“I’m selling a Dana 18 and TH350 Transmission out a 1954 Jeep Willys CJ3B project. Both pieces were supposedly rebuilt and installed prior to my purchasing and taking over the project. The Dana 18 has a Warn overdrive, both drive shaft yokes,, new torque convertor. and two crossmembers for mounting. I decided to go with a manual transmission set up and will no longer be needing the Dana 18 or TH350.”

According to an article from JP Magazine, the WAT was sold by Warn in 1969 and intended to slip between a T-18 and a transfer case. The writer of the article only remembered ever seeing one of them.
“The war in overdrive unit shift good and bolts between the T case and the transmission. I am asking 450 but open to offers. Was going to use in a Dodge pickup to get rid of the automatic but my plans have changed.”
I found this ad in the May, 1969, issue of Popular Mechanics.
Brian asked if I recognized this. I didn’t. After a few strokes of the keyboard, I discovered it might be a Ramsey PTO for a Dana 20 (http://www.jeeptech.com/winch/d20pto.html). Is it a Ramsey or something else?

“This is a complete unit meaning T90, D18, overdrive and Koenig pto with winch. As far as I can tell, this is a pretty rare unit to include overdrive and PTO together. I got it for my willys wagon, but you know the story, times are tough. Not sure of internal condition, but looks to be resealed. Was in 60’s cj5 with buick motor. Will not separate. If doesn’t sale, will make it in wagon some day.”

“For Sale 4-speed SM420 transmission with granny 7.04:1 first gear mated via Advanced Adapters (PN# 50-2401) to a Dana 18 transfer case with the large 1.25″ intermediate shaft. This is the ultimate set up for short wheel base Jeeps. I had this drive train in my Willys Jeep and it worked great. Comes complete with shifters, cross member mount, and output yokes. The tranny and T-case were rebuilt a few years back. I have since moved to a longer wheelbase jeep and switched this out for a Dana 300.”

“I pulled this complete from a rolled CJ2A but will fit a CJ2 CJ5 and others. Twin stick Spicer 18 transfer case with Spicer 18H chain drive PTO. T90 transmission, drive shafts for axles, parking brake. Big Foote Bros winch, not a little Ramsey ot Koenig winch and PTO drive shaft. The truck was running when rolled but I can’t confirm anything about condition. Being sold as a complete unit for $500 OBO 818-394-0028.”

“Selling a dana 18 tcase and warn overdrive from my willys. Everything is in great working order. The warn overdrive is 6 spline and shifts cleanly. The dana 18 transfer case has been twin sticked and has the 4″ bore. I can take hi resolution shots of anything you’d like to see in more detail. All three shifters will be included. 600$ obo. I need a few things that I would take in trade. A dana 20 tcase to mate to a 6 spline mainshaft, a metal chop saw, drill press or tubing bender (not pipe).”

Given that the TC was rebuilt, this might be a good value. However, there’s enough dirt on top of the TC that it must have been used for at least a little while.

A brand new adapter will run around $450 (here’s one for $479). I suspect these are hard to find used.

I spent some time earlier to day trying to track down what came before the Spicer 18 transfer case. Unfortunately, I can’t find anything such as a Spicer 12 or a Spicer 3 anywhere. If the Spicer 18 was the Dana Corp’s first try at a transfer case, then it’s entirely reasonable to say they hit a homer with it, as it stayed in the jeep (though ratios and other minor changes were made) from 1941 to 1971, when the jeep started using a center pumpkin and the Dana 20 transfer case.

The price on this CJ-5 has dropped. There's been some good upgrades and the body appears to be in very good shape. I suspect the seller will drop the price even more to sell it.

This jeep's been family owned since 1955. It's a bit rough and that poorly mounted roof doesn't help it's look.
"Original Willys Jeep that needs some TLC. Civilian model with tailgate. Been in my family since 1955 with only 2 owners before that. Have half hard top plus frame and canvas doors for canvas top. Doors have canvas with see through windows on frames now. Less than 5000 miles on engine rebuild. Odometer froze at 25,000 miles but probably only has 30,000 total miles if that.
