The DJ’s ‘fleetness of get-away’ was one reason Kreisher purchased these dispatchers. There had to be faster vehicles than the DJ!
1942-43? Photo of first Fire Jeeps
UPDATE: Originally I listed this as a 1941 article, based on a database date stamp. Richard pointed out the stamped grill would make this unlikely. It’s a good point! Additional research suggests the paper was from the 1942-43 time frame.
This photo documents one of fifteen jeeps transformed by the Canadians into fire jeeps. I don’t have a date on the newspaper, but it was published in an issue of the Flesherton Ontario Advance Newspaper.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
“1942 Willys MB Slat Grill Jeep. Serial no. 111847. Date of delivery is unknown as the main data plate is missing. Recently purchased from the estate of a long time collector and was found in San Antonio, TX 25 years ago. Jeep is not running and has not run in many years. Engine turns over freely and jeep rolls easily. No obvious cracks in the usual places on the engine. The engine serial no. is S38361. It is an original chain drive WWII engine and has a Ford GPW head and water outlet. Probably replaced by the Army. Engine has all the early Willys manifolds, orig WO carb. etc. The body has rust on both front quarter panels and there is a patch in the passenger floor board. There is little to no rust in the rear tool boxes.

– Dana 30 front, 5.38 gears, Detroit locker, disc brakes, heavy duty steering
– Spring over suspension on 33″ x-terrain’s
I’ve owned this Jeep for about 13 years now and have done a considerable amount of work to it over the years. Between work and kids it spends most of the time in the garage these days collecting dust. I run it around town every few weeks to keep the battery charged but it hasn’t been wheeling in years.
The body and chassis both show their age but work fine for the intended purpose. All other parts have been replaced at some point in the past decade. Probably $15K or so invested in that time.”

“I have a 1947 CJ 2A and I cannot handle this project right now. It is a flat fender Willys Jeep. The whole thing is complete. I own Redi-strip of phoenix now Clean Metal Industries, and striped this vehicle a long time ago thinking I was going to rebuild it. The tub is off the frame right now and upon sale the vehicle will be cleaned again and you will be receiving the jeep with the tub on the rolling frame , in bare metal form. SO you will be able to begin work on it right away. The vehicle has the 4 cylinder motor, it is 4×4 and is completely there. I really need to find a home for this and with all the pieces stripped and ready for body work, you have a great head start. I DO NOT have a title for this vehicle. I do have all the original tags for the vehicle.. The frame has not been striped but will gladly strip it when the project gets to that point.”
