Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The Hesse Hornet was an air compressor manufactured by the Hess Manufacturing Company in the late 1940s(?). The compressor used a CJ-2A engine to run, but only pistons 1 & 4. The middle two pistons were used to compress air. Keith recently bought one of these and was going to part it out, but changed his mind and now wants to restore it. However, there isn’t much online about it. Below are the links we know about it so far. If you know of any additional info, please add it to the comments.

No pics provided. I did a search for 6-wheeled trucks, but didn’t find any.
“While I was stationed at Millington in 1978 I helped a local man build a six wheel Willys Pickup truck. We lengthened the truck and added a second rear axle. I recently bought a 1950 Willys truck to restore and I am trying to get in touched with the owner of the truck I helped build. I would like to get some pictures of the work we did to this truck.”
The buyer is looking for a specific truck that was in the family.
“I am looking for a 1962 Willys pickup that looks similar to the one in the photos seen here. My grandfather purchased it new and drove it everyday until 1994. There is a long story with this vehicle but to make it short, I would greatly appreciate any information leading to it’s location. I heard it was sold to somebody in southern Cal so I’m posting here. The original C.A. black plate begins with M52.”

JJ is looking for the following jeep:
“I bought this 1947 CJ2A in 1996 from a guy named Martel south of Chicago in Palos Park, Illinois for $600 and sold it for $600 in 1997 for $600 to an elderly gent who was from the area east of where I lived in Tinley Park, Illinois. It had been well restored before I owned it but financial problems and mechanical inexperience back then in my misspent youth prevented me from proper upkeep. It was painted a metalflake emerald green and sported a unique front bumper and a vent cover in front of the drivers side on the front panel. I have no record of the serial number from the engine block and it had no title. I was wondering if anyone had seen it? Ever?”

” i just recently bought an early 1960s jeep pickup truck called a model fc-170 and mine is missing quite a few parts and i know that theres still some of these trucks sitting around the dallas / ft worth area and are normally in pretty bad shape.

Mike writes, “Dave- I am trying to restore a 1952 CJ3A that I picked up. The stock 4 cylinder had three of the 4 rods thru the block. I am really looking fro a 1951-1953 block to reuild this with. This block has the additional bolt holes for the bellhousing in the block unlike the earlier 2a’s.”
