Seller started with a pretty rough project.
http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/5942980418.html
“I went over the frame fixing cracks and old repairs. I also boxed the frame for strength. Then I coated it with POR15 and topcoat
Mostly all new sheet metal. I rebuilt the body using some of the original parts but the original metal was mostly used as a template. I used a thicker gauge metal than the stock and I added reinforcement metal into areas that were badly rotten. For instance, the hat channels are made from C-channel stock rather than stamped sheet metal. I used diamond plate steel to create the driver/passenger floor. I did this for strength and so your feet aren’t slipping around when wet. The windshield frame and window are aftermarket and the tailgate was on the Jeep when I got it but I don’t think its original.
After the extensive re-crafting of the body, I used seam sealer on every area metal came together. the bottom of the body was coated in etch primer then a ceramic coating was used to protect the metal from rock chips or road debris. Then it was primed and painted with color and clear. The upper body is near perfect. Etched, primed, color and clear. In between coats, it was color sanded, cleared and a cut and buff. I used Moss Green Pearl for the body color and a “broken star” pattern with a bright white and white ice pearl. Really cool looking.
For the wiring I used Painless wiring with a blade fuse block.
Autometer gauges monitor the Chevy 4.3 V6 engine.
I used a MSD 6A ignition box and MSD Blaster coil to fire the MSD distributor
The ignition box and coil are mounted under the dash with a coil wire pass-thru in the firewall.
I cut a sump into the fuel tank. I sealed and treated the tank with a POR15 tank kit. Braided stainless hose and Areoquip fittings feed the Holley Blue pump and the Holley carb.
Through the fender headers, Magnaflow stainless mufflers and the hand made exhaust were Jet coated and should last for a good long time.
The engine is cooled with an aluminum Edlebrock reverse flow water pump, aluminum radiator, and an electric cooling fan.
The engine mates to the original F-script transmission and transfer case with an advanced adapter bell housing and a GM clutch.
The Jeep needs a few things to be 100% but I don’t want to take ALL the fun out of it for someone else!
There really isn’t a way to gauge a price on something like this. I had this for sale previously asking 20k obo. and received tons of emails and calls but no buyer. No one wanted to negotiate! 🙂
Lets try this again, $19,500 OBO.”

The tub has never been assembled.
“or sale is an M38 tub, It has NEVER been assembled. I am unsure of the year and it has no title but the tub number is 381101254. We did somewhat assemble it for picture purposes. The fenders, hood, grill, windshield frame, and a tailgate (that was still in the factory cellophane) are NOS and not reproduction. We sat the tub on a used frame that I have been told is an M38 frame, but am not certain. The frame is in very rough condition and has no engine but has transmission, axles, tires, machine gun mount etc. It also comes with 3 engines/transmission set ups that have never been started. I dont think they are the correct engines for this jeep and they have sat outside for sometime and will need work. One of the engine/transmission combos is 100 percent compete and the other two are missing some odd and end parts. Comes with 6 new OEM tires already mounted on rims and a bunch of seat pads that are in great shape! 4,200 firm. You wont find another tub in this good of shape!! Located in Jacksonville, NC”
I don’t know what the usually run.
“1953 Jeep M38A1 body tub kit. Includes tub, fenders, hood and windscreen. All sandblasted, primed and painted the correct Korean War Green. Windscreen has new glass and new correct weather strip. Some extras include body reflectors, seat brackets front and rear, firewall cover plugs and more. More pictures available. ”

I wonder if it stopped working before it rolled into the water? That would explain the raised hood.
