJ-3Aish to me. This is probably a mish mash of parts.
