1944 MB at a Furniture Store in Jacksonville, NC **SOLD**
UPDATE: Sold prior to reaching the reserve on eBay.
Someone this jeep got listed in the memorabilia section of eBay rather than in the auto section … Only 12 hours left as of this post. Might be able to get a deal if the reserve is low.
“hello, this is my 1944 fully restored jeep willys, it is frame off, engine was taken apart, transmission was taken apart, every piece was taken , it was all restored piece by piece then put back together, it looks just the way it did when it came off the line and sent to the war back in 1944, it comes with a replica m1 grande and full leather holster, this is museum quality and one of the nicest you will ever see, ready to take to the shows and win trophys, there was over 32 thousand dollars spent on this jeep, and that does not include the hundreds of man hours, this has been my baby for awhile now, was never taken outside but for a few times and driven around the parking lot, the camera flash makes it look lighter in color!!”
1949 CJ-2A Lonaconing, MD eBay
The seller gives a nice detailed look at this fiberglass flat fender. This is a AJ Body.
“I can’t believe I’ve really sat down at the computer to do this. I hate to see it go, but I just don’t have the time to enjoy it, If you love Jeeps and Jeep history, you’re in luck. There aren’t that many of these around or available.
I bought this Jeep Willys on ebaY from Mark Singer just over ten years ago in January of 2002. At that time, Mark advertised it as a rare 1949 Willys (only 2,182 made). But we discovered when doing the paperwork that it is really a 1948 Manufactured CJ2A that was not sold in 1948, so when it was finally sold in 1949 it was titled as a 1949. If you are familiar with Jeep history, you know that this was a common practice back then. So the title still says 1949, but please understand that it is a 1948 Willys.
Regardless, this is a great vehicle that was described by Mark on ebaY like this back in 2002:
“…this Willys has been restored from the frame up. Everything has been replaced or fxed back to original as much as possible. The body and fenders are brand new and made of fiberglass from AJ’s Jeep Bodys in PA. I looked at a lot of steel bodys and could not even come close to being as nice as the glass body. The inner and outer windshield frame and hood and the grill are original steel. The windshield frame and hood still have the Willys name stamped on it. The body frame and anything that could be sand blasted and painted was. There are just too many new parts to name them all, but here are few. The radiator, carbutetor, wiring harness, gauges, dash plaque, all buttons and knobs, canvas on seats, canvas bikini top, master cylinder, all brake lines, all four leaf springs, and many more. One thing that could stand to be replaced or rebuilt is the wheel cyclinders, they work, but could work better/ The other things that need fixed are the speedometer cable and the float in the gas tank needs to be changed to 12 volts. Everything was changed to a 12 volt sytem. The Jeep is street driven only. We take it to several car shows and it always comes home with a first place award. I am only the second owner of the Jeep. The reason I am sellin the Jeep is I wouldd like to get something else to restore. You will not go wrong with this Willys.”
Mark told me that the Jeep was bought new by his wife’s family who used it for their gas station/garage in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Like Mark, I have only driven this Jeep on the streets.
Since I have had it, I have done the following: Rebuilt the starter, replaced all four wheel brake cylinders, brakes pads, return springs, etc., new starter button, replaced the speedometer cable, and got the fuel gauge working.
Last year, after having sat for a long period of time, the engine started running rough. I got a local mechanic (former military) to look at it and he diagnosed a stuck valve. He fixed that and pulled other needed routine maintenance and the Jeep ran fine after that.
I do notice now, however, that the Jeep tends to run rough for a few minutes after I first start it. The valve may still be tight. (??) Trouble is, I don’t run it often. It needs to be run and could use an owner that has some garge skills, which I don’t have.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not a basket-case vehicle I just do not want to misrepresent it as perfect. On the other hand, what 64 year old vehicle is perfect.”

Wagon Body on Short Wheel Base Grand Rapids, MI **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $950. Better pics posted.
(03/25/2012) What happens when you put a wagon body on a 1/4 ton chassis? Well, this appears to be one example.
“I am not sure on exact year or if there is even an exact year. It is titled as a 2004 assembled and needs to be inspected before going on the road. This thing is a bit ugly. It is basiccilly a shortened Willys Wagon. The motor is a Chevy 6 cylinder so it should be an easy candidate for a SBC swap. Right now it does run and drive pretty good for the age but will need some brake work. It is not something that you are goinmg to buy and drive home from here. I bought it thinking I should have one more project jeep but there is no way that I am going to do anything with it. I did not build it so I do not know a whole lot about it. It does have the OEM Willys running gear. Tires hold air pretty good but they are rough. Buy it now and have a different ride for the holiday weekend at Silver Lake. The body work is rough and the side panles were welded on but never ground down or filled in so it definitely looks rough.”

1947 CJ-2A Concord, Ne $1600
Runs, but needs work.
“I have a 1947 Willys Jeep for sale, has title. Jeep runs but needs brake work and better tires. Jeep has some rust on passenger side you can see a little bit and hole the size of a quarter on the passenger rear. Windshield has a crack and tailgate has a few dents here or there but this is a solid jeep for the age. Most are a rust pile. Gas tank is new. My price is firm at 1,600 dollars. 402-369-2497”
1942 MB Slat Grille w/ No Glove Box De Pere, Wi **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on ebay.
This has a variety of patches.
“Vintage Willys MB slat grill. Clear 1942 WI Title although can’t verify Vin# because data plates are missing. No glove box, early hubs indicate an early jeep. condition – needs almost everything. I put in new brakes and master cyl some years ago. Still good. Have not fired it up in several years, but it was a smoker. Trans and transfer case worked. Actual milage unknown. the body is poor – many, many patches. Jerry can rigged as gas tank. Includes one combat rim but not correct for a slat grill. Needs complete restoration. Must have had several plow arrangements over the years judging by the front frame horns. I would have parted it out years ago but it is a unique piece of American history and should be preserved as such. It can be resurrected, but not for the faint of heart.”

Mark Smith’s Jeep Museum in Georgetown, Ca
I learned today that Mark Smith opened a museum a couple months back in Georgetown, Ca, at what I believe is the Jeep Jamboree Headquarters. At this point, it isn’t so much a museum as a collection of some rare jeeps, but they are nice looking jeeps. According to the Jamboree website, Mark organized the first Jeep Jamporee in 1954, traveling across the Sierra Nevada Mountains by way of the Rubicon Trail. It sounds like he is still going strong!

Hesse Hornet Info Wanted
The Hesse Hornet was an air compressor manufactured by the Hess Manufacturing Company in the late 1940s(?). The compressor used a CJ-2A engine to run, but only pistons 1 & 4. The middle two pistons were used to compress air. Keith recently bought one of these and was going to part it out, but changed his mind and now wants to restore it. However, there isn’t much online about it. Below are the links we know about it so far. If you know of any additional info, please add it to the comments.
