Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I have a 1983 DJ5 Mail Jeep that I got in trade for sale. It has the 2.5 GM 4cyl automatic 2wd. It is Right Hand Drive. It runs and drives, has decent tires. I have the mail tray but it is not bolted in. This vehicle was being used to deliver mail until about a year ago. Could be used on mail route, farm, made into a cool 4wd or a rat/hot rod. I have read that the 4×4 running gear from a CJ5 is a bolt in and that the frame on the DJ is actually stronger than the CJ frame. I am asking $1500 cash obo. I will negotiate lower price in person and your best deal will be showing me cash. I will consider trades. Call or text only between 7am and 10pm only please. The seller listes these as being 4.5×5″, but they look like 5.5×5 lug pattern to me.

(10/20/2014) “Five military combat wheels, paint will need removed from the front (see pics) the rears all look good. On wheel is missing a bolt, there are a few areas around a couple of the wheels that will need straighten, tires are junk. Static display or run them, they will need restored. I have not tried to disassemble them, was going to use them on a M38 decided to scrap the project. Call with questions. There are several pictures to look at.”

“I have for sale a 1950s Willys L134 Motor. The motor was mounted to a military generator. This motor is also equipped with water fording waterproofing equipment including a waterproof distributor and oil bath air cleaner specifically designed to support the air ventilation for fording as was seen on the MC-38 Military Willys Jeep. The generator and all parts other than what you see in the pictures was scrapped. The motor turns freely but I haven’t made any efforts yet to start it. This is the same motor used in the early flat fender Willys Jeeps with the exception that it has extra accessories that supported the generator function such as the governor – all of which are readily removed and it also has the waterproofing accessories which can be run in any environment or replaced with standard accessories. I’m selling it as is with the accessories you see attached for an asking price of $550. Please e-mail if interested.”

Santa got a little help from an M-151 this year. Joe tells me it was a cold drive, but taking Santa for a ride and being last in the parade was fun!
In 1956 the State of Florida’s Road Commission purchased a fleet of ten CJ-5s.
Yesterday I noticed an FC commercial making the rounds on Facebook, one I hadn’t previously seen. It turned out to be a shortened version that Brendan from the-old-jeep has posted back in 2010. I’m sure some others out there didn’t see it either. It’s a good one that starts with a comedy routine and then shows an FC-150 & 170 hard at working towing vehicles.
The caption argues this jeep driven by orchard tree owner Russell Arundel was one of the first CJ-2As in the Virginia area.

Marc spotted these three photos showing jeeps and members of the 16th Constabulary. All are original photos. The photos were taken by Private Thomas L. Bombassi, SN 61127318, of Waturbury, Conn., who was in the 16th Constabulary Squadron that policed occupied Berlin, Germany in 1945-1946.
