Justin bought this FC last year believing he could save it. I’d say he’s done a bang up job on it!
I bought this jeep and restored it over the year. It was very rusted out but I rebuilt what was there and now it’s almost back on the road. Still need to buy a new windshield and get some tires. But it purrs like a kitten.
Maybe you can see on the rear bumper the spots I need to cut out still for my 28-31 Ford Model A tail lights and the slots to mimic the grill. I ended up going with new rugged ridge low back seats. They where pretty easy to attach the old brackets to. My rear view mirrors or for some kind of motorcycle. They look cool and the curved mirror allows good visibility. I kept the front lower part of the body off so I could build a nice flush bumper in its place with a winch hidden behind it.
My cab mounts are reinforced on the back with 1/4″ steel. And the cab mount is made from 2″ sch 40 steel pipe. The cab is raised 3″. So I could put a taller tire. I still need to mold some fender flares from fiberglass in the next couple of months pending the weather. I built this with intentions of snorkeling the engine tranny and axles air tight so I could go under water if I wanted.
This was gonna just be a trail rig. But I loved it more and more as I worked on it. It’s not by any means a great looker. It still needs a few things I can’t find like- speedo cable and front E-brake cable. And other things a cant think of off hand.
Justin took a bunch of photos to share.
John spotted an article about the military’s sale of some Humvees.
WASHINGTON — What in the world is the U.S. military going to do with all of its surplus Humvees? For the first time, it will auction off as many as 4,000 of the workhorse vehicles for sale to the public, instead of scrapping them.
Even as controversy churns over the Pentagon’s transfer of military equipment to local civilian police departments, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) sent the first batch to auction through IronPlanet’s GovPlanet.com. Since bidding started at $10,000 a couple of weeks ago, pent up demand has yielded bids on nearly all of the Humvees — selling for off-road use only.

Marc was wondering if anyone knows what brand of tires are installed on this wagon.
Thanks to Gayland for sharing this brochure and much more. I’ve got to go through the rest and figure out a good way to share some info, but I thought this was worthy of it’s own post.
Note: Another firm started up about the same time as Safari-Kar on the east coast.
The model is 16″ long. Nice piece.
“This handcrafted teak wood model is an extremely beautiful replica of a World War II Willys jeep with detailed interior and engine compartment. The front wheels move from left to right and wheels rotate.
Model has an extremely detailed interior with gauges, data plates, gas, clutch and brake pedal and has a steering wheel that rotates. The Windshield folds and the hood opens to reveal a detailed engine compartment showing the radiator with fan, top radiator hose, gas filter, battery generator, distributor, oil pump, oil fill tube, carburetor with crossover and air cleaner. It also has a detailed under carriage with exhaust and skid palate.
This hand made model measures 16″ long by 7″ wide and is 7 3/4″ tall with windshield in the raised position.
You will not find a better more detailed model than this. The picture show some dust from the model being on the shelve and I will clean it before I ship.”
Bob spotted this high-end ‘jeep’, that is so high end the name ‘jeep’ doesn’t appear anywhere in its description. I think it’s hilarious that the web page includes the ability to add the jeep to a shopping cart of items. Clearly, I am not among Filson’s demographics, because it is a Seattle company that I’ve never heard of.
