There is no vin plate for the Replitub, you would need to apply for a VIN/Serial Number through the State (Utah TC-162 Application Form) in order to road register this after you build it. Alternatively, it could be build as an Off-Road vehicle without that process. I would be happy to assist you with that process if needed. I have a poilce VIN inspection for the Jeep stating that no VIN was found on the tub or the frame by the officer”

1974 CJ-6 Coudersport, PA $20,000

• CATEGORIES: CJ-6 • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Marty shared this customized CJ-6. He confirmed this was built in Pennsylvania. Both rear axles are drive axles, though one new carrier bearing is needed. The large side windows suggest the Meyer hardtop was modified, too.

“his is a 74 CJ5 extended to include a third axle. Runs rough at the moment but drives amazingly well. It is powered by a 79 small block 350 which makes this Jeep scream down the road. Very well built all original look steel interior and exterior no fiberglass. Has a stretched and modified steel hard top wrapped in vinyl and a steel half cap included but not in great shape. Also includes the tan bikini top for warmer driving. In the opinion of mine and others (mechanics) this is a very well built rig and can be left as is with minor work and still a one of one head turner in the world!! Needs a carrier bearing on the mid axle rebuilt to drive the rear axle and with that is a live three axle Jeep. Will consider trading for; Scouts, Range Rover, Land Rover, Land cruisers 43,45,or 47 Ford Bronco, Jeep CJ6, CJ8-Scrambler, pretty much anything old cool and definitely 4×4!”

There’s a lot of early jeep here. The 0-8 KS speedo has the orange needle; I’m not sure why some are white and some are orange. This also has an early top that looks in good shape and a set of early, period correct even, Free-Lock hubs. It still has the reversed front shackles, too.

Nate built this custom-purpose CJ-5 from parts.

“This 1966 cj5 came to me in very rough condition. No engine or transmission. The tub was falling off and the windshield glass fell out on the way home because the windshield frame was all rotted out. I pieces it together from parts I could find cheaply and it turned out to be a really tight Jeep now. Still a work in progress with more modifications to come.”

Civilian 1/4 Ton Low-Hood Grilles

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This post ran in October of 2016.

A series of emails about grilles led to the creation of this graphic. I believe my draft below is accurate based on the research I’ve done today, but if you see an error, don’t be shy about pointing it out. The grille I’m least sure about is the 1959 and later DJ-3A grille. I’m looking for more evidence that the late DJs used grilles with horizontal holes for attaching the parking lights, a necessary change because they used different parking lights after sn 14103 in 1959.

grille-examples-flat

As further evidence, the graphic below shows an early and late DJ-3A parking light schematics. This was assembled by Bruce Again and posted at the former jeeosurreygala.com site. I’ve combined what he published and turned it into this image:

parking-light-dj3a-image

The CJ-3B grilles were changed in a similar fashion in 1956. Derek has covered this issue well. And, as you can see below, CJ-5s were also switched in late 1956 or early 1957.  Continue reading

Early Allstate Hubs $150

• CATEGORIES: Parts • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Maury shared these hubs for sale. They are Allstate hubs and, likely, a very early set. My guess is the these were likely built by Husky/Dualmatic, but I am not familiar enough with hub innards to say for sure. I can’t quite find a brand-name hub with the cover that looks quite like this.

http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/allstate-hubs.150116/#post-1696817

“These hubs are all complete and turn freely. The dial is heavy case aluminum. These only work with threaded axles ends. I tried putting them on the later snap ring style axle and the snap groove does not protrude out. Outer case was chrome originally. They seem like a really well built early twist lock hub. Asking $150 obo plus shipping. I also have a picture of how the innards went when I took them off the axle.”
