Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “Selling my 1947 Willys Overland station wagon. All original with 4 cylinder motor and manual 3-speed transmission. The transmission is a factory overdrive. THIS VEHICLE IS COMPLETE AND ORIGINAL BUT DOES NOT RUN AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A PROJECT. Body is in fair condition. Needs new gas tank and fuel lines, master cylinder and all brake lines, brake shoes and wheel cylinders. Also needs new clutch and new suspension rubber parts. The engine does not run and the transmission and rear end are not tested. The engine rotates freely but has several broken stud bolts. Wagon is 2 wheel drive from the factory. All components are original from the factory. Title is clear for CA and non-op. Great opportunity for the right buyer.”

(From the previous ad) “Caterpillar yellow covers this real life piece of 60’s history. Formerly driven by the Director of Field Training for the National School of Heavy Equipment, Charlotte, North Carolina. The school was founded by Gilbert S. Shaw in 1955 and operated until 1976. Apparently it was the first school of it’s kind in the world! It was painted for the school, then sold, had a 1970’s “restoration” and then sat for another 30 years. The 70’s restoration included a dash modification & a coat of ugly, drab tan. Our “restoration” process included many steps of hand sanding and polishing the entire vehicle to expose the school’s door sign and yellow paint job. Plus of course, clean up, repair, and history research..”

Apparently, this was a rental jeep. Rent-A-Jeep does show up on a Google search, but I didn’t check to see if it still operates.

Has been used for Veterans fund raising events and Funerals. Driven monthly round trip to National Cemetery(50 miles) without a problem ever.Licensed as Washington State Collector Vehicle but could be daily driver with only a license change. Speedo works but not all other gauges, no heater, a few glass cracked here and there but nothing in large panes. Has rear seats and litter stretcher to go with. NO leaks in cases or radiator. Need to know how to “feather” a choke.”
