<– Day 15 – Apr. 3rd: Joshua Tree National Park | OVERVIEW | Day 17 – Apr. 5th: Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor –>
We spent Thursday night in downtown Palm Desert. I’d like to explore it more some day, but on Friday morning we had no time to see it. Instead, we had a specific mission: find the jeep sculpture in Borrego Springs, California.
Before leaving Palm Desert, more food was needed and, after some googling, we landed at Jensens. One look at the deli case — lobster pot pie, sliced medium rare lamb, and more — we knew we’d better tread carefully, or we wouldn’t have any money left for the remainder of the trip. We couldn’t resist a few slices of lamb, but did pass on the lobster pot pie (Drats! I really wanted to know how that tasted).
Ready for our trip into the desert, we drove east before turning south. The highway took us down the western side of the Salton Sea. Back in my Manyone Network (circa 2006 and pre-eWillys) days I worked with a group to develop a portal about the unique aspects of the area. I’d always wanted to see the sea in person and finally got that chance today. While I’d seen it in photos, it is much bigger in person than I’d imagined.
When we reached Salton City, we began our trek west to Borrego Springs, but part way along our journey we discovered a bit of jeeping nirvana: Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area. First, we spotted a sign for a “4×4 Obstacle Road”.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $8500.
Not a column shift at the moment, but seller has the parts to turn it back.
“Early 1946 cj2a Willy’s in very good shape has had a partial restoration a few years ago. Some of the work includes painted, seat covers, new top, new transmission to make it a 3 speed on the floor but have all part to return it back to 3 on the collom, also new gas tank, brakes and wheel cylinders. Original go devil engine in great working order.”
UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was $10,500
Cool trailer. Jeep has a fiberglass tub.
“This is the Jeep the Army would have wanted in 52. CJ3A with a 350 V8, turbo 350 trans and a B&M slapstick shifter. The Jeep has fiberglass tub with brand new Hot Rod Flatz olive drab paint, disc brakes, 3 inch lift, 32 inch tires on 15×10 rims, lined tub with a full carpet kit, overhead console with a am/fm cd player in it, 14 gallon tank, custom tire carrier with 2 inch hitch, block heater, side steps, padded roll bar, dual exhaust, electric wipers, and a full soft top in great shape.
The trailer is a jeep frame with a cut down tub and new paint. it has two large ammo cans and two new jerry cans on it. All of the tires are interchangeable with the jeep and trailer. the tub is rhino lined and it has reinforced corners and back on it.
I don’t have to sell it or need help selling it but I have found another project car I would like to restore. probably not interested in trading. $10,500.00”
UPDATE: Was $10,750. **SOLD**
Looks in good shape.
“For sale is this 1950 Willys wagon. It has a clear title and is ready for a new owner. Paint is about 1 year old. This Willy is a fully reprinted frame up inside and out. It has a small block Chevy V8 and auto transmission. Has had motor regularly taken care of. Brakes and trans work great. There are no overheating issues with this swap. The jeep has newer dodge wheels and tires on it. Starts runs and drives great. Does not need anything major. There are no tricks with this one just to many toys in the mix and must let this one go. The only major change to the entire body is the rear door does not open. Only the top window flips up. The folding down door does not function as it has been molded into the body. It looks great and fits the 2 wd cruiser look. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to view it. ”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1850.
Buz forwarded this ad. The top sure looks good. Jeep runs and drives.

“For Sale: 1946 Jeep Willys CJ2A on a CJ5 frame? Also comes with Dana axles and 225 V6 Buick engine. This is a very neat looking beast that could be loads of fun as well as a real eye catcher. I purchased this as a project to upgrade with my son, but find myself with too much else going on. This is drive ready and most everything works, but it is clearly not a highway vehicle. It also comes with a full soft top (not pictured). Email or call me if you have questions or want to come look at it. Serious inquiries only. The price is firm.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5800
Looks solid. It has been painted khaki green.

painted it Khaki green

“The ‘CJ3A jeep runs great. Has the 4 cylinder F – Head engine. Interior is in OK shape. Minimal rust. No topper.”
The CJ5 also runs great. It also has the 4 cylinder F – Head engine. Interior needs some love. Topper needs glass replaced in a few windows. The blade is hydraulic and works great. Nice for cleaning snow. The winch is PTO driven and works nice as well.
Combo the two and save a few $’s.”
