In June of 1946, around 10,000 Veterans appeared at the Benicia armory in the hope of buying one of the 1,588 WWII jeeps for sale. The article was published in the June 25, 1946, issue of the Utica Daily Press (pg3).
Here’s a DJ-3A Dispatcher Ad from January 6,1956, published in the Herald Statesmen in Yonkers, NY. If you lived in Elmira, New York, you’d have seen the same ad, but with a price that was over $200 more ($1583)! Carmel, New York, had the best price at $1249.
This ad was published six years later in a 1962 issue of the Herald Statesman.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4950.
The motor is updated. Looks in good shape.
“This Willys is in great. Original wheels, tires, seats, body. The engine was swapped for a Ford Maverick inline 6 and had the brakes and steering upgraded. Which makes for a much better ride than the original flathead 4. This would be a great start for a full restoration or you might just be looking for a fun hobby and sunday cruiser. Either way it runs and drives beautifully.”
This CJ-5 will be auctioned on Friday, October 24th, in Pike County, Illinois.

“1946 Willys Jeep with title, running condition”
http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/auctionview.cgi?lid=2238083&kwd=willys&zip=&category=0
UPDATE: Price dropped to $2000. Jeff notes he is open to offers.
This has been disassembled.
“I want to sell this Willys with some rare options to help finance another project. It was purchased new in 1950 with the Monroe 3 point hitch and rare front bumper weight installed. It has the dash mounted throttle that operated the governor which was missing when I got it. The jeep needs total restoration, floors are bad as well as the hat channels and is currently apart with the frame on a rotisserie as shown in one photo. The motor has been run and has a rebuilt carb, new water pump, and the valves have been lapped. Title is not a problem as bill of sale only on a vehicle this old in this state.”
This appears to have a MB body on a CJ-5 chassis of some vintage.
“1945 Jeep MB military body. With a 231 Buick odd fire V6. It has 310 miles on it since it was gone through. Bored 40 over new cam new crank new pistons valves were done high volume high pressure oil pump new water pump new fuel pump. Electric fan along with the mechanical fan for cooling. Trans had all new gears put in transfer case was replaced with new one with large idler shaft. Had new gauges put in had some high back bucket seats with shoulder and lap harness put in. 8000lb winch with remote. Has electric wipers, electric fuel pump along with the mechanical one, heater, a set of mag rims and tires go with it. New top, lots of other stuff was done just to hard to tell it all. Sweet running old Jeep if you are in to that kind of a ride. This was all done in 2007 and it has sat in a garage ever since except to take it out to license it and out on some of the trails around Morgan.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1800
Needs a little work of some kind.
“1974 RIGHT HAND STEER JEEP,6CLY,AUTOMATIC,RUN GOOD FUN TOO DRIVE NEED TLC$1800…..ARE TRADE FOR…?”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.
(10/04/2014) This might have a DJ body. It’s got no tailgate, no fuel inlet on driver’s side, no tool indents on driver’s side, and looks to have drain holes, though they are slightly covered. Doesn’t run.
“1953 Willys CJ3A that has been owned by the same family last 35+ years. Has original flat head L-134 go-devil motor. Stock drivetrain. Custom built roll cage and racks. Motor cranks over but jeep has not been driven for years. Tires and rims are less then a year old. Cost$900 new. Great jeep for father son project or someone looking for an original jeep. Clean title registered 2015.”
It’s a project that runs.
“BARN FIND FLATFENDER JEEP!! Probably a CJ2A or 3A. Original L head 134 flathead engine. Rebuilt transmission/XFR case, radiator, etc. Runs and drives, would be a great project. See the pictures or call me if you are serious about it. $2000 just about covers what I had to invest to make it drive. If I fix more stuff the price will go up accordingly. will need seats, electrical, tires (has 15 inch wheels) other stuff.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1800.
“I have a 1948 CJ2A Jeep that’s been stored in a pole barn for about 20 years. Serial number 179097. Dad used it on the farm in the 60’s, I don’t know where he got it. He replaced the body back then. It was running when parked about 20 years ago.”
It’s a project.
“This is a project vehicle , no motor – etc. . Upgraded axel w/4.27 gears & lockers . Great tires . Has a title .”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2200.
It’s got a 2A/3A front with a CJ-5 rear.
“951 Willys Jeep, at least that’s what the title says, TX title in my name with antique plate. Was going to be a father son project but quickly we realized neither of us knew enough about vehicles to tackle something like this. We got it from my brother-n-law who spent about $3,500 on it to get it running, I have the receipts. Engine seems to run good and doesn’t smoke; we can drive it around the neighborhood. I’ve never tried the 4-wheel drive; none of the lighting works, lots of play in the steering, starter catches and starts the engine about every 3rd or 4th time. We put new tires and shocks on the rear, front tires are good. Has a death wobble in the front left wheel at about 25mph, thought it was bearing related so I installed new bearings, didn’t fix the wobble. Hopefully someone with knowledge of this thing will take it off our hands and have fun with it. I’ve got no idea the value; I’d just like to recover the $2200 we have in it. Bring cash, come haul it off.””
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $750.
Includes a Warn Overdrive.
“47 CJ2A for parts. Has V8, 3 speed, transfer case, warn OD. Doesn’t run, has been sitting for years. Some front end body damage. Not parting out piecemeal must take entire jeep. ”
