Bob and his wife spotted this rare Palomino Mower on Friday at the Pioneer Engineer’s Reunion.

John’s Photos from Vietnam Circa 1964
John took these photos almost fifty years ago when he went to Vietnam between 10/1963-10/1964.
This first photo is from Khe Sahn:
Click on the photo and you’ll see a wagon on the right and, possibly, a CJ-3A on the left.
John calls these elephants the original 4x4s
I think this ‘4×4’ would have been the most practical for getting places quickly.
Updates Mid Wednesday
Ann and I had a ‘date night’ Tuesday night, so I didn’t get anything done.
Early Friday morning I plan to head for Portland where I’ll drop by the MVPA convention. I’ll spend a few hours there and then head north (via Herm’s place if he’s around — still have to call him). I’ll be in Seattle for at least a week. During the first week of August I’ll be dropping by the FC Event in Tacoma.
I’m half done tightening up the book (have dropped about twenty pages) and cleaned up bad transitions, dealt with a few logic problems, and fixed a variety of errors.
4 Hurricane Wheels Kirklin, IN $100
UPDATE: Still Available. These appear to sport Armstrong Desert Dogs, which aren’t the type of dogs with the meaty tread.
“Set of 4 Hurricane wheels 5 on 5 1/2. The tires aren’t any good but the wheels are in pretty good shape. Call or text 765-242-8909.”
Updates later on Sunday
Had a nice Saturday evening with Ann, so no updates in the morning. Some later on Sunday.
No Updates Tonight
No updates tonight.
I will be in Seattle for a week or more at the end of July, beginning of August. I’m pulling Biscuit’s engine and replacing the TH350 tranny for a T-18 (still have to locate that). I’ll also be dropping by the Northwest FC Get Together in Tacoma in early August.
On my way to Seattle, I was hoping to drop by the MVPA’s international convention in Portland (July 25-27th), but now am not sure whether I’ll have the time or not. Anyone going to that?
Just a few updates tonight
The kids leave on WEdnesday, so I’ll save most updates until after they leave. Then, I’ll start into the final updates for the book.
No Updates until Sunday Evening
We are spending the evening with Ann’s family in Monroe and then traveling back to Pasco on Sunday, so no updates until Monday morning. I’ll be out of email reach for most of that time.
1946 CJ-2A/M-38 Sacramento, CA $2500
This is a mix of parts.
“Stock 1946 cj2a with a 1950 m-38 body. Jeep also has a warn overdrive. Jeep ran when parked. This jeep needs to be restored. The only trade I would be interested in would be a old style flat fender jeep pickup. $2500.00. Jack 916-991-5756”
Biscuit Gets a Bath
Just this update for Tuesday. With our ‘blistering’ 95 degree day, I thought it would be a good idea to give Biscuit a bath on Monday. Amazingly, the kids thought so too. Kasia and Colter even helped!
Once we got done washing the jeep, we decided to do a little jeeping.
Just one post for now
I had planned to do some posts, but I decided to sleep instead. So, until I get to the rest of the posts (which might not appear until monday), enjoy this great old ‘jeeping’ video forwarded by Colin.

We made it home after driving 10,043 miles through 27 states. Time to rest. I’ll summarize the trip tomorrow night. Thanks to everyone who helped make it so special!
The Pig Cutting Board
Tom Gallagher loves his CJ-3Bs. He also works with wood (professionally). Last summer he gave Ann and I a small pig cutting board as a marriage present. I use it every day and love it. If you are looking for a nice cutting board, check out one of his. (Not a paid endorsement or anything, but he did just launch a new website so I wanted to give him a plug).
Updates For the Next Couple of Days
Between the Bantam Festival presentations on Friday and Saturday (both at 1pm at or near the History area — I can’t say for sure at the moment) and that fact that we are camping (which makes charging our equipment difficult), there will likely be few updates. I’ll throw up a few old posts though.
We will be camping at Amphitheater C.

Next Stops
Sunday evening we’ll be traveling to Burlington, VT. From there we’ll be going through the NY Mountains to reach Oswego, NY, monday night. Why Oswego? I am hoping to find out more about the two women who did the around-the-world tour in an FC. They were teachers at the University there.
Tuesday night we’ll land in the Buffalo/North Tonawanda area. If I can get a good price, we’ll stay there a week. We’ll be preparing for the Bantam Festival and our trip home.
Photo of Jeep at Specker Motors
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
Marc spotted this reprinted photo on eBay. I tracked Specker Motors to Marquette, MI. You can see more pics here.
No Updates today
Spent the night last night in Connecticut and had a nice time meeting extended family I hadn’t ever met. We’ll likely be staying in southern Mass tonight. Then we’ll wind northward through Mass and into Maine. We’ve been talking about trying to reach Acadia NP. More tonight.
Oh, am behind on emails, so I hope to catch up tonight.
1948 CJ-2A Aumsville, OR **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5500.
This build looks clean, but having the speakers mounted like they are means you’ll have to cover them whenever jeeping. Maybe that part is removable? The hood scoop is unusually shaped.
“1948 willys sb400 chevy 3 spd runs good all new wiring ,gauges ,seats ,stereo ,33 baja claws on weld wheels real head turner $5500.00”
Buffalo News Article
Thanks to Gary, I got connected to the Buffalo News, which picked up my story of bringing a plaque of my great great grandfather Rudolph Wurlitzer to the North Tonanwanda History Museum.
