Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The Clemson 4-Wheeler Center shared this vintage 1978 Hinkle’s brochure. Hinkle’s billed themselves as the world’s largest jeep dealer.
The center seats shown on page 9 for the CJs was something I don’t think I’ve seen. I also thought it was interesting that the company listed X-style and PCV-style Desert Dogs, but not the standard type.
Tom shared this rebuilt CJ-5. I haven’t seen an early KS speedometer with that tall of bezel (outer circle). Maybe it is the light color of the outer ring that is throwing me off.

“Must have for Willys Jeep collector. First year 1955 Willys cj5. Bone stock with rare original speedometer and gages and they work. No alterations still 6volt system. New correct tires, brakes ( emergency brake also works) tune up , battery and fluids. Cranks first time every time. Drives and stops straight. PO rebuilt motor, new transmission, clutch ect. Recovered seats and painted a few years back. Only driven 1100-1200 miles since. Ga normally won’t issue title on vehicle this age but I have copies of two South Carolina and one Virginia titles so Ga did issue a title in my name. Priced $2700 below Hagerty’s #3 good value. New Bestop and doors.”

“1962 Jeep FC/170 on a 1990 Isuzu Tilt Chassis. Truck runs stops and drives. Motor is 4BT1 with auto trann, power brakes,power steering and AC. “This is a jeep FC 170 flatbed truck, these are very rare. Unfortunately this one is in rough shape, I bought it years ago planning to fix it up and its only become a yard ornament so its gotta go. The frame is solid but everything else is very rotten. The motor is not original it is a chevy engine but not sure what model. It would need to be towed on a flat bed, does not run.”
Has a Chevy powertrain.
“Jeep FC170 with chevy drivetrain (305, th350, divorce tcase np205?) Frame is the best I have seen on these old jeeps besides the crossmembers being cut up by a previous owner. But is rusty but it’s straight and solid enough to weld and repair. Comes with some extra body panels from a parts cab to get you started. Good glass all the way around. Engine turns over, but needs a new starter. Was told it runs but I cannot confirm. $2500 Firm Maine, delivery available, hold only with $250/week Deposit.”

General Electric Company’s new fire jeep loaded with women at the GE gate. The talking dummy and a fire prevention display are on the right. Ladies are unknown. Photo is from a Fire Prevention Book made in 1951.

UPDATE: Price dropped to $2500.
Thanks to Andy for sharing this one. It has a PTO, rear gearbox, and a drum pulley. The shackles are on the front of the front springs, so this might not be a 1955. This appears to have early Husky hubs.

Bill shared this fascinating video of a CJ-6 owner in Pakistan attempting to find a part to fix his jeep so he can ferry goods and passengers along a dangerous rode towards a land-locked village in the mountains of Pakistan.

The seller also lists prices for buying them separately. The 2A is listed as a 1952, but it looks to have some 2A attributes, such as the radiator, so the year may be incorrect (Or it is a 2A+3A).

“Selling my 1946 Willy’s Jeep. I do not need to sell this Jeep and I won’t unless my asking price is met or a reasonable offer is made. Just put this through the shop. And was fully serviced. Transmission was rebuilt before I bought it in 2018. I had overdrive from “Herm the overdrive guy.” (Thats his company name) installed on this in 2019. Also has a factory Willy’s Jeep heater that does work. Has the PTO out the back. With the drum pulley attachment which is rare. As well as the factory 180 lb tractor weight on the front.
Unusual rims. I suspect the center of the front rims were enlarged to fit the hubs.
