Sportif-looking JeepRod Sand Canyon, TX **Status Unknown**
UPDATE: **Status Unknown** Was $2500.
(11/29/2018) This oddity reminded me of the Willys Sportif prototype (seen at bottom).
Photo before paint:
“This is a Rat Rod, bucket, vintage, or What every you want to call it, this is what it is.
This is a one of a kind never will you see this again.
It was built in 86 so I am to believe but I think it was built earlier as it appears to have pre- mig welder welds that look cool.
This was a full custom job when it was done and someone left it for dead.
This is a 41 Willy’s chassis.

Hunting Jeep Houston, TX **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1000.
I love this funky jeep. Looks to have started life as a CJ-5 or M-38A1. Then, someone with a welder and torch got a hold of it. Just bring it back to life and keep as is. It’s a great conversation piece of nothing else.
“I have for sale a jeep that I have used at my hunting lease. It is a tough vehicle that is entirely metal. It has both high and low 4 wheel drive and a hoist on the back. It has some slop in the transmission that can be fixed with adjustment of the yoke in the three speed on the floor. It has a Ford Falcon engine. It has been sitting in my barn but it was running when I drove there. Tires are good and the fuel tank is a new tank that I have in the rear cargo area. I replaced the carburetor a few years back and runs fine. Will make a great jeep for a hunting lease or just to drive around a ranch. There is no title and I don’t know what year model or make it is! I am told that this is a form military jeep but I don’t know what era it is from.”
1951 CJ-3A Valentine APU Jeep on eBay
Nick’s jeep was just featured in the most recent issue of Dispatcher Magazine.
View all the information on eBay
Where do I even begin? This is a very rare and authentic piece of military history; it may be your only chance to own a vehicle like this. If you search “APU Jeep” this very Jeep is all over the internet. It is a 1951 Willys Jeep CJ3A, but was specially contracted by the US Navy to be used as a mobile power unit. This is known as an APU (auxiliary power unit). It’s sole purpose was to start early jet-aircraft as they did not have on-board starters. It utilized a PTO-driven generator off the transfercase and fed power through cables to the jet. The equipment was so heavy duty, the Jeeps were equipped with larger engines that weren’t even available to the public yet. Two different manufacturers built these Jeeps: A company named O.E. Szekely which a handful of Jeeps are left, but none have any of the original jet equipment. They are only known by their data plates. The other company was Valentine Welder & Co.
1955? Jeep Specialized Equipment Book **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
This look like a great post-1955 equipment book. Auction ends Saturday morning.
“This is a dealer sales book packed with information regarding the CJ-3B, CJ-5, 1 ton Truck, Station Wagon, Willys Fire Truck, Willys Ambulance, Jeep Fire Engine and a very complete list of all of the attachments and accessories available from the Jeep dealer at the time from A frames to welders. There is a sales brochure included for each item which describes the items in great detail as well as some of the installation times. This is an original surviving book from the early 1950’s, not a reprinted copy”
1943 MB Engine Warjeeps.com
No location was provided for this engine.
“I have a MB Willys engine that was removed from a Hobart welder. I do not believe this was the engine that was in this welder originally due to the fact that it was mated to a partial Jeep bell housing to make the fit. The engine runs and still carried a load before being removed from the welder. By looking closely at area near distributor where these engines are prone to crack, I can see a professional repair was made at some time to the block (repair is barely visible and holds). Serial number behind oil filter is MB546645, casting number 638632. Boss behind water pump correct 1/2″x2″. Engine has 40-50 psi oil pressure when running and no knocks, or crank chuggle. Cold compression is 70-90 psi across the 4 cylinders, bumps up to 110-140 once the oil gets to them.”

“Up for sale is my 1952 Willys Truck Rat Rod/ Hot Rod. I have a clean title in hand ready to transfer.
About the truck: The truck itself is titled as a 1952 Willys truck. The frame is from a 1987 Toyota mini truck, and retains all breaks and rear axle of a toyota truck. The frame is painted, as it was from a show truck. The frame has a professionally welded in c-notch and a 4 link suspension in the rear. It has a 4 bagged air ride suspension with fast bags. As you can see in the pictures, the truck lays body on the ground. It has front/back and side to side capabilities as well as individual bag control. You can see the switch box in the interior picture. The air bag suspension works wonderfully, and is very fast. The pipes to each bag from the tank are stainless steel instead of plastic for a very nice, and much better quality, than the typical plastic tubing. You can see the tubing coming off of the tank in the pictures.

Hobart Welders
Here are a couple Hobart welders with jeep engines on each coast. Both operate.
1. Hobart Welder, Fruitland, Idaho $750.
“Older Hobart Portable welder/generator, 250 amp, 40 volt, 60% duty cycle. Powered by a Willy’s Industrial 4 cylinder motor. Has one 110 outlet on the front panel. It has been started, runs well and will strike an arc and weld. Currently missing the battery and ground clamp, welding cables are weathered.”
2. Hobart Welder, Haverhill, MA $600.
“Hobart “tow-behind” welding machine with bottle racks.
4 cylinder WILLYS flathead runs great. Armature has a shot and only provides a scratch-arc”
Hobart Welder Snohomish, WA **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $300.
It runs, but needs some work. May be a good price.
“Hobart Gas Engine Driven welder generator. Will need some work to make run but does run and work. Currently the engine cover is off and the radiator was removed to be replaced. Have new radiator and needs to be reassembled. Gas in tank is likely bad from sitting. With some work you can have a decent running older welder generator. Or use the parts for something else.
The engine is a cool old JEEP Willys industrial motor.
AS is no trades. The welder head alone will fetch $300 worth of scrap copper at the recycle yard, I would just rather see it go to someone who has the time to use it.”
Jeep Memorabilia Collection East Haddam, CT
Brian is selling his collection of jeep memorabilia, documents, signs and more. He’s sharing some of the pics at sellajeep.com. You’ll need to email him for prices and for a full list of what he has available.
“After 30 years in the Jeep business I am selling off my massive collection. I am long time master Jeep restorer and collector Brian Hainer. There are hundreds of vintage and modern toys, thousands of manuals and pieces of Jeep literature, dealer signs, dealer items etc.
The collection includes items from WW2 to about 1986, last of the CJ’s. Lots of NOS toys new in the box. The MB toy is #92 of 250 made by Fine Art Models, very rare to see one for sale. The sign photo is of a very large dealer sign. One panel says jeep and the other service. Over 18 feet long. I have a lot of factory photos and a huge pile of original blueprints of the Willys factory and of parts. Some are half scale and over 12 feet long.
I am also restoring a CJ5 snowblower Jeep right now, next will be a CJ5 trencher, after that is a CJ5 diesel Jeep with a large compressor that was used for drilling rock in New Hampshire to make ski slopes, and finally a CJ3B welder Jeep. All of these were factory equipped as described, and all are getting a careful restoration that I am known for. If anyone is interested now you can have the Jeep built as you like, such as color, tires, etc.
I am hoping to find good homes for all my vehicles and memorabilia so don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to own the item you have been looking for!
Pictured are just a few of the thousands of items I have so please email for more details.”
Hobart Welder Alexandria, VA $450
This might be worth a look.
“Hobart DC welder from the 50s powered by a 4 cylinder CJ2A jeep flat head engine and mounted on a 2 wheel trailer that fits Chrysler rims. Item has been stored in a garage for around 25 years after being taken out of service due to a leaky gas tank. The cables were scrapped due to the insulation all falling off of them years ago. The trailer tongue has a single hole in a flat strap cut with a gas torch.
The engine is stuck from sitting for years but should not have gotten any water in it.
I have a key for it that fits the switch and moves between positions.”
Hobart Welder Pittsburgh, PA $750

Welders on the Battlefield from Popular Science
Here’s an interesting article in the May 1945 issue of Popular Science about welding on the battlefield that includes several references to using jeeps as portable welding units. There is a copy on eBay for only $5.99. Here are a couple images from the article:
