Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “Runs and drives. Flat 6. 3 speed manual trans. 4×4. Twin stick tcase. Very little rust. The odometer shows 89,000 miles. All original. .Its not road ready. But it is running and driving. Brakes are sticky from sitting. It could use a tune up (plugs, wires, points and oil change). Tires have cracking due to age. Leaks some oil from the fuel pump on the passenger side of the block. But it is complete and mostly original. Wouldnt take much to fully restore.”

“1944 Willys MB WII Jeep project. My brother and I bought this to restore, but we found a different jeep later on which we want to concentrate on instead, and he has since moved to Hawaii. Frame tag has a serial number of MB 324912, which puts it in the 1944 year. Willys MB left toe board gusset has a number of 46344. Willys MB tub toolbox features round style lock depressions and plain style lid. Appears that somewhere a later style “Willys” script hood and windshield frame was added? Spare dash and cowl included to replace cutout dash. Engine is not original to jeep, running condition unknown, newer looking carb. Tub and frame are really solid, but tub has a fair amount of filler, so I assume it needs to be have the metal worked out to be nice. Have not done anything to this jeep since we bought it, just trying to recoup some of our money. Priced right.”

1. This one was on eBay. It also appeared in the March 27, 1944, issue of the News-Journal out of Mansfield, Ohio.
“1944- U.S. Coast Guardsmen demonstrate new “Invader” jeep, which can carry 10 men and travel up to 60 miles an hour. The Invader is made by sawing a standard Jeep in half and adding three feet to the middle. Photo measures approx. 7″ x 9″”

Here’s a great shot of the Coast Guard of Invader Jeep. It was stretched three feet to accommodate more people. The text “The Coast Guard Invader” is just visible along the side. Here’s an example of one at a museum in New Jersey.

“I have a 1957 Willys Jeep. Turn key drive away. Mostly original has been converted to 12 volts. The engine is the 4 cyl “F” head. This is a very low geared rig top speed is 50 but does not like that for extended periods of time. The 4×4 works it is a three speed. Manual drum brakes. It is blue in color. has an open CJ type body with a bikini top.
This runs great and is a close to original 57′ not a daily driver. Could be made into a show vehicle easy.The frame is solid it has had a repair done but it was done very professionally. I have been told it is worth every penny but I am willing to dicker some.
If you want to modify a jeep this is not the one. Its that good.”
